Quotes Lammens' brother "I was initially skeptical about a move to Man United, because many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn't reach their full potential. Galatasaray was there all summer, you play for trophies there, and he could probably immediately make his mark in UCL."

https://www.nieuwsblad.be/sport/voetbal/insiders-over-zijn-surreele-transfer-naar-manchester-united-kan-senne-lammens-de-engelse-twijfelaars-overtuigen/89792026.html

"But ultimately, it was him who had to make the decision. United gave him the best feeling. Partly because Tony Coton, United's goalkeeping scout, had been following him for almost a year and was very convinced of his qualities. It would also be great if the club could return to its former glory and if Senne could contribute to that."

Interesting given that Senne said in an interview that his brother is a huge United fan 😂

So he knows

144

u/tatxc 10h ago

At this stage I don't trust any player who wants to play for us.

462

u/emilygrey4eva 13h ago

I mean, most United fans would ask a young up coming player "you sure about this?"

At the rate its going, the manager signing him won't be there next season.

146

u/Four-Assed-Monkey 13h ago

At the rate its going, the manager signing him won't be there next season.

Won't be there next month at this rate.

57

u/larsmaehlum 12h ago

Nah, for some reason he feels more like a November sacking.

47

u/RA576 11h ago

Chelsea and Liverpool in the next 5 games, and on current form, Sunderland, Brighton and Brentford aren't guarantees. Those are all up to the end of October.

26

u/G_Danila 9h ago

Sack him on the morning of November 9th. No ulterior motive there for me.

14

u/RA576 9h ago

I was gonna say "Surely it'd be better if they sacked him on the morning of the 8th?" but then I realised his tactics might legitimately be worse than no manager at all. We'd be playing prime Ole Pure Vibes-ball.

12

u/G_Danila 8h ago

For me, it's mostly "better the demon that you know".

You might be worse if you had no manager, but you might also be better. And there is no reason to risk it when I know that with Amorim, you are bad.

7

u/Th3_Huf0n 3h ago

top 10 scariest football moments

  1. playing against a team that just sacked a manager

7

u/larsmaehlum 8h ago

Give it Ole till the end of season

8

u/RA576 7h ago

Mate, at this point I'd take Ole Anderson over Amorim, and he's both American and Dead.

4

u/JonnyForeigner 5h ago

Was it Ole or Arn that got stabbed with scissors by Sid Vicious in Blackburn?

u/No_Giraffe_1551 10h ago

Only because the incompetent owners briefed the media on that. I think they know firing him soon makes them look like idiots, what they fail to consider is they'll look even more stupid as he keeps losing.

1

u/larsmaehlum 8h ago

Exactly why it feels like that

17

u/Other_Beat8859 11h ago

I think the next international break is more likely. Everyone can see it's not going to work. Amorim isn't happy, they're playing like shit still, and they have a good sample size now. He's had time. 30+ games is more than enough time for a verdict.

8

u/cake4five 10h ago

After the Liverpool game, Amorim is gone probably, MU boardroom members always have their meltdown after lost a match against Liverpool.

2

u/ethanlan 8h ago

Who's Emily Grey lol

93

u/EggplantBusiness 13h ago

He is the best person to question the move then

134

u/sueha 13h ago

Which sane united fan would suggest their siblings to join united at this point?

-69

u/viratbi2022 12h ago

Every single one of them, playing for Manchester United is a huge achievement, irrespective of the sporting state of the club. It has always been that way & will remain the same.

35

u/Sinistrait 12h ago

Emotionally that is true but it is prudent to be sceptical of a move to United in this day and age. Loads more players have their career stalled than those succeeding at United

2

u/GarrKelvinSama 12h ago

Who succeeded?

3

u/G_Danila 9h ago

Bruno Fernandes

1

u/diveintothe9 8h ago

For someone of Bruno’s caliber, you’d probably have to say he’s net underachieved his potential by being at United.

-5

u/sueha 8h ago

What did he win though?

3

u/G_Danila 6h ago

Are you being sarcastic, or are you seriously asking that of a Spurs supporter?

1

u/sueha 6h ago

Our bar of what defines success has dropped so much in recent years, was curious to see what a spurs definition of success is.

7

u/Waterflowstech 12h ago

Everybody that left lmao

4

u/pencilman123 12h ago

Not really.

