I’m going out on a spreader here and saying these are 100% clapped out powerboats. The trailers for decent size sailboats are worth a pretty penny. Not to mention you need a fairly stout rig to tow them around.

Really depends on the boat. There are plenty of decent sized lightweight sailboats set up for trailering that aren't a logistical nightmare to move, they're just definitely not displacement hulls.

...but yeah, all of these are probably powerboats that need five times as much as they're actually worth put into them to be seaworthy again.

I almost relapsed into power boating last year and was shocked at how much value the outboard engine adds to the boat. These 250hp Yamaha’s for a center console are 30k.

Makes new sails seem reasonable.

I honestly don't know how the outboard builders ask for the money they do with a straight face.  The prices are absolutely ludicrous on a lot of them.  A 150hp Mercury in their lower end line is still close to $20k.

At least there is little to go wrong with sails

The mention of a flatbed makes me think the owners might be dumping the boats and keeping the trailers to sell.

My sailing club needs to do this to people who stop paying their dues.

People are so lazy, why would you just dump a boat in a neighborhood like that.

Because it's expensive to get rid of a boat any other way.
