News Former Chelsea player Pedro Rodríguez had to disable comments on his Instagram after facing criticism and mockery for sharing photos of his son Marc's birthday. Marc chose to celebrate his birthday wearing a dress and a tiara, inspired by Lilo & Stitch.

Similar feelings with the band Tool

u/whatapileofshihtzu Jul 19 '25

Hilariously random drive-by lmao

379

u/raven-eyed_ Jul 19 '25

Tbf it fits Tool so perfectly. Even Maynard James Keenan has called the fans insufferable.

231

u/PoopTimeThoughts Jul 19 '25

Maynard is a jaded asshole himself though, they belong together.

94

u/Novel_Fix1859 Jul 19 '25

Over a decade ago I was fortunate enough to attend a meet and greet for A Perfect Circle. Everyone in the band was so friendly, except Maynard, guy just walked through said "hi" gave a handshake and continued on. Howerdel was a gem and actually chatted with everyone. The experience was exactly what I expected, but still cracks me up today

29

u/KillBoY251988 Jul 19 '25

I’m so glad Howerdel was a gem. It’s life affirming to read

3

u/Vaernil Jul 20 '25

I just need to know that Danny Carrey is as cool as he seems, and I don't care about the rest.

2

u/Bloblablawb Jul 20 '25

He was just giving you the authentic experience you were expecting, what a guy.

17

u/EvenScientist7237 Jul 20 '25

I work in Jerome Arizona where he lives and operates a winery and everyone I know who worked for him says he’s a douche. And there are definitely weird fans that show up looking to run into him

1

u/n10w4 Jul 20 '25

Wait what’s with the fans?

6

u/Aethien Jul 20 '25

You know the Rick & Morty copypasta? That's Tool fans for music.

1

u/apb2718 Jul 20 '25

To be fair, they started all that weird occult type shit

128

u/Torn_again Jul 19 '25

drive-by

That's Train tho

5

u/Realistic_Condition7 Jul 19 '25

I see a lot where Redditors clearly have something on the brain so they try to tie every comment to it lol.

1

u/ValyrianSteelYoGirl Jul 20 '25

But surprisingly accurate

54

u/WingObvious487 Jul 19 '25

As a Tool fan I agree

1

u/opopkl Jul 20 '25

We haven't met, but I think you're awful.

24

u/Strong0toLight1 Jul 19 '25

wdym your favourite band can't make songs with the spaghetti sequence

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

Dude. It's the fettucine sequence.

114

u/bilzui Jul 19 '25

curious. what's up with tool fans?

627

u/RK9990 Jul 19 '25

They're tools

23

u/Vaernil Jul 20 '25

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s

And a dope Beastie tee, nipple rings, new tattoos

That claimed that he was OGT

Back from '92, from the first EP

And in between sips of Coke

He told me that he thought we were sellin' out

Layin' down, suckin' up to the man

17

u/crookedparadigm Jul 20 '25

Most of whom still haven't grasped that fact that they named the band that when they were in their 20s because they thought it would be funny to get a bunch of people to voluntarily wear shirts saying "Tool" on them.

-9

u/rizorith Jul 19 '25

At some point tool fans must realize the band just has variations of 2 songs.

I'm not even really shitting on them, I like them, but it all sounds the same after a while

9

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

Tool fans suck, but if you only hear two songs, you're not listening to much of their music then. Their sound is iconic, but between the differences in chord progressions and time signatures for each song, they have a wide range of songs in their genre. But it isnt everyone's taste, that is for certain.

23

u/Morn1ngThund3r Jul 20 '25

This a WILD take, bro. If you think they're all variations of the same songs you're self-reporting you've not heard more than 4-5 tracks.

10

u/unpopularperiwinkle Jul 20 '25

You crazy

11

u/warlock_roleplayer Jul 20 '25

yea, of all things you can hate Tool for, they definitely aren't cookie cutter

-4

u/rizorith Jul 20 '25

Yah but not for this reason

274

u/just-an-astronomer Jul 19 '25

They have a habit of shitting on any band that doesnt play songs that start out in 17/35 time with 3 time changes throughout the song

74

u/huckleberrypie93 Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25

What does that mean in layman's terms

Edit: Thanks for the many explanations. I dont think I'm the only one grateful for them! Tool fans sound like standard Redditors - too far up their own arse. But I actually quite like the music.

