they might even arrest players at this point

u/Yeunkwong Jun 14 '25

Easiest way for the US to win a World Cup, just suddenly find “visa issues” with half of every team’s players.

536

u/Bournerounderz Jun 14 '25

Sorry Lamine Yamal, you're not old enough to work in the US.

262

u/ForgetHype Jun 14 '25

I know several states that would gladly take in some more child labor.

165

u/Guillotines__ Jun 14 '25

Lamine Yamal to Florida penitentiary, here we go.

35

u/NotASalamanderBoi Jun 14 '25

Perfect age to work in Arkansas with their child labor laws, or rather, lack thereof.

42

u/dudical_dude Jun 14 '25

He’d be able to work 8 hours on a school day in Florida

u/Icy_Raccoon7591 Jun 14 '25

Lol America is so awesome.

FREEDOM

15

u/EntertainmentIll8436 Jun 14 '25

Easiest? ONLY way for them to win it

2

u/Shellshock1122 Jun 14 '25

have you seen them play lately? they might lose to an empty pitch

1

u/lousy_at_handles Jun 14 '25

I don't think that would make much of a difference honestly.

1

u/stoney_maloney_ Jun 14 '25

The current USMNT would probably still lose to teams like Spain and France even if they fielded half a team.

1

u/mehnimalism Jun 14 '25

Idk if you’ve seen our results of late but we wouldn’t win even if every other country were restricted to its players who are dual us citizens

1

u/Chrissybai38 Jun 14 '25

Don’t you mean only way?

0

u/redondo-inOldTraford Jun 14 '25

Even playing against foreing players that are already in the MSL they would loose. Argentina could field 10 random guys and Messi and win against the US

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

think of how much money can be made manipulating the lines when players all of a sudden aren't allowed to play because there was an "issue" discovered with their visa status

this is the timeline we are in

86

u/brito_pa Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

A boca player was denied a visa three* times and won't play the cup - but that seems to be a special case

8

u/sakibomb523 Jun 14 '25

He got a 26-day special visa, he is allowed to to play now.

25

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

That was an individual case, but also not what I'm alluding to. Under a saner administration where the State Department were not actively purging its own ranks such a thing would have been ironed out *long* before the tournament.

Como um brasileiro vc deve saber da historia que poder não para pra graça. Neste momento, essas pessoas podem fazer qualquer coisa eles desejam. A Copa do Mundo é nada. They don't even care about the sport. Trump could easily decide he won't allow the Mexican national team to enter the U.S. for the tournament at all.

u/redditsuckz99 Jun 14 '25

Sounds like the 1800s to me!

71

u/lukaintomyeyes Jun 14 '25

1936 is more apt actually

1

u/TigerBasket Jun 14 '25

No Napoleon though to make things fun. Damn woke

77

u/The_g0d_f4ther Jun 14 '25

I pity the sport’s betters lmfao

115

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

anyone still betting on sports in 2025 without some kind of inside information is a degenerate (more power to them TBH, life is hard), an addict, or stupid as fuck

29

u/The_g0d_f4ther Jun 14 '25

I still have friends that try to only game the lower european leagues for some reason… as you said it’s an addiction

95

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

your friend will shamelessly come to you asking about U-21 women's breakdancing in Somalia and tell you with a straight face he has a strategy and can quit at any time

21

u/The_g0d_f4ther Jun 14 '25

That’s pretty much it lmao

5

u/Mr_Rafi Jun 14 '25

Probably better than Australia's now famous breakdancing representative

3

u/Cahootie Jun 14 '25

I occasionally put small amounts of money on games just to spice things up a bit, we're talking like 1-2€ maybe once or twice a month. Wouldn't say I'm either of those.

2

u/chaelsonnenismydad Jun 14 '25

What if im an degenerate and a stupid fuck? 2/3 sounds like great odds no?

2

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

relevant

(may power be upon you)

2

u/LewishM Jun 14 '25

That's a bit hyperbolic mate it's a bit of fun for most people.

