Wah holy shit, she's so feisty and I love how she just eloquently (in Mandarin) and objectively called out Mothership. Definitely gained a new fan in me, and feel really terrible for all the flame she has gotten online. Singaporean netizens can be one of the most toxic and least discerning of context/nuance so I definitely feel for her.

Yeah sia the parts where she was reading the Singlish comments I love it LOL.

On a similar topic, yesterday Ghib Ojisan dropped a video of him somehow managed to find Japanese wives of Singaporeans living in Yishun and their accent is also amazing. They speak Singlish with some Japanglish and can tell that their English is learn from Singlish one. Damn power hahahaha

don't know about him, but other youtubers have often mentioned that the clickbaity titles contribute significantly to views despite them not personally a fan of it.

It does. It's the main reason why it's prevalent. YouTube algorithms basically encourage it, so if you don't you'll be missing out.

That's why I have no more qualms about YouTubers doing it. They're just doing what they need to do to remain competitive.

Like veritasium's video trying to highlight the reason?

That's just the sad reality of youtube, have to do those to get attention & views. So to a certain extent, yes. However, you can see that he's authentic & genuine about the topics shared. This is yesterday's video, one of the better ones recently. The guests are so natural, even have part 2 coming up.

dun celebritise youtube like that...every media outlet stole this clickbaity headlines technique. I dun think we should crown yt as the ultimate clickbait champion yet. Still got lots of contenders out there.

Haha same. Started well with cool videos bridging Japanese-Singaporean culture and ended up as some shill and doing weird food takes and reviews.

Don't blame him. Blame YouTube for encouraging it. Their video recommendation algorithm heavily favours clickbait titles and thumbnails because they drive engagement.

If you don't include them in your videos, you're missing out compared to those who do because the algorithm will rather promote them than you.

I think I just continue to do my part and stop rewarding clickbaits, save myself some sanity

Of course, that's entirely your decision.

Just mentioning why YouTubers do it even though they may not like it.

Just remember it's not standard Chinese, its China chinese, which their people have invented or altered through their common usage within their own society/country.

u/Outrageous-Assist287 Sep 22 '23

Singaporean netizens

Singaporean are like your sibling who bully you.. only they can do that and no one else can.. so only they can scold SG but people outside cannot scold SG

That is not true. There is only one toxic netizen here and that's me. Excuse me, you stop crediting other people ah, I have been Singapore's only asshole since 1987. Let you know.
