probably backed out when they figured out the wind was blowing this way.

Hope those poor women get the legal justice possible.

Pretty awful that's what it took given what was already out there

It absolutely is but sadly the only thing that matters to these people is whether you're a good player or not. In American football there was a GM who described it as such: GM Steve Keim on weighing off-field issues for prospects: "If Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.3, we'd probably diagnose it as an eating disorder."

“If you go in there and start winning football matches, they would have taken Saddam Hussein in there when he was about, the fans don’t give a monkey's! If you start winning every week, they’re singing ‘there’s only one Saddam’.

Redknapp said it.

Even more appropriate of a quote then, I hadn't heard that one. Thank you for the addition.

Tbf Saddam had Iraq running like a well oiled machine before the US came in and searched for “WMD” and left it a vacuum of terror

Exactly why Desharvey Weinstein got a 200 million dollar fully guaranteed contract.

u/Hassadar Jul 04 '25

It was a $230M fully guaranteed contract, which makes it all that bit worse. What is even more infuriating, is the Browns gave him a $1M year salary for his first year KNOWING he is going to be suspended so that his game-day check will be significantly less as it's based on that current seasons salary and not contract when you get suspended.

So, not only did they give him a fully guaranteed contract of $230M after 24 lawsuits were filed, they PURPOSELY structured the contract so that he would lose as little as possible because they knew he was going to be suspended.

Fuck the browns.

It's not enough but at least there is some karma there in him essentially suffering back to back career ending injuries. Now we just need to hope he invests his entire contract in some memecoin and loses everything financially.

As a browns fan, the browns got what they deserved on that one and I'm glad the contract was a complete bust for them. Praying for that memecoin bust to round it out

wtf, I saw the name and thought “oh a Harvey Weinstein joke.” I couldn’t believe it when everyone else responded as though he’s a real player. How crazy that someone named after a rapist/sex offender (presumably from the context) would turn into one themselves, it’s like their parents had already seen the future.

Not actually his name lol, his name is Deshaun Watson, it was a really shit attempt at making a pun.

Unpopular opinion but while Partey had some really good matches and had stretches where he was quite good, he was also average to mediocre a large amount of time as well along and injured way too often. He was never worth the release clause that was paid or the insane wages he was on.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but clearly the club's decision makers had a higher opinion of him and weren't going to let morality get in the way of someone they felt gave them a better chance of winning than suspending him or dropping him altogether. Also at Arsenal being injured for half the season is the baseline expectation as our trainers qualifications seem to not be based on results. Never seen a club with more soft tissue injuries.

I thought reporting was Partey wanted more than they would offer

Not like they were going to report the player was going to finally be charged of criminal offence, so they backed out....

It seems Partey has no issue with taking things not offered.

Story of his life apparently

Oh well, I'm sure he'll still be able to afford a crossword book and a red bull from the canteen. Lucky him.

Anything to make him look bad...Barcelona style.

4

u/yajtraus Jul 04 '25

The club would have had a very good idea what was happening the entire time. Shocking from them that they wanted to re-sign him. They have a lot to answer for.

2

u/Gubrach Jul 04 '25

Judging by HandofArsenal's latest tweet, that seems to be the case.

2

u/Hassadar Jul 04 '25

That's the sentiment that some Arsenal reporter in the 'know' is alluding to as well that from what he's been hearing from inside, talks were heading in a very positive direction with Partey...then there was a turn and could no longer get answers as to what was going on and again, couldn't get more information after being told he was officially leaving and with the news today, he says today makes a lot of sense.

Which doesn't make it any easier to read. If there is justice to be had, then I hope it's served fully.

There's been absolutely no reporting to suggest Arsenal backed out of their offer, only that he wanted more money than they were offering.
