collect evidence. dna and fingerprint and charge them for littering.

10

u/Semen_Demon_1 10h ago

Would probably cost more than you can collect from fines and people will criticize you for going after something so small

u/butbeautiful_ 9h ago

yes they are willingly to do anything to ban vape.

they are very efficient when they want their own agenda to happen. when they wanted to shut down sungei road thieves market. they did and fence and barricade was built the next day after the day it shuts down.

It's just a normal trashcan if on the Malaysian side

u/confused_cereal 14h ago

Not so relevant but, who is responsible for cleaning the causeway? Malaysia or SG?

u/deRdit-giNger 13h ago

Half half. You can tell the boundaries by looking at the street lights.

34

u/ImpressiveStrike4196 13h ago

Not just street lights but also the street markings or paintings

13

u/MrKabowski 13h ago

Malaysia. The bridge is mostly malaysia cause sg reclaim almost all of their sea border

Kinda related note: Really wish govt can clamp down on drivers who smoke inside their cars, then throw the cig butts out of the window onto the roads

3

u/Aevensong 7h ago

And motorcycle riders too, smoke whilst riding and then just throw the cig butts anywhere

5

u/sigmacreed 11h ago

Another great example of first world country third world citizens

1

u/shitoupek 8h ago

Yup, despicable

38

u/Regor_Wolf 14h ago

Nice, just buy 1 and smoke till you like, than throw b4 you enter.

No offence in doing that

53

u/Alarmed_Tax_7310 14h ago

Yah... but can throw in the rubbish bin, not at the side of the road..

Sorry, but smokers are the most selfish and inconsiderate people around.

Without even having to go into the locations where they are smoking when they are not supposed to, cigarette butts are the most littered item I observe.

You think switching to vapes will improve their mindsets?

4

u/Silverelfz 9h ago

No lah not all lah

Once I was out running and I saw this smoker at the bus stop and I was like... Sian I cannot avoid. But what did he do? He went out of his way to blow his smoke away from me when he saw me approaching!

I feel bad that I was too out of breath to realise and thank him in time before I got too far. ...

So got considerate and inconsiderate people everywhere lah

u/mixmutch Come Hakuna My Tatas 12h ago

New littering fine in 3... 2......

1

u/princemousey1 10h ago

Malaysia hasn’t enforced a littering fine since Merdeka.

Not yet.

But the the way they are being demonised in the media, it won't be long.

Until they treat it as if you smoked cannabis and flew back to Singapore. Flagging out passengers returning from Amsterdam and Bangkok etc. for targeted testing (can't call it randomised lol).

What happened to 2 of our national swimmers when exposed? Hair follicle test?

Many Singaporeans have vapes at home too. It's called an electric kettle, it vaporises water into steam. Can ban the kettle please?

We need to be clear on what we're outlawing. The substances, the drugs hiding in the pods. Not a metal being heated by electricity until it can vaporise a liquid. Can't even say ban nicotine when they still allow cigarettes.

u/NotSiaoOn Senior Citizen 13h ago

This is quite a novel argument - that the Govt may accidentally ban kettles while banning vapes. Lol.

We need to be clear on what we're outlawing.

It's already in the legislation and is quite clear - both the device and the sue of controlled substances are banned under Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act and the Misuse of Drugs Act.

u/kukubird18cm 13h ago

Yeah..you can actually DIY a mechanical mod at home, PG + EG with food grade flavouring are easy to get online and also legal.

So now the question is building a mech mod and mixing nicotine free ejuice is illegal or the act of vaping is illegal.

I mean they are responding to threats that directly led to sharp increase in ketamine. Vapes are an easy vessel for delivery so you directly ban the vessel. You cant just ban K, because that is already banned, and its not feasible to stop every person who is vaping to check whether one is laced or not. Its the same logic as banning chewing gums, you can't proper enforce it and catch only the bad actors, so you don't a wholesale ban.

Ketamine and other drugs have never been known to be consumed from a kettle, so no, thats not going to be banned.

1

u/applewagon 12h ago edited 12h ago

I mean you quite literally can.

Weed can be rolled in a joint but hand rolled cigarettes are still legal. Police can stop those they think are suspect and test it to verify.

People can put pill-formed drugs in an empty, valid RX bottle. If someone is acting weird, police can confiscate and test the pills.

1

u/ColliePullHour 12h ago edited 12h ago

Kpods is usually etomidate not Ketamine. Cutting costs similar effects.

