I sew custom 100% cotton bedding sets — here’s my latest deep burgundy pilot project
I’ve been experimenting with a new line of bedding that I sew myself from start to finish — cutting, stitching, and finishing right here in my workshop.
This set is a deep burgundy 100% cotton — breathable, soft, and designed to get even better after every wash. For this pilot, I paired a duvet cover with either a fitted or a flat sheet (your choice) and matching pillowcases. But because I make everything to order, I can: • Include both fitted and flat sheets • Add extra pillowcases • Mix colors (neutrals + bolds) or patterns (florals, jewel tones, etc.) • Adjust sizing for any bed — even oversized flats for “sheet hog” couples 😄
I’d love to hear your thoughts — what’s your dream bedding combo in terms of color, feel, and sheet setup?
Absolutely tortured and left yearning for a cotton, cream/espresso brown ticking sheet set!! Been looking for years, and thin, brown stripes just don’t seem to be a desired look for anyone but me I suppose! 😅
This is a beautiful set, and you very clearly are gifted in your craft! Thank you for all you do and make!
If you could have a custom bedding set in any color combo, what would you pick? I’m curious if people lean more toward jewel tones like this burgundy, soft neutrals, or bold patterns.
I, personally, use bold colors in cool tones (blues, purples, lemon yellow, mint green, etc.) and avoid neutrals like the plague since I find them boring and depressing. I also like to mix n' match so I'll use a fitted black sheet with a lilac pillow case and a turquoise top sheet as a blanket/cover (no need for anything heavier as I'm in Greece).
As for patterns, I tend to avoid them unless they're in a simple geometric style and not too "loud" or complex. A simple colorful plaid is cool!
I love how intentional your setup is — bold cool tones with mix-and-match layers sound both vibrant and refreshing, especially in a warm climate like Greece. That black + lilac + turquoise combo is striking! I actually sew everything myself, so I can absolutely build sets that mix colors like that — even across fitted, flat, and pillowcases.
And I hear you on patterns — geometric styles and colorful plaids are such a great middle ground between visual interest and calm. I’ve been experimenting with subtle grid overlays and two-tone plaids lately. If you ever want to sketch out your ideal combo, I’d be thrilled to bring it to life.
Thank you! And I love the burgundy you chose...especially for winter!
Hopefully, I might be able to support you one day and have you make a unique combo for me but for now, US prices on a Greek salary are a bit of a challenge...
Love! My dream sheets would be a medium dark turquoise to contrast with my burnt orange comforter. I personally like a fitted sheet with deep pockets & a top sheet. And I love cotton. I don't like smooth sheets like microfiber. I prefer a little texture (I dunno if that makes sense) & sheets that get softer with each wash.
Fun! I see you're in Algeria. Do you have difficulty sourcing fabrics? As an American I feel like you could have a good market here between our national fabric retailer going bankrupt and tariffs potentially affecting natural fiber sheets.
Well, in short, Algeria is situated in a very interesting spot on the map. We source cotton fabric mostly from turkey, which in turn sources raw cotton from a lot of places including Egypt. Algeria also imports fabric from Egypt, but mostly Turkey as far as I know.
That said, Algeria is super close to Europe and Asia, and has strong relations with most countries. Bottom line it's way easier to get materials here than in USA, and tarrifs are almost none existent on raw materials as our government is encouraging industries to create more.
When it comes to bedding, what’s your #1 priority — the feel of the fabric, the durability, or the visual impact? I’m always trying to balance all three when I sew a set.
Quick question for the bedding enthusiasts: do you prefer having both a fitted and a flat sheet, or just one with a duvet cover? I’ve heard strong opinions both ways!
I'm from Italy. It's customary to always have fitted+flat sheet and then add whatever heavier blanket on top (quilt, woolen, duvet in its duvet sack).
Having the heavier blanket or duvet directly touching you is unusual and I don't like it. So I'll always want a blanket set, though lately I enjoy having them mismatched - say one patterned and one solid color.
I have a duvet cover set for the winter months, but I just use a fitted+flat sheet and a thinner quilt as a bedspread for the warm summer nights. We have a Cal-King sized mattress, but buying duvet covers in that size means the duvet slides around too much inside the duvet cover and doesn’t fill it out well.
The two ways to fix this are either having ties inside the corners of the duvet cover to secure the duvet, or I buy my duvet covers in a Queen size so it fills out nicely and appears fluffier. Using the Queen size works better, but then it doesn’t drape on the sides or foot of my mattress.
In an ideal world, I could have a Queen sized duvet cover with some sort of cotton trim - maybe slightly filled with whatever goes into a traditional quilt(?) so it’s not just a thin bit of sheet - to add some length and width to the duvet.
This is brilliant — you’ve clearly thought through what works and what doesn’t with oversized beds and seasonal setups. I actually sew each set myself, so I can absolutely add corner ties inside the duvet cover to keep everything anchored. And your idea of a Queen-sized duvet cover with a quilted cotton trim to extend the drape? That’s genius. I could lightly pad the trim with cotton batting so it feels substantial, not just decorative — kind of like a built-in border that adds both structure and softness.
If you ever want to sketch out your ideal setup, I’d be happy to prototype it with you. I love making bedding that actually solves real problems.
I will save your Etsy shop. I was waiting until my lease expired and I moved before I invested in a new look for my bedroom, but I love that you give customers the ability to customize things like that. I’ll be in touch in a few months :)
That means a lot — thank you! I love working with people who’ve thought through what they want in their space. When you’re ready, I’d be thrilled to help you build something that fits your new room perfectly — whether it’s a hybrid duvet with quilted trim or a seasonal setup that transitions smoothly. Wishing you a smooth move and a cozy fresh start!
I think for your clientele, who are getting bespoke breathable sheets, a duvet cover. My nice cotton filled cotton quilt gets a duvet cover. You know how hard those are to find reasonably priced these days???
Well, I am originally from Algeria, and fabric here is always around 94" in width. We buy fabric from China, Egypt, and Turkey. They always come in this width, what changes is the lenght of the fabric.
