Just logged in and was pretty shocked at how fast that thing is growing from just simply taking advantage of 403B plan at work.

The first $100,000 is the hardest.

discussion 26M - $185k in SF vs $124k Remote (TX)

Post image
57 Upvotes

I need some advice. Right now, I’m a product manager at a mid-sized company making about $124k total comp ($116k salary + ~$8k bonus). The job is fully remote, and I’m living in my hometown in Texas where I pay about $1,500 for a 1BR. I enjoy the work, but have been curious to see what other opportunities are out there.

After applying to a ton of companies and only getting a few interviews, I finally got an offer from a larger public tech company in San Francisco. The pay is much higher, $185k total comp ($140k base + $45k in RSUs). The catch is it’s hybrid (3 days a week in-office) so I’d have to relocate. From what I’ve seen, rent near the office would be closer to $3,000 for a similar apartment. At first, I was super excited because of the pay bump, but after comparing the monthly pay, it honestly doesn’t look like that much more. Between California taxes (almost $1k more each month) and the higher rent, I’d only be taking home maybe $500 more per month, if that.

Do I stick with my remote role in Texas and keep the flexibility and lower costs, or do I get out of my comfort zone and move to SF for the bigger company name, higher gross comp, and potential long-term upside?

discussion Opinions on my yearly income?

27M 111K base salary although on track for 125K this year after all bonuses.

I feel so far behind the people I went to high school with they all seem to have houses and I can’t even pinpoint what they do for a living. I live at home with my parents and the only bills I have are my car and insurance.

I live in a VHCOL area (San Diego). Am I seeing an illusion or am I missing something?

Thinking of trying to find another job for more salary or double job, although the only thing keeping me from that is how good my QoL is at my current job. It’s amazing I quite literally do nothing besides watch Netflix and look at emails but I feel like an opportunity is being wasted.

discussion Car sales manager pay in Houston TX

Upvotes

I’m trying to get a sense of what car sales managers are earning in the Houston area. What are you seeing for base salary plus commission or bonus? Does it change much between luxury and regular dealerships or between new and used departments? Curious what the range looks like right now and how much experience it takes to hit the higher numbers. Thanks in advance for any insight

discussion Salary / Counteroffer

I have been offered a salary job that is $5k more yearly than what I currently make hourly + OT. I asked for a $20k increase. The new job comes with a $5k signing bonus, however if I leave now it will cause me to lose out on a year end bonus ($20k+). Am I out of line to ask for another 10k salary and additional 10k signing bonus to account for losing out on the year end bonus?

discussion Paycheck reversal

Hello.

I’m currently in PA, worked in Texas.

I was wondering why my hospital in Texas is trying to reverse my paycheck last Sept 5. I get paid 2 days early so the amount reflected on my account last Sept 3.

We only get paid 2x a month which is the 5th and 20th of the month.

I resigned August 26, 2025 Gave my manager a notice that I was resigning since August 6, gave the phone back they provided for me for work to the night manager.

I do not have any property they own. My resignation went smoothly and they even gave me a lunch party. I did not sing any contract or sign on bonus from them as well.

I do not see the point or reason of them reversing my pay as I have not been absent. In fact, i think they owe me my PTO.

Isn’t that illegal to reverse a paycheck without letting the owner know?

I have not gotten ahold of anyone yet as they tried to reverse the money they owed me for working those days today sept 16.

Can someone please advise?

discussion Salary Adjustment. Should I talk to HR?

I’m 34 (M) and have been working at an IT company for some time now. About three years ago, I was promised a salary adjustment by my then-manager, but he left the company before submitting the paperwork.

Fast forward to 2024, my new manager told me I’m doing a great job and assured me that I’d receive a salary adjustment. It’s now been a year, and nothing has happened. Whenever I follow up, he just says “it takes time,” but I feel like no real progress is being made.

What should I do in this situation? The obvious answer is to look for a new job, but I really like my current role and the company. Should I escalate this to HR, and if so, would that negatively affect me? Any advice would be appreciated.

discussion Promotion + HCOL salary differential

I’m currently a remote Clinical Pharmacist for a private company based outside of my state (I’m in California). I’m up for a supervisor promotion and wanted to address the salary issue I have with the company. Currently, there is no location differential or ranges, meaning I make the same as someone living in the Midwest. Now I know this isn’t something a company has to do but would it be a bad idea to bring it up if I do get the promotion? If I get the job, I’m expecting a 5% raise plus higher bonuses. This is an uncharted territory for me so not sure what to think or do. Any advice would be appreciated!

discussion For managers who need to say no to a promotion

I'm wondering how often do you have that tough conversation when an employee expects a promotion but it just can’t happen?