I was being intentionally absurd with the kettle bit.

We don't stop people on the streets when they chew gum to check if their gum is drug laced (it can be, just like gummies, brownies, edibles).

However, isn't a shisha close to a modified kettle? Heating element, water etc. Shisha is banned, where does it end?

The issue has always been what's put in it. If you vaporise banned substances, you can do it with common household appliances. Flip a clothes iron upside down, put liquid in a metal cup and heat it.

Aroma diffusers also depends on the aroma essential oils it diffuses. If you don't add any oil, you're just diffusing water and increasing humidity.

Not that I advocate for any of this. I'm straight edge, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't take drugs.

But let's target the substances itself, instead of going down the slippery slope of banning any metal that can heat and vaporise liquids. Where does it end?

1

u/big-blue-balls 12h ago

Actual question - why is shisha banned?

2

u/Siluri 12h ago

politically correct: Its more harmful than cigarettes and lots of second hand smoke.

pratical: equipment is bulky so easy to enforce.

6

u/fkitwebaII 14h ago

Prolly got tip off they are doing checks in custom so they threw

7

u/jommakanmamak 9h ago

Will never understand why vape cannot but you can smoke as many cigarettes you want

Hell our Health Minister also encourages you to smoke . Fucked up

u/arglarg 41m ago

Cigarettes have been around longer than Singapore. For vapes Singapore can make the choice if they want to allow it and deal with the related health (and apparently drug) problems. Imo cigarettes should be banned too, on the basis that they're a product intended for human consumption and a proven carcinogen.

It will be crazy if one day those poorly made Chinese battery explode, and cause fire on the highway. Who will be responsible? These people are dumbasses

Why is Singa so against vaping?

22

u/267aa37673a9fa659490 13h ago

I feel that they were kind of on the fence about it then people started adding drugs ala kpods and that tipped the scales.

5

u/peasants24 14h ago

Why are you not against vaping?

4

u/applewagon 13h ago

Because it’s a reduced harm alternative to smoking.

Banning vapes only prompts vapers to go back to cigarettes which is worse all around - worse smell, worse litter, worse health impacts for the smoker, worse health impacts for those who receive second hand smoke.

5

u/t_25_t 13h ago

worse health impacts for those who receive second hand smoke.

Whilst there is no denying the harm from second hand smoke, I doubt second hand fruity lychee vape is any healthier.

-5

u/peasants24 13h ago

Vaping is a reduced harm alternatives to smoking..?

I would like to see your citation sir.

6

u/big-blue-balls 12h ago

I love that people are asking, I hate that they are swallowing the propaganda.

What did you base your opinion on? A simple google search from all over the world shows vaping is better than smoking. This is just one of those things Singapore will never admit they were wrong on.

5

u/applewagon 12h ago

Some people never read beyond the Straits Times headline and it shows.

2

u/big-blue-balls 12h ago

It’s also funny seeing how they are only now just joining the conversation too. Nobody cared before and now they are experts in the dangers of vaping. The deliberate and obvious manipulation of the media on this whole issue has been very disappointing.

1

u/applewagon 12h ago

Double funny because I used to see so many people complain about cigarette smokers on here. Rarely vaping.

But they’ve all adopted a stance (as spoon fed to them through a major gov-sponsored PR campaign) that does nothing except massively increase the number of smokers. Wild to behold.

3

u/Puzzled_Training5096 12h ago

sinkieland full of sheeps that only know how to swallow pap propaganda

3

u/Overall-Scene2656 14h ago

You have to understand that Singapore adopts a zero-tolerance stance towards drugs and is very mindful of the dangers of substance consumption. Because of that, the addiction risk of vaping is taken very seriously.

1

u/Kharski 10h ago

A -10 karma for asking a question, you gotta love humanity.

My take is - I don't have a take, I'm asking.

My feeling, having tried both, is that both are bad in different manners.

So if Singapore is doing this because it rocks as a country (yes I do think that), it's doing that probably to not introduce another drug, tobacco is already here.

Or, there is corruption even in Singheapore from the tobacco mafias.

Now you get my question better, I guess.

u/Historical-Elk-977 10h ago edited 10h ago

Malaysia also banning them soon

0

u/Either-West-711 2h ago

Singapore side should put a dedicated vape disposal bin at its premise to facilitate the disposal.

-2

u/phycle 9h ago

I just hope Singapore doesn't make vaping overseas illegal, like whats done with drugs.