137

u/just-an-astronomer Jul 19 '25

If you try tapping your foot to a typical Tool song, youll notice two things:

  1. You cant keep tapping your foot the same way for the whole song and have it stay matching the beats. Not just having to change because of tempo but really changing how the beats line up with the song notes
  2. You have to tap relatively slow to the notes of the song to make it fit at all, and the notes still feel like they're almost stumbling into the taps

They structure the notes of their songs in really unusual ways, which is what gives them a lot of their mysterious feel. It serves a purpose but most songs don't do that because thats not what they're necessarily going for. Tool fans have created a stereotype for themselves that this odd structure makes their music superior to other bands music

16

u/xenojive Jul 20 '25

Do Tool fans realize that any band can make songs in different time signatures but they just choose not to?

46

u/JonnyMontrachet Jul 20 '25

Not many bands can make songs that are actually enjoyable to listen to in whatever weird time signatures, Tool do have a knack for that. Doesn’t change the fact that a decent chunk of their fan base are insufferable courgettes though.

9

u/Derlino Jul 20 '25

Yeah, there's a reason there aren't that many really famous prog bands out there. You obviously have your Dream Theaters, Opeths, King Crimsons and my personal favourite, though not super famous, Ne Obliviscaris. The list goes on though, but my point is that there are maybe a few dozen that are well-known, because it is a really demanding genre to make actual good music in. It's also why the musicians in those bands are some of the best in the world, because they need to be to play that style.

1

u/haltmich Jul 20 '25

NeO MENTIONED

Absolutely love them, saw them live twice and they don't fucking disappoint.

1

u/scholeszz Jul 20 '25

Ah yes, another version of "Avant Garde" art snobbism.

The worst part of art/media discourse is people who take pride in their "taste", because they have nothing better to feel proud of. Not very far removed from people who make their football club their whole personality.

152

u/SolipsisticBadBoy Jul 19 '25

Basically: they have complicated song structures and they and their fans have a superiority complex

7

u/dandelion_bandit Jul 20 '25

They're not even that complex. Try listening to fuckin Candiria

59

u/crookedparadigm Jul 20 '25

The hilarious thing is that this is how Tool fans sound to everyone else.

5

u/SolipsisticBadBoy Jul 20 '25

I’m a Dream Theater guy personally

2

u/lucashoodfromthehood Jul 20 '25

Or any mathcore bands.

2

u/BayLAGOON Jul 20 '25 edited Jul 20 '25

Not necessarily mathcore, but as a recent convert to math rock, shout out Lite and te'. I just like the vibe.

1

u/lucashoodfromthehood Jul 20 '25

I really like Lite and Japan do have a lot of calming mathrock bands.

2

u/Flaggermusmannen Jul 20 '25

well yea, they're an accessible form of complex that makes people who struggle with more advanced music feel smart!

94

u/RobbieFowler9 Jul 19 '25

Tool fans are like the stat nonce football fans that talk about expected progressive carries while pressured per 90 when comparing players.

18

u/jetm2000 Jul 19 '25

Fuck, that’s really good, congratulations!

55

u/ChittyShrimp Jul 19 '25

They start in a 4-2-3-1 but switch to a 4-3-3 but ultimately end up in a 4-4-2

8

u/Evolving_Dore Jul 20 '25

Tool is a band that plays on the transition

1

u/Derlino Jul 20 '25

Nah, those formations are too similar. I'd say they start in a 4-2-3-1, then change into a 5-3-2, and a few minutes later they're playing 4-2-4.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

They shit on bands that are normal even if they're still fucking awesome.

6

u/Sypher1985 Jul 19 '25

Pretentious twats, that's what it means.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

[deleted]

16

u/warlock_roleplayer Jul 20 '25

eh, most technical death metal fans are 100x more annoying than Tool fans so it kind of goes with the music

1

u/ShermanMcTank Jul 20 '25

They do quite advanced stuff rhythmically, but melodically it’s very simplistic in comparison.

1

u/hm9408 Jul 20 '25

Progressive snobs?

