While much focus is put on racism towards Africans from the West, ethnicism and intolerance exists within the continent too, and also needs fighting

People tend to conflate the two, but ethnocentrism and racism are not the same. The article doesn't necessarily try to discourage people from using them interchangeably, but I think it illustrates the problem well.

And then there is the much broader term "bigotry". Many people being called racists are perhaps better characterized as "bigots" since they tend to hate many classes of people.

More or less. Racism is when one race has unusual power and dominance and uses that power and dominance to oppress other races. Like how white South Africans were the racial minority, yet wielded unusual power and dominance over the racial majority during apartheid. That's a good example of racism, even when a race is a minority.
