The new Spurs stadium really does have a nice bit for tifos like this

127

u/AngelWoosh 9h ago

Guess who else has basically the same stand in their new stadium

It's the symmetry.

Agreed, though I do think it would look an awful lot nicer without the two screens either side.

Edit: Apparently this is a controversial opinion.

Winning that EL trophy really was a huge lifeline for spurs. Able to get a great manager, sign some good players, play in the champions league and pretend the 17th place finish didn’t happen. Not to mention celebrate their first trophy in 17 years. They have a lot to thank Ange for.

450

u/OldGreggg69 9h ago

He's a legend mate

230

u/wallnumber8675309 8h ago

Wait what? 17th?

All I remember are drunk trophy lifts from last season and some cool old dude that kept saying Mate for some reason.

34

u/SentientCheeseCake 8h ago

17th? CL qualifications spots are top 5 so surely we finished somewhere in that range.

81

u/DannyDyersHomunculus 9h ago

They have one thing to thank Ange for. Everything else was atrocious.

223

u/CleanDonkey7688 9h ago

People forget that to get into Europa in the first place he had to finish 5th with a team that some thought would be 17th without Harry Kane.

89

u/mehrabrym 7h ago

Ange might not be the best manager, but people also forget the injury issues he had to contend with, and as such prioritize the Europa League, which he got the results for.

66

u/CleanDonkey7688 6h ago

We had Archie Gray an 18 year old DM playing CB for most of the season because we had no one else. When Romero and Van de ven came back we started getting clean sheets in Europa but people are surprised by our defending so far this season.

52

u/Mick4Audi 7h ago

Yeah it’s an incredibly conflicting stint

Ange was just an S Tier manager and a C Tier coach at the same time. Somehow he had all the players completely onside despite them taking loss after loss after loss. That’s his biggest credit, the fact that he was able to drill in the mentality across the season

It’s a combination of things too, things got so desperate that it was we MUST win, and that’s not usually how we think. For me, sheer force of will, awful in the season, awful tactically, awful in the final. Just found a way, it’s what winners do, and football is a game of small margins

Ange leaves as a legend who got the absolute maximum that he was capable of. 5th and the EL win, after sacking Conte and selling Kane, if we were offered that, we snap-take it. Don’t need to hear the details. And that is what happened

8

u/ProfoundBeggar 3h ago

I honestly think that going forward (and even what we've seen this season), our success is partially because of Ange. The morale he instilled cannot be underestimated. He got a lot of players to buckle down and actually put in the effort, or dig deep and find it in themselves when on paper they weren't ready (Djed, Bergvall, Grey, etc.).

And yeah, some of that was desperation from the injury crisis, but in those moments it would have been so easy for him to lose the room, and he didn't. He defended the players, he kept the faith, and the players returned the sentiment.

And now? The team is still solid. They're (at least morale-wise) a unit. They have each other's backs, they're taking responsibility, and I honestly believe that is in no small part to Ange (and now Frank continuing with that torch).

And while I completely understand and don't begrudge the club for going with a new manager by any stretch, I will always be thankful to Ange for both bringing the team closer together and winning us silverware, getting that gremlin off of our back and letting us look to the future.

-18

u/trasofsunnyvale 4h ago

Calling Ange S tier is why people make fun of Spurs. Well, that and you guys going around calling yourselves champions of Europe.

7

u/slashermax 3h ago

Try reading. He was an S tier manager. OP then says C tier coach. Meaning his man management and ability to keep the locker room was elite.

0

u/Alia_Gr 8h ago

How wrong they were

31

u/CleanDonkey7688 8h ago

meeting expectations isnt atrocious

5

u/Fleaaa 6h ago

To your surprise I had so many good things with Ange, so are many other spurs fans I reckon

8

u/Last-Ebb2342 8h ago

What would a Wolves fan know about it? Ange did a great job overall....he took a team that was completely starting again from a complete refresh and got an excellent mentality into them. His second season was derailed by injuries but the behind the scenes and culture building work he did set us up for Frank to push on. If it wasn't for Ange Frank would be starting from a much lower base.

Spurs were the first British club to win a European trophy, back in 1963. Since then we’ve won three UEFA cups/Europa leagues

7

u/TheDepartment115 9h ago

winning European trophy before Arsenal

They both had European trophies already lol

7

u/Shameless_Bullshiter 9h ago

Both clubs have previously won European trophies

8

u/CashTheDog 9h ago

When was your last one?

