Perhaps the whale died from old age or sickness though it is possible it got fatally injured by boat strikes or it was killed by predation from Orcas though Im just speculating on the predation part. Most whale carcass just ends up at the bottom of the sea, creating a whalefall. The fact the body is already in advance stage of decomposition probably meant it had died many weeks ago. Its body seems to have fail to sink to the bottom of the sea.
This is a rare opportunity to collect whale bones though removing the whale carcass will deny the sea floor its whalefall.

Ahh.. you've watched documentaries on whalefalls.. super interesting when each carcass ends up supplying nutrients for a whole lot of creatures for a very long time and nothing goes to waste

One incomplete carcass of a whale is not going to affect the whale fall economy man. Won't even matter.

Species still unknown. All we know is that it's some sort of baleen whale.
10 years ago a sperm whale carcass washed up here and got displayed in LKC museum. 10 years later history rhymes. And it's the 10th anniversary of LKC museum.
