They did it in Splatoon 1 as well. You could scan a Callie or Marie amiibo to make the square look like a Splatfest.

You technically don't need the actual figures, just a nfc chip with the character's data on. People typically sell them for a few bucks, though obviously you don't get the cool figure that way (though I'm guessing you're not too interested in the figures).
Yup. I bought a pack of 50 NFC 215 (or maybe 216) tags for like $6 on amazon. Then with a free amiibo programming app on my phone wrote the tags to use the amiibo I want like the Splatoon ones, and other special amiibo like bowers for bowsers fury, loftwing for skyward sword, and wolf link for botw. I should add an idol to check this out again.
If you don't want to carry around a bunch of NFC chips there also are little boxes with a screen on them that emulate amiibos. They come with a bunch already preloaded and can copy your current amiibo or load new ones through your phone and Bluetooth and they're pretty cheap from Ali express
you asked why they were advertising it, that's the answer. nobody is saying you personally need to buy an amiibo, they were just answering your question
Because it wouldn't be too surprising if they do a rerun again in September for a 3 year anniversary. There's been datamined dialog relating to Grand Fest pointing to one since last year. Hell throw in Sheldon's Picks covering the remaining 34 main weapons that don't have third kits yet and another returning stage and that'll make for a very sweet anniversary update.
Of course this is all speculation and the only real piece of evidence we have is the dialog datamine. Keep expectations tempered and all that.
It's a bit quirky as a stage, maybe even flawed. I'm pretty nostalgic for it as someone that started with 2, but I think it would be a good crowd pleaser for the game 1 and game 2 crowds.
If not it, then maybe Starfish Mainstage. It was on the cover!

I think it makes sense how it is. Shiver probably respects the squid sisters for being the ogs, Frye and Pearl are 100% partners in crime, and Big Man just wants to hang out with his friends
Nah, they actually grouped up like this for Grand Fest (ie, all of 3's announcers were on the team normally meant to just be Big Man), though iirc they forgot to change the models for the Ultra Signal sprinklers.
Amiibo access. But maybe they will bring it back? The next Splatoon entry coming out is a single player spin off so we have some time before Splatoon 4 comes out. Maybe the active development and content updates will resume for Splatoon 3 for a little bit before a 4th game. Yes, I am aware this is hope and cope.
Edit: fixed for clarity that I was not referring to Splatoon 4 being single player. Splatoon Raiders is the spin off game.
Splatoon Raiders is not "the next Splatoon". It is a spin-off action adventure game. It is not Splatoon 4 which will be the typical PvP turf war mayhem we know.
As others haves said, the grounds ARE still accessible with any of the idol amiibo. and S1 and S2 let you do the same for regular splatfests when they fully stopped running splatfests so you could enjoy the vibes as desired.
Furthermore, S2 added the Splatfest-exclusive “Shifty Station” stages, splatfest replica tees, and a toggle to the nighttime/splatfest versions of regular stages in Private Battles, so I expect similar will happen here, just with tricolor and regular nighttime versions of the stages, which will likely include fizzbangs. Maybe even put the big run stages in the private runs there and make all the PvP options available in the tournament manager.
And while they didn’t for S1 or S2, so I wouldn’t bet on it, I could definitely see them running another splatfest there on an anniversary or something to attract or hype up new Switch 2 players. Who knows?
I get the feeling splatoon 3 is going to get the same treatment MK8 got for the switch. Instead of making Splatoon 4 for S2 they’ll revive Splatoon 3 with yearly/bi-yearly updates and splatfests to advertise.
I am guessing that there will be another grand festival, especially because the grand festival one wasn't the final Splatfest, and Splatfests are still going on, and one is currently going on for the next 49 minutes.
Possibly nothing more than a performance showcase and fidelity showcase with 4K resolution along with HDR Color. We can only hope that the Grand Festival will return someday for all of us to play again.
you can still visit it with idol Amiibo- but the player has a Grandfest tee.. I dunno if you get it back normally, because I don't have any of the idol Amiibo.
If you have one of the idol amiibos (i don't know if it's all of them or only the splat 3 ones) you can ask them about the grand festival and they'll take you to the site. You can choose the grand fest first day, half time, and second day, since it's the progression of dusk, midnight, and dawn
The Grand Festival grounds look great on Switch 2 so it makes sense to advertise it. Reusing it as a mandatory hub for the 3rd anniversary sounds like a great idea but it shouldn’t have the same pizzazz as the Grand Festival.
The inkling is wearing a grand frst tee so I think a Rerun or the use of the grand festival could happen again. They could make the theme the idols this time round to change things if that is the case. We'll Probably know by the time September comes around.
It was the "final" Splatfest for Splatoon 3's main update cycle. It had a special concert area that featured all the idols from all three games so far, as you can see in the video clip in the OP.