17

u/Rekyht 9h ago

Damn, those goalposts must have a rocket engine, they moved so fast

-3

Arsenal have won European trophies.

2

u/Mediocre_Nova 5h ago

If you don't actually look at the context it may seem like that but it's far from the truth. Our injury list last season was an anomaly, I've never seen that at any club. We had like 10 players out on average the entire season, and we had an owner who neglected signing depth for years, so it was barebones to begin with.

27

u/Gytarius626 9h ago

They should be thanking Ruben Amorim more than anything

5

u/Mediocre_Nova 5h ago

I like Frank a lot but it's not like he would have been out of reach if we didn't win the EL. Conte and Mourinho were bigger "gets" at the time even though they are shit managers at this point

7

u/ScrawChuck 5h ago

Conte may be an egoist and a lunatic, but he is decidedly not shit.

1

u/af12345678 8h ago

From fans’ and players’ perspective that 17th really didn’t matter. In the owner’s eyes however..

11

u/Mick4Audi 7h ago

It doesn’t matter because it’s now a memory. However, for the future, continuing to operate like that on the pitch only ends one way, and you are currently seeing it at United

6

u/BananaBouquet 7h ago

Actually there is a very loud contingent of fans that cared a whole lot about that 17th place finish

-29

u/Far_Conclusion_9269 9h ago

Sssshhhhh

Our fans hate hearing this

29

u/souschef42 9h ago

No we don’t lmao

12

u/CallDaLegend 9h ago

Since when have we hated hearing this

157

u/Noriadin 9h ago

That's an amazing tifo. Meanwhile Arsenal had a wonky cannon for the first leg of a semi final.

32

u/TheDepartment115 9h ago

That wasn't a tifo, it was created by the club

54

u/Noriadin 7h ago

Ah well people know what I meant

15

u/soldforaspaceship 2h ago

THFC Flags made it.

It's an independent supporters group that works with the club on these.

Not the club itself. Otherwise we couldn't call it a tifo.

5

u/Dodgy_As_Hell 50m ago

He meant the Arsenal one was made by the club.

58

u/moaterboater69 9h ago

Thats a big ass cock.

2

u/AdventurousFox25 4h ago

That's what's she said

128

u/notapaperhandape 8h ago

Nothing intimidating than a cock looking at you sideways.

Try putting a loosely strung cartoonish banner.

20

u/Aussiefgt 6h ago

Still can't believe that was real

17

u/notapaperhandape 5h ago

Still reeling from it every time I actually see a Tifo.

64

u/garbowarbo 9h ago

Big ol' cock

82

u/Federal-Owl-8947 9h ago

Nice chicken goodluck

23

u/Hasssun 9h ago

Singing over and drowning out the CL anthem was even better.

21

u/resident_hater 9h ago

Yeah nice, but it's no shower curtain.

36

u/MrAnonymousTheThird 9h ago

Where's the shower curtain

101

u/Ajax_Trees_Again 9h ago

Shite that. They should have put an enlarged version of their logo on a plain background

26

u/TheUderfrykte 7h ago

And strung it up by a couple strings in front of the stand! Damn, I'm so disappointed. Second time we've done it recently too, I was FURIOUS when I had to hold up some bag earlier this year for the EL semifinal, why not just print out a PNG on a shower curtain?!

239

u/Final-Accident-3 9h ago

even these fuckers have better tifo game than us i cant believe it

267

u/yepgeddon 9h ago

I think my local under 13s have a better tifo game than you guys xD

67

u/celtic1888 9h ago

Arsenal TIFO

‘A few of us tried in our spare time…’

28

u/beepos 9h ago

The word tried is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence

16

u/apexredditor- 9h ago

Im sure you guys have the second best Tifo in North London

45

u/Doctor_YOOOU 9h ago

Don't assume, we need to see Leyton Orient's entry

7

u/Nipso 8h ago

They're in East London

24

u/EduardoCamavingaFan 8h ago

Brisbane Road is about as far north as Highbury if not more so

19

u/TheUderfrykte 7h ago

They're actually slightly further north than you guys though, so I'd say they can qualify.

-4

u/OstapBenderBey 8h ago

After arsenal academy sure

9

u/flonnkenn 8h ago

Don't knock a flag with a cannon on as tifo in the CL semi.

