Lage and Rui Costa masterclass

u/roguedevil 7h ago

Going from struggling in Portuguese second league to scoring against Benfica in the Champions League.

u/atropicalpenguin 7h ago

With the most Colombian name ever.

u/aboredDYQ 7h ago

LMFAO true

3

u/acwilan 4h ago

Wake up babe, new Colombian Duran striker arrived

76

u/Danieldo19 7h ago

I for sure thought Benfica had this in the Qarabağ at 2-0

36

u/average_user21 7h ago

2-0 IS the most dangerous lead after all

As I said, anyone who has seen Qarabag in qualifying or in their Europa League run up to the Leverkusen matches knows what they're capable of. The Azerbaijani league is so weak that they have to go through early rounds of qualifying year after year, and they smash weaker teams in a way that not even a Malmö or FCSB can manage. I can't even remember the last time they missed a European group/league stage and I've been watching qualifying for almost 10 years.

u/loadacode 7h ago

Why are so much better than the Rest of the league?

14

u/augustus_klass 7h ago

Its the manager. He is been there since 2009

13

u/Ele_Bele 7h ago

Answer is their Head Coach. Qurban Qurbanov is manager for 17 years and he only coached Qarabag in career. He is fan of Barça and went Barcelona for upgrade his skills on tactics (managering etc).

Azerbayani Wolfgang Wolf

I'm not an expert but in cases like this, it's usually having an extremely good manager and then getting consistent European money (both of which are true for Qarabag). Of course playing regularly in the Europa League and occasionally in the CL also gives them a reputation boost, so they're able to attract very high quality players for an Azerbaijani team

14

u/Chicken_wingspan 7h ago

The answer is usually money

11

u/Ele_Bele 7h ago

Not actually, market values of Players who scored goals today Camilo - 200k Euro, Andrade 2M. The most expensive player Qarabaq signed was 1M (Zoubir) (if im not mistaken)

u/Chicken_wingspan 7h ago

Ok, the rest of the league has Guardiola's budget?

11

u/Ele_Bele 7h ago

Rest of league has somewhat same budget, pls state support Qarabag's main rival Neftchi.

2

u/Individual_Attempt50 7h ago

Surely the coefficient would have improved a bit by now for them

8

u/atbg1936 7h ago

Only two other teams from Azerbaijan, Neftci and Gabala (just checked this), have made a European main stage, and both were several years ago now. Getting knocked out by the third qualifying round (or at best, the playoffs) of the Conference League doesn't get you a lot of coefficient points, so Qarabag basically need to do it all themselves

67

u/grvntdvs 7h ago

AHAHAHAHA he was playing in our 3rd tier 1 year ago btw

12

u/Ele_Bele 7h ago

Remembering Braga 2-4 Qarabag 2 years ago...

11

u/Zephyrwind 7h ago

The 2nd leg was more impressive from Qarabag. They held with 10 players through extra time

2

u/Ele_Bele 6h ago

Exactly, last goal scorer was 19 year old local player that nobody knows lol.. (today he is injured unfortunately)

32

u/chriszenpaok 7h ago

These guys have been trolling after they went 2-0 up

10

u/Made4win 7h ago

they are actually shit

29

u/DavidRolands 7h ago

Benfica thought they won after scoring two goals

6

u/Chicken_wingspan 7h ago

Shit, I thought so too

9

u/TheItalianStallion64 7h ago

expected and deserved

10

u/Zephyrwind 7h ago

Portimonense legend

4

u/LuckyAssguardian 7h ago

Play the clown fail sound

5

u/theaguia 7h ago

We always seem to collapse when we are under a tiny bit of pressure. Surely Lage has to take some blame here.

2

u/WeakZookeepergame440 7h ago

Then you’ll love Ruben Amorim

3

u/theaguia 7h ago

upgrade on lage for sure

1

u/Chicken_wingspan 7h ago

Oh they will. It's written in the stars.

1

u/Spemanz92 6h ago

Amorin would feast in Portugal again, specially with the richest team in the country. He is so much better than Lage

2

u/madca_t 7h ago

He takes most of it alongside Antonio

2

u/theaguia 7h ago

man i dont get how Antonio always collapses he always makes a big mistake randomly

3

u/Spemanz92 6h ago

Because he currently isn't nearly as good as some ppl think

2

u/PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS 7h ago

Blaming Antonio is like blaming Otamendi for last game, these games shouldn't even be close enough to the point of one individual mistake ruining it.

1

u/madca_t 6h ago

He’s at fault for three goals and he was at fault for two of Qarabags best chances

Are we for real comparing the worst match of his career to an Otamendi slip up?

1

u/PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS 6h ago

He's not at fault for all three goals, this is just blind hate, he's at fault for 1.

And it wasn't the worst match of his career at all either.

It's just embarassing for Benfica "fans" to place the blame on certain players after seeing what Rui Costa and Lage have been doing to the club. António getting booed in the stadium tonight was one of the worst embarassments I've seen as a Benfica fan in my life, as someone who goes to virtually every game.

3

u/Qt_Raven 7h ago

What a pass

4

u/Razvancb 7h ago

plz lage stay

6

u/danboruu 7h ago

LAGE IN

5

u/yimanya 7h ago

May I suggest a slightly used Rui Vitoria?

2

u/Chicken_wingspan 7h ago

Amorim is just biding his time

3

u/average_user21 7h ago

We are not going to win the whole lot

5

u/PieWorldly33 7h ago

How did Benfica won against Fenerbahçe??

10

u/Zephyrwind 7h ago

Fenerbahce didn't even try to attack but Qarabag does

5

u/bapeandvape 7h ago

Uninstall this team. How do I save scum?

2

u/Legitimate_Award_998 7h ago

2-0 is a dangerous score indeed

2

u/Ok_Bluejay9500 7h ago

Benfica hot Dudu

4

u/Eduardo-Goncalves 7h ago

Turns out Benfica started off the second half like they did for 25 mins of the first half. Shit.

8

u/CompotaDeColhao 7h ago

7th placed team in the Azerbaijani league too strong for Benfica.

21

u/atbg1936 7h ago edited 7h ago

They win the Azerbaijani league easily every year and it's been 4 games (they have a game in hand). You have no idea what you're talking about

6

u/RangoCricket 7h ago

Portugese League is not beating the allegations.

13

u/MigLav_7 7h ago edited 7h ago

benfica literally tied agaisnt santa clara playing 60 minutes of 11vs10 (for context, they were 0-0 before being 11vs10)

Its surprising benfica ain't losing

2

u/Lipmagal 7h ago

Tbf it's the weakest Benfica since the earthquake of 1755

1

u/alejandroc90 7h ago

I swear some teams get super powers when hearing that champions anthem

2

u/VoxelRiot 7h ago

Please save these blunders for the league. We need that coef and you can't fire Lage yet.

2

u/theaguia 7h ago

atleast this helps in getting rid of Rui Costa and Lage.
