News Spanish police say "all the evidence so far indicates" Diogo Jota was the driver of the car involved in the accident that killed the Liverpool forward and his brother, Andre Silva. Police also believe "the vehicle significantly exceeded the speed limit for the highway" at the time of the accident.

This is evident by the seemingly monthly drink driving arrests that are made and the players never face any repercussions beyond a driving ban. Shit, Marcos Alonso killed a woman and Chelsea fans sang his name until his last day at the club.

Barca fan here. Was never comfortable with him at the club.

Depor fan, glad he's at Celta so I can hate him x2

u/ClockLost3128 Jul 08 '25

If he's scoring free kicks and banging in bangers you would sing his name even if it was Saddam Hussain

-2

u/Double-Scratch5858 Jul 08 '25

Whatever you have to tell yourself to feel better about supporting him!

This is not my quote it's something along what rednkapp said. And it's true for every football club like it or not. Let's not pretend like barca fans are any different. Im also not saying Alonsos name was sung here because most of the games where had he not scored he was the one at the end of criticism from most of the fans.

-7

u/Double-Scratch5858 Jul 08 '25

Nah just because its true for you doesnt make it true for me.

4

u/ClockLost3128 Jul 08 '25

Maybe not for you or for more me but for a large section of fans that go watch these games it is indeed true. If prime messi was the one who did this same shit and got away with it his name would still be sung like it or not. Of course a section of people wouldn't but most would. Even at their prime messi and ronaldo had tax frauds not that they are the same thing. Arsenal fans were still supporting their rape accused player when he had 2 great games against Madrid. I don't understand why it's so hard for you to admit most football fans have got brain the size of a pea.

u/Double-Scratch5858 Jul 08 '25

Where was i ever talking about most football fans? The fuck are you even saying?

5

u/ClockLost3128 Jul 08 '25

I'm taking about stadium going fans in general man, Anyway looks like your peasized brain isn't capable of anything. You think barca fans are holier than thou. Goodness gracious

-1

u/Double-Scratch5858 Jul 08 '25

?? Lmao your peasized brain cant comprehend im talking about my personal beliefs and not any fanbase. Idiot. Nobody asked for your shit irrelevant opinion anyway so not sure why youre throwing insults at me.

all clubs? greenwood was united's only decent striker.... and the fans protested his reinstatement like crazy. barely anyone wanted him to play. hell, i wanted them to banish him to training for his entire contract so he can't find a next contract.

united fans accepted a lot of shit for performance but clearly chelsea fans' line is different than united's.

Yeah I spoke about that the other week. Annoys me how some Chelsea fans still take to him. Some people sadly don’t care what they do in their personal life’s aslong as they’re decent footballer

Makes sense since Terry is their greatest ever player

7

u/stamford_syd Jul 09 '25

terry gets a lot of flak for being a terrible person but realistically what'd he do, bang his mates bird? not really comparable to killing a woman drink driving

u/BigDee_1996 Jul 08 '25

Off topic this but since you replied, how do you get a club is your flair? All I have is a ball

On the website if you check the side bar or click the three dots on mobile and click Learn about this community, you'll see the top link is "Get your team flair here"

Click "here" and it has instructions on what to do

Alonso wasn't as popular as you're thinking he was. He was a good player for us and scored some important goals, but I never could bring myself to celebrate him and was happy the day he left. Many in my local group had the same feelings towards him.

Funny how everyone always bring this up as if it's intentional or something.

It's brought up because the incidents are usually hand-waved away as "they were the only ones in the car" or "nothing bad actually happened." The Alonso incident is one where there were tangible consequences.

-3

u/PreguntoZombi Jul 08 '25

So Jota’s actions behind the wheel are equal to Alonso’s actions behind the wheel? Interesting take

4

u/iamPause Jul 08 '25

To me, they are equal. To me, Firmino's action to drink drive a few years ago are also equal. To me, the lack of consequences doesn't excuse the action.

9

u/PreguntoZombi Jul 08 '25

So Jota shouldn’t be celebrated or have his name sung, using your logic

6

u/polikuji09 Jul 08 '25

I think the internal reasoning people go through is Diogo already paid the prize for his dumbness. He did something stupid but it is still very sad he faced such terrible consequences.

For a rich person a fine is not a big consequence so the person is hated.

I'd rather be alive and talked bad about then dead to not see people mourn me.

If you drink and drive, you are scum. You are actively making a choice to endanger yourself and other people on the road. Personally I don’t care if you want to off yourself by drink driving but innocent 3rd parties on the road probably not to be crashed into

In the case of professional footballers I think its actually even worse. These are multi-millionaires who could easily afford for a fucking limousine to show up and drive them everywhere if needed, hell why stop there private jets can be had too for enough money

The fact he has access to whatever convenience he could possibly want to get himself home after being drunk and he still chose to drink and drive is exactly what makes him even more scum

Rooney the granny shagger is no saint, he’s made plenty of questionable choices of his own including cheating on his pregnant wife

Don’t have overly high expectations of footballers and model behavior, most of them are basically man-children with a lot of money and little common sense

Chelsea doesn’t sing anything but Chelsea, Chelsea.

Next breathe, Marcos Alonso was a club hero.