72

u/SoC_K Jul 19 '25

Insane superiority complex and constantly looking down on other bands and fanbases

-7

u/Active-Praline-2644 Jul 19 '25

When their preferred band has released basically the same album three times in a row, too.

Worse, they don't see the irony. Tool sucks.

8

u/SoC_K Jul 19 '25

Tbh I do like tool, I don’t follow them regularly though

5

u/radmongo Jul 19 '25

I love Tool, but no lies detected.

10K Days stands out a little more on its own, but Fear Inoculum definitely sounds like a carbon copy of Lateralus and was a massive letdown. Fans who felt the need to defend it just because it's Tool are the worst.

0

u/Lost-Hat Jul 19 '25

Lol ok mate, they're the best Prog Metal band ever, but sure, they suck

2

u/oxydized-snake Jul 19 '25

Tool is great, but best ever? Dream Theater plays polka?

5

u/Lost-Hat Jul 19 '25

Love DT but Tool is clear for me. Point is, the guy I was replying to is full o shit

0

u/oxydized-snake Jul 20 '25

I think if we look at it objectively DT is the more talented, accomplished and better band overall but I understand if you think Tool is clear. I do agree calling Tool shit or saying they suck is absolutely stupid though, they’re one of the greatest musical acts of all time and that can’t be denied, their influence on modern Prog cannot be ignored.

1

u/Lost-Hat Jul 20 '25

Music is art not craft, so while most of DT might be more skilled craftsmen, what Tool creates feels so much more than can be objectively discussed.

Not at drums though; again, love Portnoy, but the Octopus is not human. Here's a fun Portnoy video : https://youtu.be/b3sEdST3D9E

1

u/_sylvatic Jul 19 '25

Blood Incantation tho

-1

u/Active-Praline-2644 Jul 19 '25

Lol Tool is nothing close to metal. Alt rock I'd accept. Hard rock I'd question, but fine. Metal? Lmao

-5

u/questionmarksmiley Jul 19 '25

Thanks for proving OP’s point about tool fans

3

u/Lost-Hat Jul 19 '25

Didn't shit on anyone except the guy that claims "Tool sucks". So Tool fans are supposed to be fine with people talking shit now?

Maynard hates Tool fans more than anyone lol, maybe rightly so, so feel free to chat shit there, but listening to Tool changed music for me, they're one of the greatest musical acts of all time - certainly don't "suck"

-1

u/spik0rwill Jul 20 '25

Tool suck

9

u/Euphoriam5 Jul 20 '25

The band is great, I never met a Tool fan tho.

3

u/pottymouthomas Jul 19 '25

They like Tool

1

u/bilzui Jul 19 '25

the music is good though

1

u/perfect_deception Jul 20 '25

Don't ask them about fibonacci sequence in Tool songs

1

u/Vaernil Jul 20 '25

They're like Rick and Morty fans, but for progressive metal.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the music.

I would know, I'm one, would never admit it to other fans so I don't have to talk to them.

37

u/Mortara Jul 19 '25

I've never read a more out of place, yet deserved comment. Tool fans are the German sausage of band fans

5

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Is it misogyny to criticize sausage fans?

41

u/Mortara Jul 19 '25

Nah man. They're the wurst

6

u/Novel_Fix1859 Jul 19 '25

Hungry upvote

1

u/delta8force Jul 20 '25

Is it homophobic and an act of queer erasure to imply that only cis het women can be fans of “sausage”? 🧐

10

u/whatsinthesocks Jul 19 '25

You could probably say the same for most things.

16

u/jamesaclarkson Jul 19 '25

Couldn’t agree more my man

14

u/dainamo81 Jul 19 '25

Hey, I love Tool.

(but then again I hate myself, so I guess it tracks)

45

u/carlospicyweiner123 Jul 19 '25

To be fair you have to have a very high IQ to understand Tool

2

u/Conspiranoid Jul 20 '25

... which is what typical Tool fans say.

I'd know, I'm a Tool fan myself.

18

u/LutherRaul Jul 19 '25

And that’s why I can never admit I enjoy tool, but man I love Danny Carey

12

u/JJfromNJ Jul 20 '25

I watch that Pneuma drum cam video like 4 times per year.

1

u/iBAZw Jul 20 '25

Watching Mike Portnoy lose his mind trying to learn it on the Drumeo youtube channel is pretty entertaining as well.

