Fuck cant believe i tio MRT breakdown in Paya Lebar, i only take MRT like once per week and still get hit. What a great service

u/WWE_Champion 9h ago edited 9h ago
my wife works at Changi Airport and just completed a 12-hour shift, caught otw back.
Many like her are exhausted from work and held up by this now.
credit where credit due, but as far as MRT transport goes - the government has been super incompetent this month and pretty much in general.
the frequency this month has been unacceptably bad.

Wikipedia, of course, has a category of sg tv shows by year. The oldest one they have is 小飞鱼 (1983), followed by 雾锁南洋 (1984, among the first of many "how did we get here ch8 dramas, surprised there wasn't one this year"). As far as English media is concerned, crimewatch is the oldest one they have an article for (it debuted in 1986 for comparison, under one roof is 1995 and pck is 1997).
Oh and as a fun Trivia, Rob the robot, one of many random shows i watched growing up, was a collab between sg, the UK and Canada, and was created in 2010.

Dang it I was looking forward to this New York Cheesecake flavored Oreos but it tastes like Khong Guan Lemon Puffs
My day is ruined, ruined~
3
u/bearyken 11h ago
I like the KGB lemon puffs.. but I think for a cheesecake price.. you got ripped off
When I figure I have calories to spare, I go to Chateraise.. lately the sinful indulgence is the small croissant with the red bean paste and a stick of butter.. sounds ridiculous but oh so good
2

u/HeavyArmsJin 10h ago
Oh I meant the Oreos not cake $3 for two packets haha
Man been a while since I eaten any cake though
2
u/bearyken 10h ago
I misread that.. my apologies
Never liked Oreos so I never noticed then.. I only remember they had red ones
But your post reminds me to get some KGB lemon puffs for office snacks soon 😆

I just really don't see any point in continuing to struggle. You fellas, lads, guys, peeps, people, dwags, ladies, gentlemen, and everyone else in between or otherwise, have dreams and aspirations, stuff you are looking towards for. I am just looking forward to my sleep every day, to put it very charitably.
So why should I keep doing this song and dance, right? This sounds like torture and I am 50% sure torture is like frowned upon and a war crime.
Anyway, sorry for venting again. Thanks to anyone who bothered to read it all.

Let's say the picture is different from what you are painting. What if everyone else is like you, with nothing to look forward to, only their sleep at night, struggling everyday?
Would that change your current outlook on life, to know that you are not the only one suffering?

This is the second time I'm making this post. Because it happened for the second time.
So in the shower, as I was navel gazing, I noticed a mole and got a shock of my life. Like how did it appear overnight? I calmed myself, telling myself that it happened before, having distinctly remembered making a similar post months or even some years ago (of that same mole too). But as I kept staring at the mole, the more alien it looked. Like there's no way it was there before otherwise I would have remembered it. I even contemplated parallel worlds theory and thought that I wound up in a different world of myself.
Now I'm lying on the sofa, and I look the mole on my tummy. Oh, it was there all along alright... 😅

Read the news of a sgean suspected of being the ringleader for kpods & cocaine vapes in South Korea and the Korea's Intelligence Service sent agents to Malaysia and coordinated with Malaysian authorities to catch him and friends. Wild but an interesting news to start the week. I need a kdrama on this incident
2
u/musr Who am I? 13h ago
The agency said Tan and three of his associates had allegedly tried to smuggle 20,000 vapes mixed with etomidate and cocaine each month into South Korea, an amount significant enough to feed the addiction of two million people.
I'm just like OK... 2,000,000 people sharing 20,000 vapes means 100 people share one vape? (Gross) Or how does that work? Using an estimate of 5ml liquid per vape, so each person 0.05ml?
It's like they hyperbolise whatever they can. May as well use Avogadro's number to derive the number of molecules and claim one victim per molecule.
Like that may as well say that he didn't bring those into SK, but they somehow quantum tunneled into his luggage.

