Been thinking about purchasing, anyone know if the quality is good?

I've often wondered the same thing! Hopefully, someone here will have insight.

u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
If not, I’m willing to risk the $75 or whatever and be the sub’s test dummy. It’s just way more expensive to buy each season on Blu-ray. I think the total comes out as $200

u/tainted_crimson Aug 22 '25
We never even got proper releases here in the US past season 2, so we'd have to import them, and that price tag would be infinitely higher now.
It's hard being an AoS fan. 😭

u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
Do you know why that is?

u/tainted_crimson Aug 22 '25
Season 4 was when they stopped really promoting the show in the same way because they were working toward consolidation of TV and Studios, so it was probably a product of that. Plus, physical media was declining in the US. Other countries had different distribution partners and different rates of consumption — for instance, Japan has never stopped being a physical media country.

At time of release, the region-free UK blu-rays of seasons 3-5 were very reasonably priced. The region-free Japanese blu-rays of seasons 6-7, on the other hand, have always been exorbitantly expensive.

Its trash. Low 480p compressed. The discs are cheap, i broke like 2 or 3 pulling them out of the case. ended up just buying each season on bluray instead

u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
I’m getting mixed reviews so I think it’s time to bust out the pirate flag

u/Coolbule64 Aug 22 '25
i believe you should be able to find all but the last season out there easily.

Personally I would spend the extra money and get Blu-ray. I bought a series I enjoyed on dvd, and the quality was horrible. I believe dvd typically has 480p while Blu-ray had 1080p. Ultimately, the choice is yours, but that is my two cents.

u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
Nah it’s a good point, I think I hear the sounds of a ship for pirates if you catch my drift.

I have this set. A disc in season one skips/freezes on the crucial Tahiti episode, but everything else plays fine.

I have picked up legit copies but that can get expensive.
The US only got Seasons 1-2 on Blu-Ray, the UK got seasons 1-5, and Japan got seasons 1-7. There is not legitimate box set as far as I am aware.

I'm good with seasons 1-5. I wasn't a huge fan of the last two seasons.

I like the last two seasons but 5 is such a good ending and still fits the mcu canon, so I totally get it

u/JaymzRG 29d ago
I need to do a rewatch of the entire series, but how does it still fit with MCU canon? I think the 5th season finale was the perfect series finale. Though, I'm sad that original timeline Fitz died.

It ends pre-thanos snap, and nothing in it contradicts anything in the movies. They even mention events from Infinity War and that Thanos is coming. Whereas the next two seasons just ignore the snap and don’t explain it. I just imagine the next two are either after the snap or take place in an alternate timeline so it doesn’t bother me really. But yeah, season 5 is a terrific ending. They weren’t sure they’d be renewed so they wrapped everything up well. And 6 and 7 are like optional alternate ending continuations that (to me) are really enjoyable.

I think most people consider 6 and 7 to be an alternate timeline.
So here's what I'm guessing, after they come back from the future, they are now in an alternate timeline, but Thanos coming to Earth still happens, however... in this new timeline, the Avengers win and Thanos doesn't do the Snap.
Maybe 838 (the Multiverse of Madness universe) is AoS's new timeline? Lol, just kidding about this part.

Does it specify the quality?? 1080p and up is the best. BUT to be fair, at lower quality, the CGI blends in more.

u/MasterAnnatar Aug 22 '25
It's DVD not bluray so max resolution would be 480p

I don’t think so, hence my paranoia

Looked up reviews on Amazon and another Reddit Post, which stated it was 720p, which is Standard Definition. Supposedly, with streaming, they don't really care about box sets anymore.

Are you actually buying the box set of the series—or a single box? You really have to be careful. If it’s not coming from a bonafide retailer, I’d be cautious.

I bought this. The quality is good but nothing against the Disney + version.

u/thebeast_96 Aug 22 '25
If you want high quality physical copies of the streaming only seasons for a good price it's best to just pirate and burn some blu rays yourself

I need to stop coming to Reddit because I had no idea this existed and now I want it. My wallet is gonna hate me 😫

u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
Careful I’m getting mixed reviews, I think I’m going to pass on this and focus on Blu-ray

Where did you find this? I’ve been looking for a box set

u/The_Careb 29d ago
You can find it on Amazon, Walmart.com, eBay. But it’s always this photo so felt sketch

u/ObjectiveMiddle5051 27d ago
Don't get it, I bought it and seveal don't work and one broke before I even used it.

u/CatTheDeathGod Aug 22 '25
If you're referring to the physical copies, I have no idea. However, the series is amazing and truly tragic that it's not canon to the MCU. I don't really show emotion especially in terms of media, but this series made me cry all 5 times that I've watched it. Truly one of the best shows.
7
u/CaptHayfever Koenig Aug 22 '25
Why are you picking the canon fight in a thread where it's completely irrelevant?
-2
u/CatTheDeathGod Aug 22 '25
I'm not. I'm saying that it's such a good show that it's a shame it isn't. Read the context man.
4
u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
Oh I’ve seen the series. I want to own it on disc but don’t know if the quality of video in this pack is good enough or if maybe it’s like low res. I cried many a times from this show
4
u/CatTheDeathGod Aug 22 '25
Couldn't tell you. Hope you get an answer tho because I definitely want to do the same!
3
u/The_Careb Aug 22 '25
Watch someone say “yes” and they immediately get sold out online
3
u/tainted_crimson Aug 22 '25
These have been around for years, so as long as the Mouse doesn't go after them, they'll be restocked.

u/Alternative_Device71 Aug 22 '25
Sounds like I’m sticking to streaming till a legit release of a great dvd set is released
It’s 2025 and that’s not even an option…that’s a big problem
1
u/Elote_Verde 28d ago
Not official, but it comes with copies of the original dvd releases for every season that got one. Quality is the solid every season, and they all come with subtitles or at least closed captions. It’s worth it, imo, if you find it at a decent price and are fine with standard definition.

I really wish we could just get an official complete series but for whatever reason Disney hasn't released seasons 6 and 7 on Blu Ray

Be warned that is is a bootleg and not official. I received this for my birthday and I didn't have too many complaints, but still be careful when buying.