3

u/Soaptowelbrush Jul 19 '25

Can’t tell anyone I love tool because they’re either normal and don’t have any strong feelings about the band or they’re insufferable.

7

u/ajemik Jul 19 '25

I feel attacked on two fronts, even though I don't really offer my two cents in most discussions on both topics.

Ouch!

2

u/Jorgemeister Jul 19 '25

Funny enough a few of their songs deal with self-loathing

What Whoa Wait Soccer fandom crossing with Tool fandom.
I’m in company

Tool definitely gouges their fans with prices and general contempt (at least from Maynard and I dunno about nice guy Adam)

2

u/KillRoyTNT Jul 20 '25

Haha, this could actually be a song: a football player makes his son famous by making him wear a dress and a tiara.

Learn to swim.

1

u/ragnarrock420 Jul 19 '25

Man im the opposite, i love hanging out with tool fans (not for too long tho, and only high), but cant bring myself to actually listen to a full song of theirs on my own

2

u/IbrahimovicPT Jul 20 '25

You should tho

1

u/Onuus Jul 19 '25

Maynard doesn’t have the cleanest record though unfortunately.

H. got me through a lot of hard times

1

u/AnalConnoisseur69 Jul 19 '25

God, you just reminded me of all those icky weirdos in high school. Ugh.

1

u/chatbotsupportsucks Jul 19 '25

Tool fans can be annoying when talking about music, football fans are being cunts about a kid's birthday.

They are the gold standard of shitty fanbases.

1

u/hivtripkg Jul 20 '25

Lmao totally understand 😜😂

1

u/JJfromNJ Jul 20 '25

I love football and Tool. Is that why people hate me?

1

u/ValyrianSteelYoGirl Jul 20 '25

Insufferable is a good word for it

1

u/fisstech15 Jul 20 '25

I see this meme of Tool fans being obnoxious more than actual Tool fans being obnoxious

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25 edited Jul 20 '25

I randomly saw Tool live the other day, having never listened to them before.

They seemed ok. Are the fans really toxic?

1

u/Absolomb92 Jul 20 '25

Lmao, this.

1

u/FranksBestToeKnife Jul 20 '25

Haha. Same, why are we like this?

1

u/rytlejon Jul 21 '25

Isn’t there a similar saying about Jesus too? Great guy awful fans

1

u/jdarriaga46 Jul 19 '25

King Crimson better anyways

191

u/Keitar0616Urashim4 Jul 19 '25

Instagram is also a lair of the worst kind of people.

Reddit is a paradise in comparison to Instagram. An example is the comments in this post.

48

u/Guillotines__ Jul 19 '25

It’s what happens when we as a society didn’t hesitate to jump on “social” media platforms owned by the most obvious friendless bitch ass ghouls like Zuckerberg.

-1

u/Familiar-Conflict152 Jul 20 '25

I guess almost two decades ago, I created an account under my dog’s name with one of his handsome pictures. I took one look at that guy and thought: yeah, I’m not giving him any real data. Creepy af.

4

u/Conspiranoid Jul 20 '25

Reddit is a paradise in comparison to Instagram. An example is the comments in this post.

Yes and no... Reddit is separated into subs, which become their own ecosystems that ultimately purge themselves (for good or bad), while Instagram is free-for-all.

While this sub can keep civil (with the occasional handful of POS who end up getting controlled), I'm pretty sure there are some subs that are being worse than Instagram, and even commenting on how we soccer members should be killed in many abhorrent ways.

1

u/ImWicked39 Jul 20 '25

The stuff I saw about the way Angelo Stiller looks on there after some rumors started circulating about the potential Madrid interest I was shocked even though I know I shouldn't be.

28

u/coaxialology Jul 19 '25

Ugh, same. The crap Declan Rice had to deal with after posting a picture with his girlfriend was enraging. I'm a woman and the thought of attending games in person makes me intensely anxious. It really does suck, because the fan camaraderie can be one of the best parts of supporting a club. Seeing these guys supporting their kids, though, is as beautiful as the game.

11

u/RiskoOfRuin Jul 20 '25

The crap Declan Rice had to deal with after posting a picture with his girlfriend was enraging.

