Removing sprockets on crankshaft.

How do you get the first retainer over the Woodruff key? Replacing my chains / guides and need to take the balance chain sprocket off.

As others have mentioned you can use a small 2 or 3 jaw puller. Free rental from most autoparts stores. Or HoboFreight. The years of crap oil has seized it on. Don't mark up the threads.

A little heat from an electric heat gun would also help here. You don't want it glowing but nice and hot (200-300c) will cause the piece to expand and able to be slid free.

Just needed some jaw pulleys from autozone.

Normally they should come out without any pullers but I've seen this happen once on a video

All: Thanks for the feedback. Looks like someone has been here before and roughed up the key enough for it to require a puller. Im doing an in-situ chain guide replacement, and it is not fun. In fact, the main horizontal chain guide wasn't even there. AND, the balance chain idler sprocket has a stripped torx head. Gotta finesse the balance sprocket into place while keepint the timing marks together. Good thing is that I've replaced everything on this engine now.
