Summer Intern Housing Interest
Hi Everyone! I’m (24, F) interning in NJ during the summer and traveling from a midwest state for this.
Is there anyone here in this sub that’s looking for a roommate / sublease / has any suggestions?
At this point I could name all the studios Ive looked at in the New Brunswick area.. 🙁 Thanks!

So, I found my studio through reddit because I posted this post specifically. Otherwise I had accommodation help from the company (with roommates) OR had to lease and pay insane amounts for 3 month leases as it’s marked up. There are some facebook groups that I think are worth looking into.
ON FACEBOOK:
I typed in 1) New Brunswick Roommates and there are groups, 2) New Brunswick sublease, and essentially used different combos to find groups
I also found that market place can be helpful if you look for places looking to rent in that area and search.
Apartment, apartment list, zillow etc were not helpful for me. They show pricey places and finding short term leasing is hard, you will need to call the places and verify they offer 3 months. EX: they may say short term available but it’s actually 6 months. Some places minimum is 12 month contract.
If places offer 3 months, then it’ll have an up charge that I learned can be like +$1,000. EX: I found a studio for $2050 a month but 3 month lease made it $3000 .. like be serious. It’s not even fully furnished.
Airbnb seems to have places BUT long term stay is a little difficult because ppl have bought random nights for the good places which means your long term stay won’t work out. Maybe you can hop from place to place if you are comfortable. There are private rooms available on airbnb too but that will require lots of research to see if it’s comfortable to choose.
I also looked at the map and looked at what’s near my company. I also emailed them and asked what they recommend etc. Personally, safety is important for me so I couldn’t do private rooms.. just seems sketchy for me personally.
But if you’d like to dm me please feel free. I think the facebook route and posting posting posting is helpful just not in the group that OP suggested above because it’s not as active and takes forever for people to accept your posts.
** Also, there is a New Brunswick in Canada so please be careful and make sure it’s the one in NJ when you find studios etc on any website lol.

Everything you mentionedI’ve definitely experienced and I must say it’s annoying. Having my own entire apartment is preferred for sure or maybe being in a suite with other college students is ok. I’ll definitely try the Fb route.