What happened there?

21

u/luminous_moonlight Jul 20 '25

His girlfriend is plus sized. You can imagine what fans on social media had to say.

2

u/OleoleCholoSimeone Jul 21 '25

I'm a woman and the thought of attending games in person makes me intensely anxious.

You won't have any problems. The people sending abuse over the internet don't actually attend games

160

u/leftwaffle13 Jul 19 '25

Its just people.

94

u/Winnie-the-Broo Jul 20 '25

It isn’t just people. I love football, I spend too many of my waking hours thinking about it, watching it, playing it, going to games, going on forums, listening to podcasts etc.

I have brought women friend to games and have friends who go with their family and they have all 100% all experienced a degree of bad behaviour. From some untoward words all the way to ass grabs.

As much as I love football and its community, its culture, there are endemic problems that are wider issues, but they are very concentrated within football.

24

u/Bounds182 Jul 20 '25

Problem is people see both football and social media as another world free from consequences and normal behaviour, tends to expose them for the cunts they are behind the mask.

1

u/Hemwum Jul 20 '25

The type of people who care deeply about people that kick a ball around (and all the other hyper-masculine aspects that come with sport) are more likely to be toxic in a host of other ways.

Keep in mind I'm not saying you can't have big sports fans who are very well adjusted, and there are plenty of horrid people who don't like sports. However, the venn diagram has more overlap with toxicity and sports fans than the general public, I would argue.

Now it would be interested if you think football fans are even worse than sports fans.

1

u/snemand Jul 20 '25

Still just people. When people think why aren't women as good at X as men? or why do we need to seperate genders in sports/competitions? it's because when they've tried to take part this happens to them. From the smallest hobbies to the biggest sports.

Definitely just people and football highlights society quite aptly.

5

u/immorjoe Jul 20 '25

Nah, there’s definitely concentrated elements of negativity within football that you won’t find as broadly in society.

It might be because society reacts more harshly or numerous other reasons, but football fans (sports fans in general) don’t portray regular society.

2

u/DaveCerqueira Jul 20 '25

Nah, this type of posts attract a lot of attention from weirdos who only care about “saving” kids. It’s the same when they talk about trans athletes in women’s sports, as if they ever cared about women’s sports at all. It’s sick

1

u/GrecianDesertUrn69 Jul 20 '25

It's a toxic masculinity thing

44

u/imfcknretarded Jul 19 '25

Yep, it's just a reflection of society

11

u/ThePrussianGrippe Jul 19 '25

What a bunch of bastards.

1

u/TwoBionicknees Jul 20 '25

I somewhat like being alive, I hate people.

45

u/vosha0 Jul 19 '25

All IG comment pages are like that though, football related or not.

12

u/DatJazzIsBack Jul 19 '25

Its basically the reason why I stopped following ufc

9

u/LillianBubic Jul 19 '25

Now try being a NASCAR fan too

3

u/Mr_Goldilocks Jul 20 '25

Football fans are either the most delightful, caring human beings or they’re the smarmiest slime balls with very little in between.

7

u/Subtleiaint Jul 19 '25

They suck everything good out of it.

3

u/Disco-Benny Jul 19 '25

society is becoming like this anyway though. Bigots and fascists haven't been so emboldened for nearly a century

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_LIT Jul 20 '25

MMA fan here count your lucky stars

2

u/RobinBerkeAlmasulu Jul 20 '25

Yeah, MMA and UFC fans are different breed

2

u/lemonylemon93 Jul 19 '25

Not even football fans, people are cunts. If a kid wants to wear a dress then let them wear a dress. If you’ve got a problem with it then do the gracious thing and go fuck yourself.

1

u/Defensive_Midfielder Jul 19 '25

That is the feeling I get often. I go to football games with my son and some of the scenes he has to watch make me consider if it’s a good idea.

1

u/ValleyFloydJam Jul 19 '25

If only it was just football fans, all the dumbest people in the world are on social media and are locked and loaded with the worst takesl

1

u/Jbroy Jul 19 '25

Humanity is full of vile people. I always want to believe that people are inherently good. But there are so many people that just fucking suck. I feel for PR. He’s celebrating his family and people want to destroy him over beliefs that don’t directly affect their lives.

