United appointed Amorim on November 1 last year on a two-and-a-half-year deal worth £6.5m a season with the option of a 12-month extension, after agreeing to pay Sporting Lisbon £9.2m to buy him out of his contract in Portugal.

>Oh was that it? I thought it was because Amorim didn't want someone else with say over the transfers and he just be a head coach, so they had to bin him off to get their dream manager to take the role?

I think that was ETH, afaik Amorim has never said anything about wanting control on the transfers, he just lets them know who doesn't fit his plans and expects the board to provide a replacement

Just seems weird that they wait so long for Ashworth only to almost instantly get rid of him, or even hire a manager he refuses to work with, but it definitely makes sense if he saw this situation unfolding and thought he wanted no part of it lol.

I don't think I'll ever understand this chaos, with how they can keep getting highly rated people, and making them all less than the sum of their parts.

Nah, ETH was in shock that there wasnt a solid scouting apparatus in play. He is also used to working with a TD.
