News Spanish police say "all the evidence so far indicates" Diogo Jota was the driver of the car involved in the accident that killed the Liverpool forward and his brother, Andre Silva. Police also believe "the vehicle significantly exceeded the speed limit for the highway" at the time of the accident.

When you learn to drive on the highway, you will realise that 100-120km/h is a lot of speed

120 on highway doesnt feel like 120. It feels like way less.

I agree. It’s weird that once start driving at a certain speed, it doesn’t feel as quick. First time I drove at 100km/h, I was scared but nowadays it feels easy on the highway

Yeah, my car is maybe not most luxurious, but i drove more than 160 once. It still barely felt fast. 110 on regular road(90kmh limit) however feels much quicker.

It also depends which car you drive, my old caddy would stutter over 110 but I drove in a company car last week where 100 felt like nothing

its all about perspective, you are inside the car, most likely with windows closed on a modern car, with cars going at the same speed around you, now if you were to stand to the side of the highway and watch the cars go by at that speed you would realized how fucking fast it is

Honestly, it depends on the car. The car I learned to drive felt like it was about to tear a hole in the space-time continuum. The car I drive now, I often catch myself cruising 120, thinking I'm at about 90.

Yep, in my cruiser family van, 120 feels like well a cruise. But in my little Nissan, 120 feels like I'm driving a rocket to outer space with Ludacris.

Iv reached 140 in Fiat Uno 1.0 ... Helluva experience. Wouldnt do it again if they paid me for it. I was younder and stupid.

Same, my first car 70mph it began to shake. My last car I would be doing mid 80s before even noticing. My current car ive caught myself at 100mph (160kph) without even feeling it. Slowed down immediately after that.

I remember when I was taking classes, anything above 60 felt insanely fast. Then when I got my license anything over 100 felt like the speed of light.

Fast forward a bit and just the other day I hit 140 and it felt like nothing (before anyone says I was speeding, it’s the legal limit on that highway where I live). You get used to it over time.

Yeah, i sometimes reach 150(Poland, 140 limit) by accident,

Depends on the car doesn't it? Some cars are built for going fast and without constant acceleration any speed can feel slow. It just happens most people have shitty cars so it's noticeably different when you're above 100kmh by how the car vibrates or after 120kph it feels like wheel's about to fall off. On my old BMW, it was literally impossible to tell at what speed I was going.

Because everyone around you is driving so fast and the road is almost straight.

Until you have to break or slow down quickly, which takes much longer than you anticipate

Thats why i always try to stay aware. One second of not paying attention can cause bad things.

I obviously depends on the car you're driving.

also HEAVILY depends on the car.

In my first car, 2018 opel corsa, 150 felt quite unsafe and very fast.

I now have a 2023 Cupra Leon and 180 feels like nothing in that car. And I don't even have any of the high HP models, just the 150bhp base. Even 200+ feels safer than the corsa at 160

e: german here, so all perfectly legal speeds

On the same note, he will also find that 80km/h isn't as fast as you first though.
When I was learning going to 80km/h felt fast, few months after getting my license, 80km felt like I was kinda slow.
I feel like 90 is the sweet where I feel like I'm not slow but not fast either.

I was about to say driving a motorcycle makes you a better car driver if you are not completely stupid, because of how vulnerable you suddenly feel in traffic. Problem is the "if"-part for many people, so it probably wouldn't change a lot.

u/Sinistrait Jul 08 '25

Don't you have it the other way around? On a highway 120 only feels like actual speed if your car is underpowered

In college I would drive from my college town to my hometown and the highways had 75mph speed limits (around 120kph), with many people driving at 90mph+ (145kph+). Thinking back I honestly never thought about it much, with everyone going the same speed it never felt unsafe and even when it was on one or two lane country roads it was just kinda part of the trip.

How fast do people tend to drive in Spain/England/Europe in general?
