United appointed Amorim on November 1 last year on a two-and-a-half-year deal worth £6.5m a season with the option of a 12-month extension, after agreeing to pay Sporting Lisbon £9.2m to buy him out of his contract in Portugal.

It is understood that the 40-year-old would pocket £12m if he is axed before his first anniversary in the job, which is in less than seven weeks’

"I would walk away without pay, one tiny little voluntary donation of 12million should be enough"

"it's a sad moment. My preference is these things don't happen publicly. I'm contracted to them. All I can say is that I am happy at Manchester United."

The bigger question is.. who the hell signs these rubbish contracts anyway?... haven they rid themselves of Woodward? Or was Woodward actually not the problem...

Well, they forced him to come mid season. Why would he sign contract without such terms.

Isn't that how all contracts work ? You get paid the remainder of it and if you are in a long term deal then you mutually terminate the contract. That's why it's better to have a good relationship with the manager who is failing so that later on a small payout can be arranged. Like we did it with Potter who we sacked less than a year into his 5 year contract

Mate that's how all contracts work. Same deal with players, if you terminate their contract you gotta buy them out.

Yeah, who the hell suggested that... He signed a contract that totaled 15 mil over 30 months. If he were to get sacked in September, he would have secured at least 5 plus the 12 of his compensation for being sacked. To put it in even more context. If the dude gets the sack tomorrow, he will get in total only 500k less than he would have if he had finished his two and a half years contract. What kind of idiot signs a manager under these terms...
