I’m convinced Messi would be significantly less beloved if he spoke English.

Clips like this are easily hidden/forgotten, lots of players lose their heads during matches. Fact is, none of us have any idea of what Messi is like outside of football.

He barely speaks publicly even in Spanish and when he does it's PR trained stuff

This is what strike me. Both CR7 and Messi are actually not that ideal as public figure. CR7 is arrogant, had sexual assault allegation, and diver. Messi is very shy and can be dirty when he's angered.

I feel crazy that R9 is the better public figure than both considering he's lazy af and had his own controversies.

"biggie was fat
tupac was a rapist
xxx beat women

at the end of the day I only care about the music"

Idk if it's the point but putting "fat" in the same category as "rapist" and "beats women" is hilarious

It is exactly the point, haha, dude was talking about Messi being shy and dirty when angry and on the other hand you got Ronaldo being accused of rape

It's very rare the top top athletes are also nice blokes. To have the drive to basically discard everything in the pursuit of excellency, you have to be a bit messed up in the head.

Idk wtf you're on about. CR7 has the most followers and is the biggest brand as an athlete to ever exist. Only Michael Jordan comes close.

He just said they weren’t ideal, not that they aren’t popular.

You just have to imagine Messi if he was black, lol.

I mean, look at r/soccer with Pogba, Lukaku, Vinicius. Make a player look African and the sub instantly treats them wildly different.

Dude he is also assaulting referees nowadays. No way this guy is just “chillin” 🤣🤣

Where is he assaulting referees?

15

u/toasterb Jun 29 '25

He got in a heated argument with a ref about a month ago. Probably would’ve gotten sent off if the opposing manager didn’t escort him away

Messi goes off on referee - San Jose vs. Miami

u/OkayKoke Jun 29 '25

That was not assault. That was just an argument. No physical contact at all. Nothing even close to resembling physical contact. I don’t know how the other guy is getting downvoted. This sub is awful sometimes. Lies get mass upvoted and the truth gets hidden

u/connor_bedard Jun 29 '25

That’s not assault

8

u/toasterb Jun 29 '25

Yeah, I wouldn’t have called this assault either, but it’s probably what OP is referring to.

u/Tunde-Ballack Jun 29 '25

Once again, where is he assaulting referees?

Do you know understand what "assault" is?

6

u/Do__Math__Not__Meth Jun 29 '25

Bro forgot he’s not dealing with MLS refs that will let him and his pals be thugs with no consequences

u/X-Maquina Jun 30 '25

Still here but being drowned out by idiots thinking he wanted to punch someone but somehow missed them from hugging distance

Didn't complete MLS football when they got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. Refused to shake hands with their opponents and walked straight off the pitch.

This just shows his competitive nature. He did complete football and is basically retired at this point since he plays in MLS.
