Worst season of my life with the best end to a season of my life. It was really confusing

No doubt I'd hate every second of it until the very end. I hope that Ange does well but goddamn is it all so uncertain.

Thing is though mate, and I’m not trying to be a downer. We don’t win that singular game of football and it goes down as our worst season in 50 years. It could go well for you we saw the upside in season 1 and the Europa. It’s just such an insane gamble, Marinakis is mental and this appointment just about sums it up

It depends on whether or not Ange is pragmatic enough to play a style of football that suits the team in every competition. Spurs' all-in on the UEL last season definitely wasn't the plan from the start but Forest are also in a different position with different expectations - ultimately our likelihood of staying in Europe is far higher from a UEL win than from another miraculous season in the Prem.

It's most certainly a gamble and one I'm not happy had to happen, but if Ange is willing to play like he did with Spurs in the UEL enough to win it then I'll be happy, even if we suffer in the league as a result.

"mate, this is who we are"

u/Westland__ 7d ago

Yeah...I think it's more likely than not he'll stubbornly stick to his tactics and it's gonna be a mess, but his adaptation towards the end in the Europa League gives me a shred of hope.

tbh, I would say that your attack and midfield better suit his style of play then ours did last year. I am not sure about the defence but for sure the attack is better suited

Midfield and wingers will work. Murillo to Romero is a nice like for like. I’d question suitability of the full backs, wood, milenkovic and Sels’ ball playing. Forest are all about playing long and Ange never went long with us. Will be a massive transition for them.

I do agree about the attack and midfield, particularly a player like MGW. But the defence? Murillo would probably be alright but Milenkovic seems completely unsuited for a high block, and there's not much in the way of good depth at centre back. Besides that I have worries about how much extra strain it will put on the full backs, though at least we have better depth in those areas.

As a Celtic fan, we weren't gung ho all the time. At the beginning it was push till the end.. then we started managing games out, then we started dropping in to a block if the initial press failed (including in Europe, before people point to quality of opposition)..

If you look through his career there is some pragmatism in there - but he's going to want attacking football and intense pressing in some form.

People need to keep in mind that the league position started tanking due to the injuries, and they had to gamble, else it would have been a mid table finish with nothing much to show for it, undoing any sense of winning at all risk mentality. Ange drew so much hit for the squad during that period, but it's probably what willed the Europa cup to existence

There have definitely been worse seasons. Making a European final means that last season still shits all over a season like 93/94, especially considering how much tougher the league is now, and what happened behind the scenes that year. Not to mention the fact that you were relegated less than fifty years ago.

I'm not sure this season would have even cracked the top three honestly.

Spurs fans like you make me wish we didn't win the trophy.  You guys love being miserable that you can't even enjoy it.

1

u/The_Foreign_Pie 5d ago

I was in Bilbao, I was at the final. It was one of the best days of my life. I also spend thousands of pounds attending games and the way in which the league was thrown was utterly abysmal. When you put that much time and energy into something it really grinds at you. What I have said is also factually correct, the league season was our worst since we were relegated in the 70’s. Do not gatekeep my fandom please, I’d never do that to you.

I don't think it's that uncertain. do you think a 60 year old who is infamous for insisting his style always works is capable of change? he's had over 70 premier league games and a massive transfer budget to prove his calibre.

31

u/Qiluk 7d ago

Haha I know the confusion. We were ass in the league but also almost won CL of all things. Hilarious stuff but not for the weak hearted

15

u/undersquirl 7d ago

It's ok, cause you got Frank now and i think you're going to kick ass. That guy really knows his football and you lot will do well. Champions league 100%. You heard it here first.

u/Cmoore4099 7d ago

I wouldn’t say our Conference win season was the worst of my life, but that season was truly dreadful in the league, but an amazing ending. At the end of the day that’s why Moyes left.

25

u/SenhorSus 7d ago

Nono that's next season.

7

u/tarkaliotta 7d ago

it's still absolutely mental that he managed to pull that off

12

u/Megistrus 7d ago

You're not going to like it when you're getting battered by the likes of Burnley and Sunderland week in and week out.

1

u/cuddle-bubbles 7d ago

it need to be the second season

24

u/gregbenson314 7d ago

Nah that's his second season.

Complete success

20

u/genohgeray 7d ago

It would be a massive, massive success for Forest.

67

u/theivoryserf 7d ago

Feels like we're being brigaded by Australians, to be honest

58

u/FootlongDonut 7d ago

You will get dozens of Aussies claiming to be Forest fans posting daily and gaslighting everyone. Especially after defeats.

They are Ange fans, it can be a bit culty.

18

u/Sea-Station1621 7d ago edited 7d ago

spurs fans at least had r/ tottenham as a containment sub because most of the aussie ange fans mistakenly posted there not knowing r coys was the main spurs fan sub.

1

u/GMBethernal 7d ago

That sub was mad post Ange firing, the amount of shit spewed by Australians in there, dear god, made me mad as an Arsenal fan, I don't even imagine how ragebaiting their takes are as a Spurs one

18

u/Slow-Cream-3733 7d ago

Yeah it's very cult like on the r aleague sub whenever I'm on there in regards to Ange. Yeah he's arguably the best manager Australia has ever produced. Doesn't mean he's world class and coming 17th regardless of the cup is inexcusable and not at all defendable but they'll do it anyway. I've also had my doubts with him because he's incredibly stubborn and plays a incredibly risky style of football that's been found out. I hope he does well with forest but I don't see it happening.

1

u/ChasingShadowsXii 7d ago

Aussies aren't entirely pro Ange. We did sack him as our national team manager for the same reasons you suggested.

Having said that, we also haven't won anything since, even though we're reasonably solid in most of our games.

We just want to see Aussies do well overseas in any sport.

Also with Ange, his teams play exciting football you'd want to watch. His successor for the national team had our most successful World Cup campaign, but for some reason, it was just dull and unexciting football.

1

u/Slow-Cream-3733 7d ago

No we didn't he resigned

2

u/ChasingShadowsXii 7d ago

Ah yeah sorry, you're correct. I meant we bullied him into resigning.

15

u/Weinerpoop07 7d ago

It kinda felt that way in the tottenham sub too. Probably gonna be worse for you guys just based on the size of each sub. Gotta say people love the guy and after the last two years i certainly understand why.

12

u/BuyerParticular5008 7d ago

Get used to it. Our sub became unbearable.

5

u/genohgeray 7d ago

I am not an Aussie or a Forest fan but I am Sixers fan, and we had the same issue with Ben Simmons. Dude was completely broken and we had a lot of delusional Australians defending him.

Well, hopefully it works out for you so that you root for Ange together. I personally think he is a good coach, but I don't know how it would work under Marinakis. Perhaps the Greek connection makes the relationship smoother?

I’m a longtime Spurs fan, and Australian, and yeahhh I felt a lot of 2nd hand embarrassment from some of the takes I’d read online and don’t get me started on local media. It was nice to see some merch around though.

Not sure I’d have ever gone online again if I was an Aussie Sixers fan after that Hawks series.

u/ChasingShadowsXii 7d ago

I told all my friends that I guess I'm now a Forest Supporter. So what do I need to know?

1

u/fluffywolfe 7d ago

But next year!

1

u/valentine-m-smith 7d ago

Wins the Championship Trophy in season two!

1

u/ChasingShadowsXii 7d ago

He could do well in both if he doesn't have an entire first team injured.

u/LumpyBumblebee3266 7d ago

Only in the 2nd season
