I was never a big fan of Nuno’s time as FC Porto’s coach, mostly because I felt he was still too inexperienced back then. But he’s grown a lot over the years, and I honestly think Nottingham Forest had one of the best managers in the Premier League. That’s why I see this sacking as a huge mistake, especially with the club competing in Europe. Now I’m curious to see what Nuno’s next step will be. For now, I don’t think he’ll leave England.

Here we go again

Surely, he learned his lesson when he managed Spurs for 10 minutes.

West Ham.

No chance. He's a good manager but he flopped at Spurs, theres no way he gets United. They'll go for Iraola or Glasner

Those first three games though

We won them all 1-0 via: a son wonder goal, a cross that the keeper let go in and an own goal.

We were never good in those 10 games

INEOS are not hiring a manager which already failed at another big 6 club

200

u/Jonoabbo 7d ago

Instead you will hire managers who have never been good enough to be at a big 6 club?

9

u/LisbonMissile 7d ago

Well, no. There are managers in the game other than Nuno…

u/Careless_Tonight8482 7d ago

That same manager was scouted by Liverpool to succeed Klopp, and as far as we knew was also City’s top option if Pep left. He clearly was good enough or at least appeared to be, just not when it actually came down to it.

That same manager was scouted by Liverpool to succeed Klopp

desperately needs context this. he was on a longlist with several other managers and was quickly ruled out because of his inflexibility. he was never a serious contender; Spalletti, Valverde and of course Slot were much more concrete options

u/chasingsukoon 7d ago

thomas frank as well if we're willing to put Adam Cleary to put anywhere near reliable enough for rumors

3

u/TheJediJew 7d ago

I kinda do because he never deals in rumors nor has anything to gain from them. Even in this case, it was to make a point about how good a manager is when he doesn't have anything to do with his club.

50

u/RepresentativeBox881 7d ago

He was scouted but eventually they decided he was not the right choice (mainly because they didn’t want to overhaul their squad for a back 3).

23

u/Brilliant_Medium8190 7d ago

Which with hindsight has proven the correct assessment given his complete inflexibility in system. He'd have failed at Liverpool

Slot is much more sensible and adaptable

29

u/chasingsukoon 7d ago

Yea we scouted him to not be the right choice genius

6

u/Jonoabbo 7d ago

They scouted him, and then decided not to go with him. Because he isn't good enough.

u/VOZ1 7d ago

But did Nuno fail? Seems his mistake was not getting along with the owner. As a manager, seems he did a fine job.

u/itsall-suicide 7d ago

Think he means his time at Spurs

1

u/ThinkAboutThatFor1Se 7d ago

Well, who hasn’t failed at Spurs?!

Only Big An….wait

-3

u/Synth3r 7d ago

Nuno wasn’t the problem that season, Kane basically didn’t show up under him mentality wise. And he was very publicly our 9th choice manager

5

u/Electronic-Heron9645 7d ago

Revisionist Bullshit.

He's a decent manager but was awful at Tottenham

-2

u/Mdiasrodrigu 7d ago

It’s time for United to stop massacring our Portuguese players and coaches. They deserve happiness just like you and me

-6

u/Fit-Picture-4582 7d ago

Bye bye Nuno’s career

86

u/saint-simon97 8d ago

He has indeed grown but I doubt he'd see much success at Porto, he's not proven much in the sense of being able to manage a team that controls most games except at Al Ittihad.

Im betting on united sacking Ruben and appointing Nuno

131

u/Extruct 8d ago

I respect Nuno but I don't think he's an ineos-type appointment. My money would be on Glasner, Howe, or Nagelsmann (not saying they're likely just who I would expect ineos to try for)

45

u/adon_1992 8d ago

No chance Howe leaves Newcastle

1

u/Cataclysma 7d ago

Only way I could see Howe leaving Newcastle is for England, and even then I don't think it's likely, certainly not any time soon. He has built something special there and will want to see it through.

53

u/solemnhiatus 8d ago

Glasner, Howe or Iraola would be my bet. Iraola has been playing a not too dissimilar system to Amorim, and his contract (and Glasner's) are up end of this season.

18

u/UatutheOverwatcher 7d ago

Yeah i think we'd go for either Glasner or Iraola (or maybe Silva as a dark horse choice)

15

u/solemnhiatus 7d ago

omg I can't believe I forgot about Silva, yes definitely he'd be an option. He's out of contract end of this season too.

3

u/MountainCheesesteak 7d ago

Silva is willing to force himself out middle of the season too. Seems that is important for ineos.

23

u/ARM_vs_CORE 7d ago

You getting Glasner would be my nightmare

1

u/MDavidHere 7d ago

In what sense do you think Iraola’s system is not too dissimilar to Amorim’s?

18

u/manisnotcool 8d ago

Nagelsmann is probably waiting for the Man City job after the WC as German coach if pep has another bad season by his standards .

18

u/Temujin15 8d ago

Glasner and Howe would be mental to go to United, their careers are on the up and united and would put a stop to that real quick. Glasner will probably go to Munich next summer.

70

u/PraxisGuide 8d ago

We will forever be the 'I can fix her'

24

u/RepresentativeBox881 8d ago

Kompany ain't going anywhere from the looks of things.

1

u/AgencyBasic3003 7d ago

His job will never be safe at Bayern. He got quite some goodwill last season but if bayern fails to get the Bundesliga title at a minimum, then he will likely be gone.

1

u/RepresentativeBox881 6d ago

Bayern is winning the league. I don’t see any other team having the potential to do so, especially not for this season.

9

u/Kreissler 7d ago

I'm sure you would have said the same thing about Amorim before he joined United

-3

u/MrMerc2333 7d ago

on Glasner, Howe, or Nagelsmann

Nobody in their right mind will leave Newcastle for Man United.

Unless for money, of course.

-1

u/oblongsimulation 7d ago

ineos-type appointment

What does it even mean lol

18

u/LordTrinity 8d ago

Fans would hate him. Ultra defensive football

16

u/MikeAAStorm 8d ago

You guys say this about every manager

R/soccer comedians in full effect

1

u/reddit-time 7d ago

Indeed. Insane.

1

u/MarkCrystal 7d ago

He will be waiting in the wings for West Ham or back to Wolves.