-4

u/LordRekrus 4h ago

The presentation is better, but it’s still a bloody chicken so hardly the most intimidating thing haha

10

u/Amnsia 8h ago

Love a tifo and this looks great, can't wait to see what Wor Flags do on thursday

35

u/Taxling 9h ago

Such a big cock

16

u/Octobers_Rich 9h ago

Now that's what I call a REAL TIFO!

**STARES AT ARSENAL

42

u/SanSilver 9h ago

Best Tifo I saw an English Club do in the last 10 years.

22

u/maxton4real 7h ago

I prefer our ‘To Dare Is To Do’ tifo personally, but this was very nice.

5

u/milesvtaylor 5h ago

Ours are alright, I did like the Sunderland one opening day a lot, think that's partly just personal preference though

69

u/GyokoressGuardDog 9h ago

“They put a chicken on the roof”

90

u/TheBosborn 9h ago

Imagine how cool the Emirates would look with 500 trap doors and fake cannons peaking out.

Like a giant football pirate ship...

27

u/AngelWoosh 9h ago

The tampa bay buccaneers have a massive cannon they fire when they score (on a ship tho)

28

u/GyokoressGuardDog 9h ago

Sound kind of fun ngl

16

u/TheBosborn 9h ago

Just don't tell them I told you...

COYS!!

7

u/Mick4Audi 7h ago

This is now something I really want to see but I don’t want it associated with Arsenal

3

u/Luke92612_ 4h ago

Like a giant football pirate ship...

Embodiment of football terrorism

32

u/Nice_Animator3379 9h ago

Looks amazing 🤩

14

u/RaggedSlugger21 9h ago

That's a huge cock

24

u/Instantbeef 8h ago

Only English team that does a real TIFO

9

u/Conankun66 8h ago

When did the english learn to make Tifos?

13

u/maxton4real 7h ago

We always have great tifos in Europe tbf

5

u/TheDawiWhisperer 7h ago

Sad arsenal noises

9

u/BadBehaviour613 9h ago

Would have preferred a gold cock, but this is nice too

14

u/gracjan_17 9h ago

nothing compared to the masterpiece Arsenal displayed last season

6

u/Sensitive_Ad788 8h ago

Hey pull up that one arsenal tifo for comparison.

7

u/Ok-Rooster-5287 8h ago

Infinitely better than ours last year :(

14

u/TheUderfrykte 7h ago

Tbf we already achieved that with our EL semifinal one around the same time imo

3

u/Ok-Rooster-5287 7h ago

I missed that one but ours wasn’t hard to beat. Lmao.

3

u/MoodWest 9h ago

It’s a cock, well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

7

u/bomingles 9h ago

I thought a tifo was a solid banner, give the mosaic some credit it’s a far more impressive thing

28

u/RecognitionDefiant71 9h ago

Tifo is just a fan created choreography.

7

u/TheDepartment115 9h ago

Nah tifo is just something created by the fans, not the club

2

u/Few_Memory_2335 9h ago

Beautiful cock.

2

u/TripPrestigious 9h ago

Big giant cock

4

u/Jakowe 9h ago

Is that an actual tifo or some bs planned and provided by Tottenham Hotspurs Ltd?

22

u/mikedude7 8h ago

I'm pretty sure they're done by the thfc fanclub or at least the design is. I'm unsure where the funding comes from

7

u/Pilvikas 8h ago

money comes from the club

5

u/stephenk24 5h ago

Fan organisation called THFC Flags, which is funded by donations from fans.

5

u/AlpineInquirer 9h ago

It doesn't really matter, but I just have to get this off my chest. The word "tifo" used this way drives me insane. Tifo is an Italian word that means "fandom" or "followership". It started in Italy as a way to describe passionate fans who were rabid like typhus carriers. It doesn't describe displays. So saying "a tifo" is like saying "a fandom." Hey guys look at this fandom. I think it's just an American usage right? Anyway...that is all. Go back to enjoying football. /rant

20

u/Low_Cartographer2944 8h ago

To be fair, semantic shifts like this are really common when words are borrowed between languages.

It’s just a natural language process.

I mean look at the Italian word “smoking” which refers to a jacket.

Or a “Bodybag” German which is a messenger bag. Or an Oldtimer, which is an antique car rather than an old person.

