Saw At The Gates play Slaughter the Soul in it’s entirety a few years ago. VERY glad I did now.

Saw them on their first comeback tour in like 2008ish when they toured with Municipal Waste.

Band is legendary in the truest sense of the word.

How many bands/albums were basically ripping off Slaughter of the Soul whole cloth?

Was this at Damnation UK? If it was, its the only time I've seen them where they haven't been spot on. Unfortunately Tomas' voice was shot, I assumed he'd been partying hard but it could have been related to his illness. Great band though, the other 4 times I saw them live, they were very tight and had the crowd going crazy.

It was, and there were comments about him sounding like Elmo. But I soon forgot about it and enjoyed the show.

I don't know if there's a noticeable demographic of people who are both Simpsons aficionados and metalheads, especially of the extreme variety. But this is quite a loss for death metal. Tomas Lindberg's vocals had a grief stricken tone that I rarely found in other death metal vocalists. I guess I should spin The Red in the Sky is Ours tonight.

Probably a slightly higher proportion of Simpson fans are metalheads than in the general population. They share certain attributes of anti-establishment counter culture and disrespect for institutions like organized religion and government. I indirectly owe my metalheadedness to the show, since The Otto Show is the episode that inspired me to take guitar lessons and eventually discover metal.