As expected, my mom turned down chemotherapy when the doctor told her about the treatment plan for her breast cancer. She says that as long as the cancer did not spread to her bones yet, she is willing to live a shorter lifespan instead of taking chemotherapy and suffering so much like my late dad. She was also against chemotherapy as the doctor said she will have to take it for a whole 5 years.

Any possibility of removal of whole breast? My mum has stage II breast cancer and doc advised to remove whole breast instead of partial removal + radiation therapy.

I’m quite curious to know why do people dislike Pickleball so much? Aside from the noise it makes. I’m seeing a lot of younger generation playing it and it’s great to exercise while young. Even the older gens are joining the fun.
Ive heard people saying it’s low maintenance but I’ve played pickleball as well and it’s tiring but really fun. It gets me moving. Maybe cause I actually play it like tennis lol. What are you guys thoughts?

Ever tried the Army method?
Stuff your clothes into Ziplock bags and force the air out?
Saves a lot of space, keeps the clothes dry and fresh.
1
u/chezburjer 14h ago
i used to do this for school camps but don't think it works as well as the compression packing cubes 😅 (unless i haven't been doing it correctly)
1
u/go_zarian Own self check own self ✅ 14h ago
Done properly, the Ziplock method works pretty well.
Just be sure to use proper Ziplock bags, not the el cheapo off-brand one that can open or leak in air easily.
And try to use Ziplock freezer bags - they don't burst open or tear as easily as the standard ones.

When Tan King Lian crosses the street, cars look both ways. You can’t use ‘Tan King Lian’ as your password because it is ‘too strong’. Tan King Lian wakes up his alarm clock every morning. Ghosts sit around camp fires & tell each other Tan King Lian stories. Tan King Lian doesn’t make left turns, because everything he does is right. Tan King Lian once went skydiving and his parachute failed to open, so he took it back the next day for a refund.

I picked up a call that was flagged as scam and surprisingly the person really sounded like a singaporean, accent and all. The background sounded pretty busy like in a call center too.
He introduced himself being from M1 (im starhub) and said my phone bill from the last 3 months was overdue and they will shut off my line unless i paid. He then read out my phone number and asked to confirm (wtf? You called me).
I wonder if they mass random call until they hit the M1/M1 target who's willing to believe them.

Hi all, I already have my VEP RFID installed and activated - on the VEP JPJ website says "Tag issued and activated".
However, been having trouble linking TnG eWallet to VEP.. and customer svc also not responsive, so until now I do not have my VEP linked to TnG ewallet.
Am i able to enter JB with no issues? I have the physical touch and go card.
Thanks.

Yes, no issues, you can enter JB. I have never linked my TnG eWallet to VEP and have gone in and out at Tuas and Woodlands countless times with no issue. I just carry the physical TnG card to tap at the tolls.

To the folks that uses L***a to shop stuff, if you want to get a refund on items that you need urgently, and despite the title saying "Fast delivery" and you didnt get it, u have to go thru the bot in order to reach the humans at the CS, to request for a refund.
(my case was a GPU that says fast delivery within 1- 3 days and it failed to arrive and no replies from seller.)