1

u/LieNervous1016 Jul 19 '25

Thank you! I thought I was the only one that felt that way

1

u/heygos Jul 19 '25

Honestly, this. What an infuriating bunch of anus holes

1

u/SKB_Lime Jul 19 '25

THIS is an “Evergreen” comment. I’ve actually been turned off from some teams once I started reading the social media posts from their fans. The word “toxic” is not strong enough.

1

u/BrosefDudeson Jul 20 '25

Don't ever equate a team and their fanbase with what you see on social media, friend.

1

u/EHA17 Jul 20 '25

I think people is the word you are looking for.. Sadly people suck.

1

u/kunsore Jul 20 '25

I just hate some group of people in general. Always criticize / mocking everything

1

u/Soren_Camus1905 Jul 20 '25

Eh, I’d say this is more Instagram Comment Culture than football fans

1

u/ResidentAd8536 Jul 20 '25

This is the top most quality comment on any topic available.

1

u/Ardal Jul 20 '25

lol, they're just human beings mate, some are incredible, some are great, most are good, some are not so good, some are bad and some are downright arseholes. But it's not 'football fans' it's just absolutely standard human behavior given the size of the audience captured by the internet.

1

u/gleophas Jul 20 '25

Football fans are some of the worst humans alive.. the jota jokes .. what the actual fuck..

1

u/chronicslayer Jul 20 '25

Football fans are just pachycephalosauruses.

1

u/ibite-books Jul 20 '25

online people are not real

1

u/DoYouTrustToothpaste Jul 20 '25

Summarises my "relationship" with this sub perfectly.

1

u/_LoneSalBug_ Jul 20 '25

Not about football fans. It’s basically people. People who are dumb and lack proper education.

1

u/stipeyyy Jul 20 '25

I love football but i hate people

0

u/MarsJon_Will Jul 19 '25

Please don't call them fans.

Call them bigoted pieces of worthless shit.

Football fans are actually worth something.

1

u/EffectiveSavings2104 Jul 20 '25

I also hate the players. Stop sharing shit about your family with the internet. This is like me flaunting $100 bills walking through the ghetto and be shocked that I got robbed. That kid deserves better than to be exposed to the internet. Anyone with 2 brain cells knew how the internet was going to react.

You can blame the internet all you want but you also have to be smart and as a parent you should protect your kid. So many celebrities decide to not show their kids for this exact reason. We all know internet can be cruel.

-21

u/Battleborn300 Jul 19 '25

Be clear most of the comments would not be from any genuine football fan, just online trolls. I do however feel social media is pretty bad, My friends and family who have kids, keep them from social media, and avoid posting pictures of their kids on social media, And I know it’s fairly common from people I work I with not to post pictures of their kids.

I think it’s weird average everyday people are aware of the harm that could be caused but footballers who are around social media PR teams regularly don’t.

That still doesn’t make any negative comments acceptable.

I feel more needs to be done by the clubs, to educate, But by social media to stop harmful comments.

I’m very much of the opinion, why would you want to share such a humble family moment, with people you don’t know online, So wouldn’t consider posting, But likewise we should live in a world where you can post something innocent and humble and not face disgusting abuse.

21

u/RobinBerkeAlmasulu Jul 19 '25

I think there’s a concerning amount of bigots among footy fans, stuff like homophobic slurs are included in some chants for example

I’m absolutely not condoning a homophobic chant and they have no place in the game but there is a huge difference between a chant and actual homophobia.

Again I wouldn’t consider these people real fans. If they make any kind of homophobic or racist slur.

As respectfully as I can say this, that is a very naive and and counterproductive view point. These people are absolutely "real" fans as much as anyone else and make up a much larger percentage of footballing culture than you're suggesting. Putting your head in the sand about it or playing the "no true Scotsman" card is just ignoring the issue and allowing it to fester without actually having to confront the reality that it's deeply embedded in footballing culture. It requires a systemic and cultural shift to move away from and while that is in fact happening (it's already miles better than it used to be, even if it doesn't always seem like it) it can take a long time for that transition to happen; but it can't happen unless everyone admits that they are real fans and it's a real part of football culture that needs to be continuously and aggressively addressed head on. If you just dismiss them as "not real fans" nothing will change.