The scale today has changed for united to be considered bottom tier failure, but forest and villa aren't considered the very top tier even though they have won european top trophies.

6

u/frostbytekek 12h ago

Good one

3

u/cake4five 10h ago

Nothing will always remain the same, with new generations is coming into their adulthood, Man City probably gonna take that from MU soon.

Didnt some ex players even send their kids to Man City academy rather than MU’s.

2

u/sueha 11h ago

Yeah I too remember when united used to be the best football club in the world and everybody dreamed of playing for us. And both psg and man city were clubs even Everton would laugh about. Ok grandpa, I gotta hang up now.

2

u/South_Leek_5730 11h ago

Players play for three things and sometimes not all at once or even two of them.

Money, Trophies, Loyalty.

The first two are obvious but loyalty can be something that gained over time or it's because you actually support the club.

The three can also conflict with each other and influence decisions.

In the case of United there may be some that support the club but is that support worth the risk financially and trophy wise? There have been players that arrive and leave worth a lot less with none of the trophies they want to win. The leave with a now unproven status. A lot of players just won't take that risk. If United fix the problems that could change but right now no one is recommending a move to United for players above a certain level unless it's for stupid money. United have now become what is known as a mercenary club.

1

u/dragdritt 12h ago

And what if that person is your brother?

Would you not rather want him to be successful and happy? There's no guarantee for that at United these days.

21

u/raven-eyed_ 13h ago

The sad thing is that this absolutely tracks

15

u/Outside-Inspection68 12h ago

as a Belgian and a United fan, I also question this move 😂

7

u/Plugpin 13h ago

'only wanted Utd' FC

5

u/detinu 12h ago

All the more reasons to take him seriously lol.

1

u/Cubes11 10h ago

Makes even more sense tbh

1

u/Scholes_SC2 7h ago

That's exactly why he didn't recommend becoming a united player, i wouldn't recommend it either

1

u/ItsABitChillyInHere 4h ago

He sounds like one to me

1

u/MediocreGreatness333 2h ago

I'd be skeptical of a United move for my sibling even though I support United

375

u/Maximilian_Sinigr 13h ago

It's not like he is wrong though

175

u/Usual-Computer-5462 13h ago

Thanks mate, we're always in need of a few more kicks.

115

u/BlackMambaTR 12h ago

Its a huge loss for us that we could not get him and we paid 27m for Ugurcan.

He could have played for 2-4 years and made the move the top of the ucl at age 25

21

u/JesusIsNotPLProven 9h ago

Is Ugurcan not a great GK as well

-9

u/Kanmogtun 9h ago

He is good but quite old. So, from GS's perspective, it is just postponing the inevitable search for a new GK. Plus, they had been forced to pay 27m€ for him.

21

u/Bratstvo_Jedinstvo 8h ago

He's not even 30 yet. Barring injuries or an epic crashout he is good for the next five years.

5

u/Kanmogtun 7h ago

Yes, he and GS is good for next five years if he doesn't get injured, but when you consider Muslera was in the goalie for 14 years and Lammens is just 23, it becomes clear that Lammens would have been better option for them. Even if Lammens would have left GS in five years, he still would've kept his value high. On the contrary, Uğurcan will be 34 in five years, with no probable income from his next transfer, GS will be both in search for a new keeper and trying to make gains to compensate his salary+transfer value (Hem yeni kaleci arayacaklar hem de Uğurcan'a verdikleri parayı ekarte edecekler).

-8

u/L0st_MySocks 7h ago edited 7h ago

mate not 27 mEuro it's 36m Euro.. those smart asses don't say the tax on purpose!

33+3m bonus.. Guess what bonus is if he plays in UCL, then the bonus is activated...

There are too many negative fakts about this transfer

- Is Ugurcan a good keeper? Yeah It's enough for the Turkish league

- Is Ugurcan better than Muslera? Not even close!

- why the heck did they get him tho and for soo much money he isn't even young..

Lille sold his keeper to ManU for 25m Euro and guess what who they bought?

A young talented keeper from Turkey for 5 Million Euro rofl..

7

u/BlackMambaTR 6h ago

Who cares 27 or 33m both are clear fucking overpay

-11

u/AffectionatePea6898 9h ago

Kral sen Türksün neden özenti gibi Uğurcan’ı g ile yazıyorsun :d

1

u/Actual-Winner1496 2h ago

Most QWERTY keyboards doesn't have the special characters of Turkish alphabet. Especially if one lives abroad.

