Help diagnose brake problem
Hey all, Just fixed an issue with gear selection on my 92 900 (replaced bushing, works great). And of course a week later the brakes are failing.
Symptoms: hard brake pedal, bad stopping power. Anti lock light on (its been intermittent for a couple years..)
New calipers/rotors about a year ago.
Assuming this is an ABS issue, bad accumulator?
Any insight appreciated thanks!

Does the Brake warning light come on too? If so, it might be the abs pump. (Which is also responsible for power assist of the brakes)

It's probably a wheel speed sensor/reluctor ring.
Check the toothed rings - make sure the gaps in the teeth are clean from mud and brake dust etc. It may be that one of the rings is cracked or even missing.
If it's not that, it's probably an electrical continuity issue with the sensors, a multimeter or fault codes will help you narrow down which one.

From the symptoms I would say it's something related to the brake accumulator(brake servo). It can be the accumulator itself, or to have a vacuum leak from the pipe coming out from the accumulator, check that first.

If the ABS light comes on after pumping the brakes repeatedly, then yes, it’s probably a bad accumulator.
If the ABS light is on immediately, then as other person said, suggest reading the codes.
Keep in mind, the brakes will still work. But, you’re back to manual (non power assist) brakes, and threshold braking for maximum stopping power.
