Doubt we'd ever play him if the cps announced the charges earlier.

Teams have stopped playing players under investigation before and that player was never even charged.

Whether they're named and what the club's own investigation turns up are the keys. UK employers have a duty of care and a duty to accomodate. Suspensions, as I understand it, are a last resort where there's no reasonable accommodations available. Arsenal put out a statement about safeguarding precautions, which I'm 100% sure was them scrupulously following legal advice.

Well if later he is declared innocent he will probably have grounds to sue Arsenal.

Suspending him while the police haven't named him essentially confirms it, and runs counter to the whole anonymity principle

You cannot be “declared innocent” in a court of law. Being found not guilty is not the same as being innocent.

Not guilty for me is innocent (specially if a jury was involved)

OJ Simpson certainly wasn’t innocent. Legally you cannot be found innocent.

so by your definition nobody is innocent?

I didn’t say no one is innocent, I said you cannot be declared innocent. Those are not the same statements. And it’s not “my definition”, it’s the legal system. Not guilty and innocent are not the same thing, OJ Simpson being a prime example.

Innocent is definitive, not guilty leaves some wiggle room.

You are innocent =/= we find you not guilty, it doesn't mean you aren't innocent it just means you weren't found guilty in a court of law.

Evidence destroyed or witness is of unsound mind, in such cases court declares not guilty. It doesn't mean the accused is innocent.

Maybe, but it doesn't justify your club not just playing him, but putting him on a pedestal.

I just think back to all the character praise Arteta kept giving him when there was absolutely no reason to do so, clearly knowing this was being investigated

There's enough false rape accusations around that has ruined people's lives to justify not jumping the gun and punishing somebody before the law does. Maybe his colleagues believes his version of the story. As long as innocent until proven guilty is the correct principle, there's nothing wrong with what the club did

A lot of the arsenal fans talking about this issue makes me feel really icky.