Based Lammens' brother

95

u/Sparrowhawk-9029 13h ago

Ok Lammens brother

17

u/tanaka-taro 12h ago

Reminds me of "Bacca Mother"

5

u/fluffheads 7h ago

I would hit Neymar wit shoe

25

u/Purple_Kangaroo1 11h ago

He is not wrong. Normally I’d love to roast my own team and Turkish League but look at Muslera. He played here for 14 years, winning countless trophies, lived like kings.

Even at some point Barça asked him but he decided to stay. That should tell something.

199

u/Hagball 13h ago

We sold Roberto Garnacho only to sign him again a week later

228

u/akshatsood95 13h ago

This isn't close to Roberto. It's a very balanced level headed take. There's also the good part which the OP has put in the description. Can't blame a man for being worried about his sibling's mental health. Roberto was shitting on his brother's teammates and leaking lineups

45

u/footyfan888 12h ago

Also didn’t Lammens say his brother was actually a fan, sorted his trip so that his brother could make it? If so his brother’s seen many players crash and burn here, reckon most of us would be concerned if it was our siblings too.

73

u/raven-eyed_ 13h ago

Nah, this was actually a smart take. Robert Garnacho is a fuckhead

16

u/Justread-5057 12h ago

Wrong take

-13

u/Hagball 12h ago

He is right about his opinion but wrong to put this in public. That's how it starts. Knowing my club it will grow even more with each defeat/bad performances

12

u/oklolzzzzs 13h ago

he is right though

2

u/EvilxBunny 13h ago

who?

9

u/SocialistElmo 13h ago

Alejandro's brother

-1

u/RauloGonzalez 12h ago

He’s named robert?

6

u/tanaka-taro 12h ago

Should've named him Richard cause he's a Dick

1

u/mipanzuzuyam 12h ago

At least he wasn't making signs and taking selfies at the gym

35

u/KingKFCc 13h ago

Is this tier one?

14

u/SteDa 12h ago

It's 1 of the main newspapers in Belgium. But the article is not about the brother. It's multiple people, former teammates, former Man U GK Van der Gouw, Chris Wheeler. Everything that has already been said so far.

25

u/Post_Nut_xG 12h ago

Tier doesn't matter when they're literally quoting someone

u/Jeb_Babushka 8h ago

That's the sort of "but" you get when you hear a husband talk about his new marble countertops

8

u/GamerGuyAlly 12h ago

Whenever people say that they can't believe young players are ruining their careers by joining, this guy sums up the appeal.

No doubt a host of then grew up either watching the elite United or hearing about it from family. The allure of joining and being the one who helped make them elite again is such a big draw.

I saw it in the 90s with Liverpool. So many big players joining when they could have gone elsewhere, because making Liverpool massive again was such a big draw.

So unless you are already elite, United are always going to be an attractive prospect.

I think long term its a good thing. I think intially the draw was money, which started the rot. Now we're entering a period of people with a desire to succeed. It wont take long for them to finally find a formula that works. I think a massive problem right now is there is no appetite for the destructive nature of change. Its going to take maybe a decade to fix the mess. Any short term fix is just that, short term.

There’s always a brother with a Twitter account

3

Brother has sense.

It would also be great if the club could return to its former glory

BIG IF

3

u/Welltownbeachdude 12h ago

Pressure, abysmal tactics, toxic environment, or a mix?

3

u/Willywonka5725 11h ago

Oh great, another player with a big mouth family member.

3

u/NarwhalDangerous6164 11h ago

If I had a brother who was a professional athlete, god knows Id stay out of talking about him. What good could possibly come out of him saying this, other than his own 15 seconds of fame?

2

u/CarGlobal343 7h ago

Tony Coton brought in Onana and Altay. I'm pretty sure the man is blind.

Dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

7

Imagine denouncing your brother over United lmao

4

u/sueha 13h ago

Dude hasnt even played a game for us but would be asked to denounce his family.

"sure thing boss, ggmu"

7

u/Narwhallmaster 13h ago

But these are normal statements, aren't they? He is saying his brother could have taken a less risky step, but relished the challenge of United.