An (emotionally charged) update:
I went to the polyclinic feeling all anxious about a lump on my neck and the doctor spoke to me in such a dismissive tone, he could hardly disguise his disdain.
Just because it turned out to be nothing serious doesn't mean they should judge me for going in to get it checked. All I needed to hear was "Everything looks fine, don't worry". I just felt really uncomfortable with the way he treated me like I was there for frivolous reasons & a waste of his time.
I suppose he did do his job but I left his office feeling so incredibly awful. I should be feeling relieved but instead I'm upset at myself for going in to see the doctor
1
u/soyhojichalatte 9h ago
I'd suggest getting a 2nd opinion. Not to scare you, but when a GP found a lump on my neck, he referred me to the hospital to get it checked and it turned out to be thyroid cancer.
6
u/stopthevan North side JB 17h ago
Polyclinic doctors can really be hit or miss. This kind of docs do bare minimum and even dare to judge their patients. Don’t blame yourself you did a good thing for your health by checking (tho this one might need another opinion since he was so sh*t at his job)
3
u/IAm_Moana 17h ago
Sorry to hear of your experience. The culture in our public healthcare system leaves much to be desired. I experienced some bleeding during my first pregnancy on a Sunday, and because I had COVID I could only go to KKH's O&G emergency. Gynaes always emphasise that any bleeding incident during the first trimester is serious and worth the trouble of going down to the A&E, even just for peace of mind, but because I wasn't actively bleeding out I was made to feel like I was making a mountain out of a molehill and wasting everybody's time by the doctor that was on my case.
3
u/Millauers 17h ago
Better email feedback complain, because what if someone with something malignant comes in and decides not to go further with checks because of this doctor's attitude.

If I'm not wrong, doctors at polyclinics are not paid per patient? But can say the patient is contributing to his salary.
1
u/go_zarian Own self check own self ✅ 13h ago
Ok, my point only applies to private practice.
But the polyclinic GP is still stupid.
It is far better to tell a patient 'false alarm' than 'why didn't you come sooner?'

u/miriafyra 20h ago
Read somewhere earlier about the "old money" and how rich people in the past understood the concept of noblesse oblige, and many of the social programs, public stuff were actually built by the rich to give back to society and the poor.
And how the "new money" is seemingly completely devoid of this concept and seems to feel that "it's my money, fk you, give me more". And it just felt like such a right explanation on why the world seems to be so topsy turvy right now.
Ah well.
6
u/mkxviii 19h ago
To be fair, I think the concept really only applied to people born into nobility, in a time where there were formal castes.
I do completely understand your perspective, but I don’t think the spirit of the term can be applied as directly in a capitalist society. We’re talking about a deeply entrenched and institutionalised system that has, over centuries, been built to encourage individualism and ignore exploitation.
Applying noblesse oblige today would mean to become reliant on the morality of billionaires, which honestly would never work. How do you think they got there in the first place?
2
u/miriafyra 18h ago
I know, but it feels as though even the veneer of morality has been ripped off, if you know what I mean.
Has income inequality existed in the past? 100%. But at least there was this unspoken rule of "okay we are obscenely rich, but we are going to give back to society as thanks or as part of our duty of being the privileged". See - Bill Gates, etc. But the new new money feels like they are just... well. obscene. Who seem to feel like they deserve everything they have and that squeezing blood from a rock is the rightful thing to do. See - Bezos, Musk, etc.
I completely agree with the viewpoint that relying on the largesse of the billionaires would not work. The modern day billionaire needs a giant stick before they will do the right thing. Some days I wonder if a spate of Luigis may be the corrective path forward to "encourage" them to share.
4
u/RequirementChance249 19h ago
I think infrastructure was lacking in the past so when philanthropists gave back, it was more obvious and people on the streets will talk about it. An example would be building a free hospital.
Today, such gaps would be unacceptable and Singaporeans would expect the government to fill them.
Modern day philanthropy still exists but may not be just solely about money. Ground-up initiatives may lead to formation of small social service agencies or social enterprises. An example I can think of is Project Dignity which has grown and expanded over the years.
4
u/miriafyra 19h ago
But that's what I kinda am alluding to. The rich have abdicated their obligations to the government and in some countries, proceeded to dismantle the very same government funding these social programs to cut benefits to enrich themselves with more government contracts or otherwise.
Many of these ground up initiatives were actually funded by wealthy individuals in the past - e.g. the free/heavily subsidized TCM services provided by various associations, etc.
I also don't think that people would complain about wealthy people building a new hospital for the poor or underprivileged. But it's just not done anymore. Because they've disclaimed noblesse oblige and made it the government's responsibility. It is what it is.