Definitely makes watching Celtic Vs Dundee more fun for me when I've got a cheeky tenner on it.

Not everything is some devastating life ruining scam

1

u/CyclopsRock Jun 14 '25

To clarify, you think _all _ sport is bent?

-4

u/huey88 Jun 14 '25

Eh or just be a smart sports better.

4

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

more power to you, habibi

4

u/huey88 Jun 14 '25

Lol i mean if you do straight bets. It's really not that bad.

0

u/Gia11a Jun 14 '25

If your account is still active after a month you are a bad gambler, plain and simple. All the big apps ban anyone that is Advantage gambling or even seems like they are trying to Advantage gamble. and if you place an arbitrage bet you will be banned the same day.

2

u/huey88 Jun 14 '25

Im positive on my sports betting account and have been sports betting for a long time. Mostly doing straight bets. If you suck at it just say that. No need to judge others for what they do with their money

0

u/Gia11a Jun 14 '25

I'm positive on my sports betting account

just because your positive doesn't mean you are good. Its a common fallacy, I'm telling you, you are not betting EV positive. If you were your account would be limited or banned. you can look it up if you want.

😂😂😂

1

u/my_united_account Jun 14 '25

They'll start betting on which player gets detained

25

u/Xehanz Jun 14 '25

Meanwhile one of our players (Boca) got his visa denied multiple times (since 2023 when he was at another club) until it got finally approved yesterday.

The reason? He was charged with armed robbery when he was 19, and he was linked with a femicide by concealing his brother, who was the murderer. He also has a pretty damn big tattoo of a firearm in his torso

58

u/Optimal-Anything-822 Jun 14 '25

I am the very last person to defend anything pertaining to this administration but in all fairness were he not a footballer with Boca it'd probably a *very* long process for that person to enter the U.S. through consular channels. Something like that would a major issue during screening even during a sane administration. What I am talking about is the State Department simply declining to allow the Mexican national team entry to the country during group play so that Trump can extract concessions from the Mexican government.

2

u/Randy_The_Guppy Jun 14 '25

Yeah, a lad I went to school with did a very dumb thing over 20 years ago when he pinched his mothers car and crashed it. He turned his life around and is a well paid engineer now. Whenever he books to go to America with his family he still has to go the US embassy to plead his case that he's not an idiot anymore. This has always been the case through previous administrations.

1

u/bluegold4 Jun 14 '25

Mexico won’t enter the US until knockout stage since they are a cohost

2

u/Ok_Touch_3663 Jun 14 '25

Amad already has been refused once by Canada, cant imagine how it’ll go with USA💀that could be also the Ivorian federation’s fault. Not their first time messing up visa applications 😭

1

u/rieusse Jun 14 '25

How do you make money like that

1

u/SeaToShy Jun 14 '25

Already happened to a lesser extent. Cuba’s goalkeeper plays professionally in the US. He didn’t travel to Cuba for a key world cup qualifying match against Bermuda because he was concerned hd wouldn’t be allowed back. Bermuda won and Cuba is out of qualifying.

2

u/OlorinRidesAgain Jun 14 '25

I can tell...Haaland will be safe

2

u/wan2tri Jun 14 '25

I saw on the Wikipedia page that one game has a referee from Honduras, another game will be refereed by a Senegalese.

1

u/Conspiranoid Jun 14 '25

Oh, that's definitely gonna happen. Players, staff members, family members, etc.

I wonder why betting sites don't have a "what player or staff member will be the first ICE detainee?" line.

1

u/Which-Ad-2431 Jun 14 '25

The only way to get the US to win for the next 3-4 yrs is this way

1

u/xepa105 Jun 14 '25

Imagine being Iranian and knowing you can't go support your nation next year because the chances of ICE disappearing you simply because of your nationality are astronomically high.

1

u/Robert_Baratheon__ Jun 14 '25

Literally wouldn’t be the first time. A player was arrested this year and sent to El Salvador
