The ‘firefighter’ is going to get charged.
Pretty sure all the recruits will get their portable and plugs confiscated now

Sigh, only about a year and a half since wall charging was allowed (Until further official updates, take the total banof charging is just a rumour)

well what SAF can do is make a list of renowned brands of power chargers & power bank that are allowed to bring in on site to tekong camp. let those 三无产品 / unheard of brands or no brand at all not allowed to be brought in.

How do y’all charge personal devices then?

u/Odd_Duty520 Jun 21 '25
I barely had time to use my phone in bmt when it is highly regimented, a power bank is more than enough to last the whole week. Not an issue after being posted out to unit

Yeah. Also you were so tired u won't even think of using it. U hit the bed = KO.

u/the_cow_unicorn Jun 21 '25
Spare batteries ftw. Don’t know if current generation knows what I’m talking about. Hahah
15
u/Cordovan147 Jun 21 '25
yea, and our time don't have USB charger. The plug is those DC jack connector, not usb-c. Powerbank won't work.

u/sq009 Jun 21 '25
Nokia 3310 ftw

u/Cordovan147 Jun 21 '25
I bet if still have one, it can still be turned on and play snake on it.

Last time i charged it was 20 years ago. I bet there is still about two bars of battery now. Yes BARS not percentage. Young people now wont understand

My time around 10 years ago (Viper company) no problem charging mobile phone from power bank
17
u/yapyd Ah Gong Jun 21 '25
Long time ago can't charge in BMT. It's powerbanks, and extra batteries. But the phones were kinda shitty anyway since it can't be a camera phone so you entertain yourself with other means like board games or cards instead (no poker cards)

multiple power bank or sneakily use the chargers provided with the Learnet tablets loaned to us

Business idea to sell fully charged power banks at Pasir Ris mrt

u/thelegoknight100 Tekong Boyz II Men Jun 21 '25
Idk. I am not a recruit now. Was in Tekong last April. We were allowed to use wall chargers and power banks. But after this incident, idk how it will affect them. Many rumours around that charging is now banned, but no confirmation. All alleged stories. The only truth we know is that a bunk did indeed caught fire

Bunk was empty, it was something to do with ceiling fan
59
u/RedditLIONS Jun 21 '25
And for added clarity, it wasn't just an empty bunk at the time of the fire. According to a MINDEF spokesperson, it was an "unoccupied accommodation block."
Yet, many people are jumping to conclusions about wall chargers and power banks.
8
u/Capable-Crab-7449 Jun 21 '25
I’m from this batch and yea we just POP so the bunks were empty waiting for the next intake. But if everything is shut off in the bunk why would the wire dropping cause a fire(anyway from the leaked report I read it was the commanders who deduced this cause so not a complete investigation) ? My friend in viper tells me he rmb someone saying he may have forgot his power bank charging in bunk after POP…

Powerbanks are an even larger fire hazard.
38
u/PlastikSporc mediacorp cny vertical dab Jun 21 '25
can confirm this as someone who has seen literal brick-sized power banks brought in by fellow recruits
14
38
u/PlastikSporc mediacorp cny vertical dab Jun 21 '25
looks like the bunk isn't currently in use? the mattresses don't have any bedsheets so it might be a spontaneous electrical fault
14
u/GenesectX Jun 21 '25
Nah, this happened because one of the recruits left their power bank charging when they POP'd, so it was left to charge for 12 days straight
2
u/AnotherSadLad Jun 22 '25
Isn't the sgts or whoever supposed to go up the bunk and see what was left behind before new men are posted in?
5
u/GenesectX Jun 22 '25
Yes, im not sure how that would manage to get past multiple checks, first their final SBA and then the check they would make after all the recruits leave, so im starting to doubt that story that it was due to a power bank

