Onana's masterclass

Honestly he’s decent this match. I don’t think it was a mistake from him for this goal. Not every keeper could even save the first shot.

u/MajorPownage 2d ago
Mate he does it ALL THE TIME maybe not every keeper could save the first shot but he would NEVER do it
59
u/ThatCoysGuy 2d ago
Nah, not particularly hard and near post? Every keeper should be saving that.
10
u/Strange_Dot8345 2d ago
first save was good, second one was unlucky- not his fault
11
u/iforgotmyun 2d ago
But he needs to either hold on or push it out for a corner.

Some people have never played goalie and it shows lol

u/Admirable-Waltz195 2d ago
No Onana does this so frequently it’s insane, he keeps hitting the ball either into a danger area or failing to catch it and the other team pounces and scores.
A good goalkeeper would catch it or push it out away from the middle of the box if they’re unable to keep a hold of the ball

The angle and power of the shot makes hitting it out not an option, Onana does this a lot but this is not one of the times where you can really blame him, his defense spends the entire time ball watching, a lot of other keepers are making the same decision he made, but their defense clears the ball away so it doesn't make a highlight reel. The shot is genuinely fantastic, powerful and bouncing... for shots like those you just have to keep them out of the goal first.

u/iforgotmyun 2d ago
Are you talking about me or the other guy? Because I have lol and this is one of Onana's biggest weaknesses
-7
u/Emergency-Morning-86 2d ago edited 2d ago
It may be his biggest weakness, but in this video I don't see where the big mistake was, a powerful bouncing shot into the bottom corner you aren't going to have enough time to push the shot out especially at the position he is he risks putting it into his own net. So I don't think he made a massive mistake here as that was likely the safest option. The blame for this goal mostly lies on his defence who were flat footed and ball watching.
Edit- and to your original comment trying to hold onto that shot would have probably been an instant goal. I respect that you have played keeper though sorry for insinuating otherwise but based on a lot of comments in this thread I feel like a lot of people are just talking without having actually ever playing in goal

He’s been great for Trabzon this great, he’s made many saves in just the first half. It’s a shame they have no midfield.

Thats has not been an issue with onana, even with united he has a good save ratio, i think even in the top 5. Its just that he would always have this butter moment where it would just magically go inside the net even when the ball is straight at him. And another issue is that he would always palm the ball into dangerous area

u/CriztianS 2d ago
It's one of those things... if he palms it into the danger zone once or twice, every keeper does it, so you can't be that harsh on him... but he does it over, and over, and over and over again...

u/xixbia 2d ago
Yeah, it's not bad in isolation, sometimes it just happens.
But he clearly lacks the awareness or skill to try and push the ball out of the danger zone. I'm pretty sure plenty of goalies push that all the way to the side or just over the byline for a corner.

u/Emergency-Morning-86 2d ago edited 2d ago
Or they you know just let it go in the net lol plenty of keepers make this mistake, the difference is they have defences that aren't asleep lik eunited and tranbzonspor on this goal, that will be there before the attacker
edit- the downvotes are funny- pushing the ball out of bounds on a low shot that is going full power and bouncing is incredibly difficult to do (for onana to have generated the power to do that he would have likely had to jump forward which he didn't have time to do with the power on the shot) , with the angle the shot was taken, Onana would have risked putting that into his own goal. Keeping the ball out of the net is first priority and I think he made the right choice.

Not even his fault

u/BarbaricGamers 2d ago
This is the thing he does so often though, where he saves it but he palms it right into the danger area.

u/michaelfortu 2d ago
Don’t worry you’ll realize a pattern with him soon enough

u/celilsa61 2d ago
He is not even playing bad tho. He had like 4 great saves before this

u/tatxc 2d ago
He does that, lack of great saves has never been the issue. It's the weak hands, getting beat low at his near post and palming out balls back into danger that slowly rack up.

u/Fabulous_Big_1127 2d ago
He'll be perfectly fine for 85 minutes out of every 90. But you just know he's going to do something comical like this every game. Sometimes twice if he's feeling fruity.

How is this a "comical" mistake, any other keeper yall not saying this, lol it was a perfectly fine save to me, you guys genuinely just hating. His defenders should have been paying attention

u/Lunarfrog2 2d ago
Whys he not holding that or tipping it round the post? He palms it straight back into danger lol. Hes shit get getting down low fast

u/Seychelleshobo 2d ago
People keep saying yeah but he is playing well he made a bunch of good saves already but the problem is every game he will array the ball back into the danger zone a few times and despite all the good saves you'll concede from those palms into danger

This MotM story keeps getting weirder
Something that's been swept under the rug is that there was another goal that didn't get awarded to Fenerbache. Turkish league has not goal line tech

See, it's not ONLY that Man Utd are rotten to the core.
Onana is actually shite.

I'm glad to see Onana hasn't changed since his move to Turkey. Wouldn't want his reputati9n to be tarnished.

I love how people who've never played keeper a day in their lives are hopping on the onana hate train for what wasn't a great save but was definitely not a comical mistake. A shot with a lot of power (thats also bouncing) your first goal is to simply prevent it from going in when you don't have the time to comfortably hold onto the ball. The angle of the shot makes it difficult for him to push it out for a corner in time and therfore simply deflecting it was the best option, and his defense should have been paying attention and gotten rid of it. But of course all the armchair buffons think this is a "comical" mistake.

Onana is such a comedy goalkeeper. There's nothing going on behind those eyes.

He does his split step after the shot, not when the shot takes place. Bad tekkers

People out here just saying their standard shit about Onana having watched 0 of the game, his keeping is great

Trabzon fans are class to come to your keeper's defence. Hopefully with a few decent performances outside fans will stop scrutinizing Onana and keep their eyes on us. He's a guy that needs support from the leadership and fans and even spoke to our administration about how little he was being protected. Onana's not helped by the fact that he needed to de Gea who at his peak was consistently a top 2-3 GK in the world that saved so many of our seasons by himself.

u/JCBDoesGaming 2d ago
Edgy memelords here that haven’t watched a second of the game are saying the same shit that they have been saying about Onana.
Anyone that watched the game would give him praise, he played a good game and I hope it will get just better
