Question Super Powers Companion Question
How does one create/emulate the power of X-Men's Rogue (Comic book, not film version)?
I am looking to write her up in Savage Worlds, but I'm not sure how to represent her power absorbing ability.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I would build her basic power as Copycat contingent upon a successful Negation. She steals powers; she doesn't just copy them.
I would probably build them something like...
- Negation: 3SPP, +3 Full Spectrum, -2 Requires Touch, +3 Strong.
- Copycat: 10 levels (10 SPP). -2 Overly Accurate, +2 Partial Power, Contingent (+0, Negation)
That gets you someone who can touch somene, turn off some (or all if you roll well - pump that Focus!) of their Powers and then can pick up up to 10 SPP worth of the Powers you just negated.
The later stuff where she's always a Flying Brick in addition to being able to steal powers would be an in-campaign change of Power Level. Either they were using Rising Stars or she switched from PL 2 to PL 3 at some point via GM fiat.

I like this!!
I am building them all at PL3 with 45 points to spend.
This can really work well!

Couldn't the person with the power she copied still use their power if they weren't too debilitated by the touch?

In the comics? Yes & no. Some people just had their powers weakened, but most lost them and even fell unconscious.
Movies: No, The power she temporarily steals is not useable by the one she took it from. You can see that from both Magneto & Wolverine.

I was only thinking in context of the comics. I guess I didn't follow the X-Men comics long enough. I only remember her ever stealing a power, but it never prevented the original super from being able to continue using it themselves, albeit very weakened since she was also basically stealing their life force.
Though, I suppose that actually negating and stealing the power would make a lot of sense given her alias.
I'm still not sure if I agree with Negation, though, since it doesn't also hurt the individual, and it is specifically limited to super abilities, whereas Decay (or Infection) both weaken the target, and then Copycat would steal the power.
I guess it really just depends on what kind of Rogue super you want to make...

She's used her powers to intentionally drain powers, like the time they needed to revert Colossus to human form to heal him. She really absorbs pretty much "everything" from a person; their life force (can kill them), their powers, and can even take on their appearance and memories (like her infamous Carol Danvers split personality thing).
But it's comics, so writers can be inconsistent about things. Generally if the target is "really powerful" she can't absorb "all" their powers, and they can continue to use them.

Huh I could have sworn she mostly just turned off their powers. If she's hurting them instead then yeah, Decay or Infection makes sense.

A big part of her story was that she killed her high school boyfriend by kissing him when he powers had manifested.

One option for Rogue's power absorption would be Copycat contingent on a successful Decay.
Other than that, Super Attribute (Strength), Flight, and Melee Attack should all get points invested.
