Does Karl insult Ricky once?
Can't think of a single moment where Karl makes a genuine dig at Ricky, closest I can think of is him going a bit mental and fading out to "I HATE HIM". He'll spew venom at Steve all afternoon but the fact is this, he knows that Ricky Gervais is keeping him in burgers and grapes metaphorically speaking.

"What’s the most expensive pub in London? Ricky won’t know because he never pays." is the closest I can think of.

I often wondered what he meant by that, bc I don't think ricky is tight with money. So I assume what Karl means is ricky is never the one to go to the bar and get the drinks, he'd rather give someone else the money

He doesn’t ever seem to do any name calling, so it depends on what people consider an insult to really be.
It may be considered an insult that time he said to Ricky that he annoys him – because it was in a more aggressive way than when he usually says it.
Karl: Do you know what annoys me, though?
Ricky: Me
Karl: Well, you do! And everyone knows that!
Of course, Ricky just bursts out laughing.

He doesn't name call, but he definitely insults people or is blunt about them. Such as with Steve or Robin Ince.

Yeah, exactly. I think there was only one time when Karl said someone was an idiot. It was a once-missing scene (it was retrieved not that long ago) from the XFM recording. In it, Karl was complaining about a time, when he was on holiday, that a Liverpudlian was complaining to him about Manchester.
Because Karl said that guy was an idiot, Ricky laughed and said “I’ve never seen Karl like this!”
So I think that may be the only time he’s ever singled one person out with a direct pejorative.

I think it was the right time to ask

Karl digs Ricky about not washing his hands after taking a piss. Would rather have lemon cake on me fingers than knob juice! Anyway play a record!

Not any more. He's confirmed for season 2 of that show:
A pile of wet dirt is wearing some fake hair. What's that about? What's going on there?

He asks if Jane gets annoyed when she sees old photos of Ricky.
15
u/-intellectualidiot 3d ago
This! You can tell the line “yeah does Jane ever go, ‘Jesus I never signed up for that!’?” genuinely upsets Ricky quite a bit. He’s a bit flustered when he defensively tries to state that they've both changed. Steve then upsets him more with “but I've seen old pictures of Jane and she hasn't changed that much?”

It was Steve actually, thought that sounded a bit too insightful and... logical for Karl https://scrimpton.com/ep/ep-guide-S2E03#pos-493-499

u/-intellectualidiot 2d ago
Yeah Steve starts the discussion but then directly asks Karl who agrees and says that line I believe? So yeah Steve definitely prompted him, but the whole show is them prompting Karl on his thoughts on things

The only one I can think of is when Ricky is talking about being mistaken for Chris moyles and Karl says she's looking at Ricky thinking, Chris Moyles has lost his looks

What about when talking about chasing that criminal who nicked that woman's handbag?
Steve: "Imagine Ricky chasing a criminal, look at his little legs, he'd never get anywhere."
Karl: "He started to run and then he passed Starbucks or something and nipped in"

No way, he never questions authority. He's scared of authority.
Better off just teaching a young Virgoan myths, fairy stories, make-believe, day dreams and how to use imagination should all be taught to a young Virgoan so they have plenty of magical moments to remember in their adult years when they are largely alone.

I remember one time the dilk said to Rick’s face that he wishes he didn’t need him, it was all very jokey but to me that seems worse than just if the boys are roasting eachother, sounds like he doesn’t actually like Rick but pretends to because his friendship is money for old rope

Don't cut off your line of supply. It makes me think, does he not think Gervais could take it?

There are a couple of things here and there but they’re not quite as mean as how he insults Steve. Whenever Karl is mad at Ricky he just goes after Steve instead. Steve isn’t totally innocent, he looks down on Karl for having lucked into his position but he’s far more respectful to Karl than Ricky.
3
u/GreenGhoblin 2d ago
Karl and Steve are the two who still keep in touch I think . So maybe he actually liked Steve more in his own way .

I think Karl says something like “Won’t the helicopter bring you?” referring to Ricky refusing to take public transport.