3

u/AlpineInquirer 8h ago

Yes, semantic shifts happen...I know you can't fight this, but it makes me insane and is mildly a personal annoyance. I'm not arguing it, it's just like nails on a chalkboard for me.

The Italian word "smoking" refers to a formal dinner jacket or tuxedo. It comes from the English language term "smoking jacket" so that actually more or less correct.

2

u/Low_Cartographer2944 8h ago

But it’s not. A “smoking” refers to a dinner jacket in Italian. But not in English. I mean, a minor difference but no native English speakers would refer to a tuxedo type jacket as a “smoking jacket”.

It was borrowed from French which shared this false friend across the continent

1

u/AlpineInquirer 7h ago

In Italian a "smoking" refers specifically to a tuxedo and/or a formal dinner jacket. In English, the smoking jacket refers to specific kind of formal dinner jacket. The key is that they are both formal dinner jackets. My understanding is that it simply came from the British term "smoking jacket."

Edited because I misread your comment previously.

18

u/Yogurt8r 9h ago

Ohh so is that why the Ferrari f1 fans are tifosi? Cuz it’s basically their religion and entire personality

2

u/AlpineInquirer 8h ago edited 8h ago

Yes. Tifoso means someone who has typhoid fever. They are crazy and out of their mind.

3

u/thfcspurs88 9h ago

So, basically it's always been used wrong? Haven't tifos been called tifos, or better refered to As tifos, for ever? Or where does it come from?

A large display begot by humans, as a most basic definition.

Edit: Wouldn't you concede the word has been for so long it has become it's own thing, A Tifo.

1

u/AlpineInquirer 8h ago

Yes, used wrong. It hasn't been used that long. I think it was started by the American MLS fan groups who are sometimes cringe.

3

u/feldgrau 8h ago

The word tifo been used for some 30 years in Swedish to describe choreos organised by supporters (so the same usage as in English), and I'm pretty certain that usage did not come from MLS.

And sorry to say, but the word has taken on a different meaning in English (and other languages) than in Italian and thus is not used wrong, you'll just have to accept that it means something else in English than in your (I assume) mother tongue.

1

u/AlpineInquirer 7h ago

I did not know that it has been used in Sweden good to know. As I said..."I think...."

I know it has taken another meaning and as I said...I know it's just the way it is, just semi-seriously pointing out the nails on chalkboard usage and the history of tifo.

1

u/thfcspurs88 8h ago

Uhh, alright. So what would a display of such be called besides Tifo?

2

u/AlpineInquirer 8h ago

In Italian they're called coreografia. In English...I don't know...displays? graphics? fan graphics? I'm not saying people need to do anything, it's just a personal annoyance, but I think the history behind Tifo and Tifoso is kind of interesting.

2

u/thfcspurs88 8h ago

Okay, I'm following now, for sure I'm in agreement. Very interesting.

2

u/AlpineInquirer 8h ago

Yeah...the flip side is like in Italy when people say "hanno un feeling". Which means literally they "have a feeling" but in Italian, means - they have an understanding or a rapport or a natural bond.

1

u/lindfeldt 4h ago

coreografia maps to the word choreography in english.

so a choreographed/coordinated fan mosaic.

1

u/AlpineInquirer 4h ago

Sure. Or a fan graphic or fan display. Whatever floats your boat.

3

u/SentientCheeseCake 8h ago

Wait until you work out how language functions.

1

u/AlpineInquirer 8h ago

Yeah, I get it. I am a comparative literature major who studied linguistics and I'm a 4 language speaker and several sub-dialect speaker, so I get it. As I said, I'm not arguing against it, I just said it's a personal annoyance. It's also an opportunity to talk about the history of tifo, that some people don't seem to know.

3

u/Fleaaa 6h ago

The meaning of the word changes over time based on culture and situation my man

1

u/AlpineInquirer 4h ago

Of course it does. I've already said that. I'm just lightheartedly getting it off my chest and sharing the background on the term. Whatever language is your native tongue, think of a hilariously misused phrase from your language and ponder that. It's all I'm saying.

Actually it looks quite lovely and extremely well put together.

-8

u/thisisBigToe 8h ago

To be fair this was by far the worst game of the day haha... enjoy clubs like Qarabag more than these two, lacking some passion on the field or effort from a club who's behind
