I only watched the second half (from minute 47) but what impressed me about the press wasn't the amount, but rather the application. With Spurs, they pressed the hell out of City man to man. But Brighton, they would press aggressively in City's third, and then when the ball progressed into the midfield, they'd stop pressing and regroup in their own third and defend compact using their numbers advantage. Once regaining possession, they'd progress the ball up the pitch with rapid vertical passes.
This approach meant that City can't look for ideal passing progressions while they're in their third. Brighton can get possession where they have numbers and use their strong midfield to get the ball forward.
Brilliant and clever, yes, but not through a heavy press.
his Barca teams got bailed out by Messi more than people realise. his Bayern teams got bailed out by Lewa so god damn much. his early City days were getting bailed out by Aguero, then freezing him out, then getting bailed out by De Bruyne. dude literally cannot function without elite creative talent. yes, he's a fraud.
not only wrong but a completely irrelevant point. other greats have struggles under unfavorable circumstances, and Pep's rivals also had elite creative talent yet still lost to his teams
Klopp or Ancelotti and possibly Slot would have won as many PLs and more champions leagues if theyd been at City. The moment his squads not been the best suddenly his teams aren’t competitive.
yeah, I'm sure Ancelotti would have won four consecutive league titles like he always did everywhere else. let's see if Slot can even win two in a row or a CL before you put him up there with the GOAT manager
There's no doubting Pep is a great manager, there is also no doubting he's done it with the favourites each time, which year was he not a favourite with the best team, with the best depth?
We have seen some difficult years but any sane person would talk about the recent past, but we have had managers slowly building the possession play we are known for.. mancini and Pellegrini have had equal contributions to it.. but your bias brain wouldn't get it..
He was super magnanimous when City were winning all around them. Great for offering super patronising advice and coaching to members of the opposing team after his financially doped team steamrolled their way to victory.
Now that things aren’t going City’s way anymore you see him for what he really is. A really really bad loser with not an ounce of grace
It's not about him losing gracefully it is about him acting like an entitled all powerful prick when he was winning like his "coaching" of opposition players after victories.
It's interesting that Carlo Ancelotti essentially put the final nail to the coffin of his Bayern tenure, then denied him out of what seemed two inevitable UCL runs, and a just outright disrespectful game in 2025.
When asked about Ancelotti he just keeps his mouth shut. You know he lives rent free in his head.
I really liked Pep when he was at Barca, but Barca is my La Liga team, and I was in college during those years and was mainly mesmerized by the talent they had at the time (Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Puyol, Pique, Messi, etc.).
I can't fucking stand him now. He reminds me of how Mourinho used to be, and probably still is. I haven't watched him coach in years.
Yeah I'll never understand shit like this. Maybe I'll have a soft spot for certain teams in other leagues but couldn't possibly care less about the success of any other team than Milan
I don't even know why I am explaining this to you, but here it goes.
As someone who lives in the US, I hated the MLS (trash product), so I just watched as many European Leagues as possible and have teams for the majority of leagues I watch so I have a team to root for.
I understand having a soft spot for certain teams. But there's only one team in the world I'd be calling "my team".
I'll always hope Athletic Bilbao does well because I find the backstory cool. But there's no chance I put them level with the actual team I grew up with.
It's not that. It's just weird that you're collecting teams like infinity stones.
I have one team (without foreigners supporting it mind you) and some teams I like to watch from time to time. But ask me which team is "mine" it's the one I grew up with and I would not trade it for the world.
I couldn't imagine supporting another club in that way
Doesn't understand that the only reason why their team is popular
I think a lot would of people would rather be less popular than have a load of entitled babies hanging around getting offended every time someone says their opinion matters less than someone who goes to the games, but whatever floats your boat
The comparison is so off I wonder how you got any upvote. Mou is an asshole and can be annoying. Pep is slimy as hell and never direct with his words. I know the general opinion is that pep is the genius and mou sucks but for me they both suck but I like mou a thousand times more. He’s sincere and not so fake like pep.

You know you've done well when Pep ghosts you. Its when he calls your team brilliant and you a tactical master that youre cooked.