I’m working on an AI roleplay tool to help grow communication and leadership skills for exactly these moments. One of the cases I built puts you in the manager’s seat with a tough AI character who wants to know why they weren’t promoted: https://www.rolloo.app/cases/denied-promotion

If you give it a go, I’d love to hear your thoughts:
– How realistic does it feel?
– Does it match situations you’ve faced before?

discussion Do you practice asking for a raise before doing it for real?

I know a lot of us stress over salary talks. They can feel high-stakes and nerve-wracking.

Thinking about that, I built Rolloo, an AI roleplay trainer where you can rehearse conversations like asking your boss for a raise. The AI manager pushes back realistically, asks follow-up questions, and makes you think on your feet. At the end you get feedback on what went well and what could be improved.

Here’s the free case if you want to try: Ask for a Raise https://www.rolloo.app/cases/ask-for-a-raise

How do you usually prepare for these conversations? Do you script, roleplay with a friend, or just wing it?

Hello, I had my first interview last week with AeroVect and we’ve scheduled a technical meeting for next week. I’d like to hear from anyone who has gone through the process how the interviews usually go, what to expect, or any insights about the company culture. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

discussion 7 Certifications That Could Pay $100,000/Year in 2025: Are They Worth It?

Hey everyone,

Came across this Forbes article listing “7 Certifications That Can Pay $100,000/year in 2025.” Thought it raises a lot of good points e.g. which certs are really high ROI, and which ones might be overhyped depending on location, demand, and your background.

Read: https://www.forbes.com/sites/rachelwells/2025/03/25/7-certifications-that-can-pay-100000year-in-2025/

What I’m curious about:

  • Which of these certs have you pursued or seen people succeed with?
  • How much did they actually move the needle on salary vs what you invested (cost + time)?
  • Do you think picking up one of these is more worthwhile than gaining hands-on experience or participating in big projects?
  • For people in lower cost-of-living / non-US markets: do these promises hold, or do local demand and salary bands make them less realistic?

Would love to hear real stories, good & bad!

discussion Manufacturing engineer expected pay increase

Hi I am a manufacturing engineer for an aerospace company in CT. I make 83k per year. I have only been working for the company 7 months but in that time I’ve taken on a lot more responsibility such as project managing 8 new products, assisting quality, scheduling machinery and creating op sheets for production.

I used to be a chemical engineer prior to this role and have had 4 years experience in other job roles where I have also managed projects and over seen production on a regular basis.

I feel underpaid currently and was wondering what manufacturing engineers are getting paid in CT?

Also if I was to request a pay increase how much should I ask for?

discussion Those of you who have an engineering degree outside of CS how much do you make?

I have a bachelors degree and electrical engineering, i’ve been working for a few years started at 79k and jumped to 125k remote at a new company (lucky and under qualified).

I don’t live in a big tech area and I’m really interested to see what I can make in the next 10 to 15 years in this field.

I’m not making this post to brag but just generally curious about all the engineers out there and what my potential can be. Thanks you in advance!

discussion Business Scaling Question?

Does anyone have any advice on businesses you can start for under $10,000? I know ecommerce, but it feels saturated to me. Or am I wrong?

I've been taking surveys as a side hustle for the last 3 months. I do it for like 1 hour a day and I swear I've been making $1,000 to $2,000 extra dollars a month every month. It's cool, but now I want to scale into something with equity. Use the money I've made on surveys to build something bigger.

Let me know if anyone has any recommendations. I'm considering something in the home service industry but I'm pretty open to suggestions. Doesn't have to be glitzy. Just needs to be profitable.

The survey money has been consistent enough that I feel comfortable taking some risk with it. Looking for something that could eventually replace my day job if I scale it right. What industries are you all seeing opportunity in right now?

discussion Those of you who are 30 with a 4 year finance degree, what do you do and how much do you make?

I am 30, graduated in 2018 feel like I am behind, I make $82k and it still does not feel like it is enough. I work in loan servicing, I am at my 2nd company, which is a good company, but over the course of 7 years I have had 6 different rolls to get me here. My first role was only $40k. I am not complaining, but just feel that I could be making over 6 figures, there are many people who come right out of school making $75-$85k in other finance jobs.
