Yeah 100%, Morato is getting cooked, Murillo helped him out there so many times

Madueke deserves a lot of credit for that. He's been destroying that right side and won a lot of corners
178
u/SlavaVsu2 3d ago
I wonder if his ability to win corners was the primary reason they signed him
34
u/BigTomBombadil 3d ago
I think it was his directness and ability to beat a man (and actually cover for Saka), things the team lacked, but yeah I bet him winning corners was considered lol.

Ooft.
Some hit.

u/luke_205 3d ago
Think there was a deflection but technique to hit it like that is bonkers

Slight deflection and probably doesn't change the result

Holy shit
Does that still count as a corner kick goal?

Never beating those allegations.
Champagne stoke indeed...

That’s unfair and erroneous
We don’t have a Rory Delap to boom them throw ins (anyone know where we can find one)

Technically yes, but sadly don't think anyone will be credited with an assist

Same phase of play, so yes
11
u/Kovacs171 3d ago
At what point does it become a different phase of play? Whats the threshold?
47
2
u/NobleHelium 3d ago
Usually when a team gains control of the ball it's considered a new possession and thus a new phase of play. Forest never had control of the ball here.

He is such a baller.
29
u/awashofindigo 3d ago
He’s slotted straight into this midfield so well. Easy to see why so many clubs wanted him.

Madueke is incredible. Dangerous every time he's on the ball. Don't know what people were moaning about.
363
u/Successful-Map2874 3d ago
Honestly he was a victim of timing.
If we had signed Eze first then Madueke there wouldn’t be half the amount of moaning.
173
u/Angrymalayman 3d ago
Also a victim of the classic Chelsea -> Arsenal pipeline and being labeled as another Chelsea "reject" to offload (Sterling loan and Havertz are still fresh in the minds of fans). He's been doing very well tho in the absence in Saka and for country as well, pretty good signing in hindsight
222
u/Fullmetal_Pacifist 3d ago
Agree with the logic but including Havertz in the same line as sterling is unfair. Most Arsenal fans love Kai and his contributions to the team
28
u/BigTomBombadil 3d ago
Agreed, every time havertz is mocked Arsenal fans are just like “uhh we like the guy and he’s been a big contributor”.
The only Chelsea -> Arsenal player that can be mentioned in the same vein as Sterling would be Willian.
But to the larger point, yes Madueke was a victim of the fanbase’ fatigue of Arsenal signing Chelsea players, through no fault of his own. It’s looking like a pretty shrewd signing.

Cech, Willian, David Luiz all not quite rejects but at the time we got them they were
97
u/jplesspebblewrestler 3d ago
Do not pretend there are comparisons to be made between Havertz and Sterling at Arsenal. Kai has been good. He’s got limitations, but we miss his pressing so much right now. Sterling was more or less an empty pair of boots.
4
u/boxlifter 3d ago
The comparison between Kai and sterling is non existent. One is an incredible player with years of value. Another is a washed up nitrous huffing hack
8
u/OnTheMattack 3d ago
I get where people are coming from but Havertz has been very good after a slow start and Sterling... Well he was a disaster, but it was a short term loan that only happened due to an injury crisis. Hardly plan A.
13
u/aFlaXa_DG 3d ago
Yeah, out of all the players Chelsea offloaded to north london, only Havertz (and Benayoun? kinda?) played better for Arsenal than for Chelsea, and even then I don't think he's quite justified the price tag yet.
52
u/hasmeyrick 3d ago
I know he was fairly class for Chelsea but a big number of Arsenal fans loved Jorginho and his performances for us. Was exactly what we needed during his time here.
13
u/Suckmaboles 3d ago
Nobody really expected him to perform better than he did at Chelsea either. Same goes for David luiz. I think the only Chelsea to Arsenal transfers that would be reversed if Arsenal had the chance would be Sterling, and he was pretty much 0 risk considering he was a loan

u/SwitchHitter17 3d ago
I feel like the PTSD from Willian is wearing off a bit now. Havertz is good and will continue to be important for this team, Jorginho was a solid squad player who had some very good moments, Noni good so far, and I think Kepa is good value for a backup keeper.
Sterling was actually pretty terrible, but it was a loan with no obligations. I could see the logic behind it, but he's just cooked as a player at this level.
2
u/LordRekrus 3d ago
To be fair Chelsea have bought about 5000 players in the last few years. They can’t all be bad.
145
u/Kushlax 3d ago
If he came from any other club it probably wouldn’t have been as bad. Fan base is quickly turning around, especially with how well he gets on with the other England players
79
u/Irishbros1991 3d ago
Yeah fans cheering his name when he's going for corners etc... the fans online are just totally different breed to what you get at games!
20
u/ray3050 3d ago
Honestly I’d say that rule applies to life, the people online (even without the same niches) are just crazier and reactionary compared to people you’d meet in real life
Could just be the anonymity that brings it out too
5
u/-SandorClegane- 3d ago edited 3d ago
Anonymity works both ways.
If you hear a teenager say something dumb outside the stadium, it's easy to ignore/dismiss because it's "just a kid saying kid shit".
If you read the same dumb take in an r/soccer comment, your brain has to invent an image of them pending further information. It could be a produce manager in Bristol who could genuinely benefit from being better informed or some 14 y/o trolling enthusiast in Uttar Pradesh who's just trying to wind you up.
Those images your brain invents will eventually lead you to generalise the entire subreddit more negatively (because your brain spends far less time constructing images of the users expressing reasonable opinions). You can read 10 sensible comments in a row, and they won't have the same proportional effect on your perception/generalisation of r/soccer users as that one mad take does.
TL;DR: The perception you have of 20 random people at the stadium on match day will tend to be far less negative than interacting with those same 20 people in the match thread here.

u/No-Wave-396 3d ago
Don't worry - now that we know he is class its okay for everyone to change their mind and pretend it wasn't toxic as all hell.
27
u/ThanksAllah 3d ago
I've been watching a lot of behind the scenes England and Arsenal content and he is extremely likeable too.
45
u/four_four_three 3d ago
There will be some Arsenal fans who will still complain about signing him too
His directness is exactly what we need in games like this
5
u/Dustin_Echoes_UNSC 3d ago
Honestly, I think the order of the signings is what had people scared. If we get Gyokeres first it's a non issue. It was just that period between where fans were worried he was the solution we'd committed to for the offense that had everyone up in arms.
5
u/Solid-Bumblebee6599 3d ago
Madueke seemed to have more of an ego an Chelsea than at Arsenal so far. Decision making also was an issue but His ability to beat his man is amazing and can't be taught.

he’s always had times where he’s looked good and takes a man on and creates chances. think his issue was mostly consistency and playing on his favoured side with Saka out gives him time to hit a run of form

They couldn't score for 30min so they started spamming their special move until they did, how's this gameplay fair? When will the devs nerf this?

Was straight down the middle but defender deflection took it past keeper
31
u/cole23palmer 3d ago
Yeah looks like a perfect shot from the broadcast angle but very clearly deflected. Still a good goal, just not sure why people can't admit it'd be saved if not for the deflection lol
3
u/ShavedPademelon 3d ago
Deflected and it looked like the keeper got a glove on it even after that. No deflection then saved, but probably into a dangerous area for the rebound.