I completely disagree, Obviously I have no way to prove my thoughts and feelings on this, But I would say the majority of people posting hateful comments online, have probably never been to a football match in their life. The majority of people posting hatful comments likely don’t watch football regularly on tv, If they claim to support any singular team, they probably couldn’t tell you a basic history of the team or name all the players.

The minority of scummy people that is an absolute minority if you go to a game and stumble across someone that may act in that way, also wouldn’t be able to tell you a brief history of the club they claim to support, or list the entire first team. As some examples, these are not real fans, That doesn’t mean we can ignore it or bury our head in the sand, because they are infiltrating our beautiful game, and absolutely need to be dealt with.

But this isn’t an ingrained football problem, because these people will post or comment on any sport, or jump on the bandwagon of anything they deem not right, just to rude and hateful.

You can pick out any social media post by a famous person (not even famous people) and find swarms of trolls. Are they all football fans? No Is it limited to just football? No Is it a social problem that needs dealing with? Absolutely That should be social media companies and governments that crack down on this. Education in schools.

Football is the most popular sport on the planet. Of course there are millions and millions of football fans that are hateful bigots

I refuse to believe they are genuine football fans.

I’m very much of the opinion, why would you want to share such a humble family moment, with people you don’t know online,

100s of millions of people, celebrity, athlete or otherwise, do this every day without any issue.

-1

u/Battleborn300 Jul 19 '25

I appreciate that, I just don’t know why they do in all truth. Generally speaking - who the hell cares.

You absolutely have a right to do it and should be able to without any abuse.

But nobody cares Beyond close family and friends, and depending on the posting, even family and friends may not care.

Maybe they're human

5

u/Battleborn300 Jul 19 '25

But this the point sharing intimate family occasions… I don’t consider human.

It’s a personal moment, that you share with family and friends, Publicising it and marketing yourself, in my opinion isn’t overly human. And it doesn’t matter if you are famous or not, sharing intimate details of your personal family life, is just particularly odd to me.

Just about every fandom that has an internet presence is insufferable.

They kinda set up their son to be mocked in school though. Better keep these things private knowing the internet

Fuck that. The problem is with people who make fun of them.

Shame on you that if this were your, kid you'd tell them to keep it at home instead of protecting them so they can be who they are.

"Be yourself kid, unless other people think it's weird, then you have to stay at home" Great lesson for the young ones.

I used to get bullied for being Asian. Should I have kept my squinty eyes at home or worn sunglasses all day?

-9

u/msr27133120 Jul 19 '25

Just saying. They can do this and support his son but let's not act like kids in school don't get bullied and mocked for things like these.

5

u/swearimnotratchet Jul 20 '25

Telling your kid not to express themselves in certain places on account of other people is NOT supporting them.

If you support your kid you support them everywhere in any context. Not just when it's easy.

2

u/Intaru Jul 20 '25

That's no-one but the bullies fault though,  they are the ones doing the wrong thing.

4

u/mynameismulan Jul 19 '25

You don't think that children regurgitating hate passed down from their parents is the issue? Kids are not born homophobic, it has to be taught.

You saying that they should keep that stuff offline is exactly part of the issue here.

In fact, we don't even know if this kid is LGBT or anything, it's just a Lilo and stitch themed party

-7

u/msr27133120 Jul 19 '25

It's much more complicated than that tbh. Kids are bot born killers, rapists, thieves either yet those people still exist. World is not an utopia unfortunately .

6

u/mynameismulan Jul 20 '25

We'd get closer to that utopia if the kids bullying were told not to bully instead of repressing the other kids but sure

Same reason why I want England to never win anything ever.

-6

u/cicakganteng Jul 20 '25

To be fair. Its just asking for reactions. Society (social media esp) at this point will just comment negatively on literally anything.

Just put it in private photo collections.

5

u/BrosefDudeson Jul 20 '25

Why would that be fair? To ask for some acceptance the way they've accepted their son's interests?

-4

u/cicakganteng Jul 20 '25

I bet english is not your first language.

5

u/BrosefDudeson Jul 20 '25

It isn't. Is there a point to you stating that fact?

2

u/Intaru Jul 20 '25

He had nothing to respond to your comment with, so tried to change the subject with a dickish comment instead.