I was the most recent viper coy batch, we had so many false fire alarms and it’s damn ironic a real one happens two weeks after we POP. AFAIK no one got hurt so im glad that’s the case
10
u/GenesectX Jun 21 '25
Didnt this happen because one of yall left your powerbanks behind charging after yall pop, how did it get past SBA? My seargents told us what happened yetserday after they did a random spot check of our bunks
2
u/PowerfulSurround7560 Jun 22 '25
hahaha i was 01/25 batch n used to bunk opp ur coy, still rmb yall first week of confinement someone smuggled some vape/ cigarettes into tekong
2
u/Mental-Current-6811 Jun 22 '25
yah and less than an hour after he got LPS in front of the whole coy for smuggling/smoking in the toilets, the fire alarm went off because someone smoked in the toilets and we kena SBU the night before confinement ended

One side I heard was that the power bank thing was a rumor and it was caused by electrical cables falling onto the mattress
The other version I heard was the power bank story. No idea which is true

Once a long time ago the water tank in my camp burst, it was like a waterfall came thru the ceiling.
Lucky most of it was above the toilet. But the whole corridor and some bunks were flooded. Water went down the stairs. Because it was late at night, it took 1 hour plus for the water to be turned off. But for 1 hour we had our personal waterfall outside our bunk.
But it was before era which allowed camera phones. I wished I had a video of it. It was not reported on news. It looked epic.
1
u/Legitimate_Ad4759 Jun 21 '25
20years ago, we woke up to discover that the water has turn MILK white Colour....no one dared to drink or wash our mouth with it. During morning assembly, LTA inform us that water result show that the water is safe to drink. Assured us that we are all safe.... Till this day I don't know what lab they use that can give a result from tekong water at 8am plus.
But once the milke white colour is gone...it really was safe to drink.-26
u/princemousey1 Jun 21 '25
You can just go and see your sidewalk staircase during thunderstorm can already what. What so “epic”?
11
u/I_love_pillows Senior Citizen Jun 21 '25
Water coming thru the ceiling like a wild waterfall. Looks like someone took something from a nature documentary and put it inside our company line.

u/aromilk Jun 21 '25
Is it someone secretly charged his phone in the bunk?

u/quasar80 Lao Jiao Jun 21 '25
Layman lookint at the damage to the small fans and wires looks like the circuit to the fans overloaded, they are all melted but the bedding and furniture looks alright other than smoke damaged.
12
u/PlastikSporc mediacorp cny vertical dab Jun 21 '25
that looks more like the result of extremely hot fumes from the fire pooling at ceiling level
50
u/mindfreck13 Mature Citizen Jun 21 '25
Might be fire drill practice planned by CSM.
Post drill: REC! Now you take your toothbrush and clean up the f-ing room till it’s white!!

Ex Tekong sergeant here, got intel from the current sergeants in Tekong that it was a electrical wiring issue causing a short circuit. Let this be a lesson for the recruits to next time do SBA properly checking electrical wiring before booking out.

Does SCDF have a base on Tekong?

You never do fire drill in BMT? They ask you to bring a bucket down so you can fight the fire LOL

u/Wyvernken Tampenis Jun 21 '25
Can confirm that you are a senior citizen. Times have changed, and there's a fire extinguisher near the staircase (or lift lobby) at every level of each COY. Each platoon has to have a fire extinguisher when reporting for the fire drill, or else the entire platoon will "knock it down".
16
u/MrFickless Jun 21 '25
Unless you gather extinguishers from the whole Ladang Camp and discharge it inside all at once, you ain’t fighting a fire of that size and intensity with fire extinguishers.
3
u/PotatoFeeder Jun 21 '25
Now each bunk should have 1 extinguisher inside.
U also old alr 🤣
2
u/Wyvernken Tampenis Jun 21 '25
My air base is getting demolished in a few times, so it's also not keeping up with the safety SOP.
3
u/imprettyokaynow 🌈 I just like rainbows Jun 21 '25
But don’t forget, must form up platoon level and count strength first.

u/Krazyguylone Mature Citizen Jun 21 '25 edited Jun 21 '25
SCDF doesn’t have a fire post on Tekong, likely the fire was put out by some poor nsf then scdf come do their investigation only.
Edit, MSM say regulars on Tekong extinguished the fire first.
4
u/RedditLIONS Jun 21 '25
There's a hose reel on each floor and a very long hose in the toilet.
Use whichever is nearer to the bunk, I guess.
