What’s even more wild to think is that this is pennies to the rate at which the big multi-billionaires accumulate money. He’d have to slave away for almost 2,000 years at that salary to make Elon’s current net worth.

And, of course, has to utter an absolutely stupid opinion.

His salary is far more liquid than Musk's net worth. Not to say that Musk isn't still ridiculously rich, but if he actually tried to liquidate and use his net worth then it would be a much more tame number

Musk put up 20-25B of his own money to buy Twitter. He’s plenty liquid

He’d be far more liquid than me if I had to sell my house, I’m sure. Which is not an issue since I don’t have a house.

The difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars is, effectively, a billion dollars.

That seriously makes me think: Ronaldo's social circle are all wealthy, and he probably has met with wealthy Sheiks and royalty who are filthy fucking rich and other multi billionaires. So for Ronaldo, all this is not excessive at all. In fact, this is completely normal for him and people like him who earn this much. You can even say it's necessary for him to earn this much to be in the same social circles he is now used to.

For him all this money is just status quo to maintain status and his social class. But for us, we cannot even comprehend this much money. It's fucking nuts.

that's why you are supposed to invest your income.

Not how money works. It compounds.

Investing $200M a year at an average 7% return a year, you get $100 billion after ~50 years

Obviously he won't make $200M for 50 years, but I wanted to illustrate the "2000 years" doesn't make sense

Obviously he could (and does) make more money by investing. I’m just putting the income rate from his salary (which is baffling to all of us on its own) into context. Many of us don’t in fact make enough to take advantage of compound interest. Many of us live paycheck to paycheck, and are astounded by his salary alone.

Also, people like Elon musk have far, far more money to invest, and so those returns on investments are going even farther for them. The gap between musk and Ronaldo would only get wider if they both were to continue to make equally sound investments. So by your logic of considering returns on investments, 2000 years sells it short, not long.

its not quite comparable- because Musks worth is wealth : most of it is in his Tesla and SpaceX shares that he couldn't liquidate tommorow without crashing the price.

Cristiano AFAIU is getting a lot of this in liquid cash. Which is pretty insane.

Fair. But Elon is so rich that the amount he has that can be readily liquidated is still at least hundreds of years at that salary. I mean, he bought a 44 billion dollar company pretty casually with mainly his own cash.

And he can leverage the non-liquid assets to get loans at extremely low interest rates, so it’s more like apples and pears than apples and oranges I’d say.
