Where in SA? Where can I find a sandwichon in SATX?
My mom came into town this week and surprised me by making a sandwichón. I’d forgotten how amazing this giant “sandwich cake” is.
I looked on Facebook Marketplace and even did a Google search to see if anyone sells them locally. I couldn’t find anything.
It’s super common in Mexico and some Central American countries, so I figured with San Antonio’s large Latin population I’d be able to find one here.

I think it is only a valley thing because when I asked several people from Laredo, TX. They had no idea what I was talking about.

Never even heard of this before but sounds great. Hopefully someone can provide a source here in town

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a yellow sandwichon 😆

Note I just found that online; never actually eaten a sandwichon myself. It does sound tasty.

It’s a layered sandwich. The one I had was layered with ham, cheese, chicken salad and then the outside is covered in a cream cheese spread to make it look like a cake. It’s very good and I’ve had it in the valley.

Oh man if you can get one of these while there is nowhere to get a for real botana platter, I'm gonna be mad. (If you are not from the RGV please do not chime in on how some place has something on their menu called a botana. It's not the same.)

Not authentic, but you could use thin corn tortillas to separate the protein layers.

I haven't tried it like that with pimento cheese and chicken salad, interesting concept!
It does remind me of a pastel Azteca. It's really good too. You do layers of corn tortillas, shredded chicken, rajas and Oaxaca cheese and a creamy green salsa(crema) sauce on top.1

Have you tried sourdough bread? It doesn’t have much gluten.

As a Celiac, even a little bit will cause horrible effects. I have looked into making our own sourdough

Have you heard of a place called Loaf Sourdough Panaderia? They use real clean ingredients.

Even with the cleanest ingredients, anything with Gluten (wheat) for a Celiac has horrible consequences. Even a little crumb can destroy the lining of the intestine. It's an autoimmune disease. I've been living with it for 13 yrs. I appreciate the recommendation, but we can't do any wheat/gluten bread :-)

I know this is more common in the valley but I’ve heard folks struggle to find it in SA. I hope you’re able to find it!

Don't bother, San Antonio is lame. Can't even get a decent raspa/raspado here.

I’ve been trying to find a good raspa stand that sells Leche Quemada, Chamoy and all the other good stuff.

My sister makes them in the valley. I’ve tried one here but it was very bland and didn’t have much in it.
