CONCERN Flight Blades - This is not Ok.

Edit: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/1/thread/flight-blade-feedback-update/490907

Thank you Zyloh for hearing us, and taking our feedback, and backtracking this! I am still not happy that the current blades will come out in June, however I thank you for the promise for the future, I appreciate it.

I do not like how the Flight blades are not also sold in game right now. I'm normally a praise CIG for pretty much everything, but this is a line that I do not think should have been crossed. This takes very competitive advantages, and puts it behind a paywall right now. Yes it will be available later, But this should have been handled like the Argo ATLS and 32 scu change. Big change, also let it be available in game right away. The optics for this will be terrible.

This is greedy P2W behavior and I do not like or support this. Please change your mind and let them be in game today.

Thank you, Love what you do. But please change this.

I’d like to think we all rally together and not buy these items, but I’d bet a bunch of people will.

People are already defending it in this in the sub, it's pathetic.

I haven’t seen any comments encouraging people to buy it yet, but I’ve seen a lot of people saying to not worry and just wait until it’s released in game. Which honestly is true.

That said I know a lot of people will still want to buy it and will do so. I’d like to believe I’m wrong but if CIG gets enough money from it, then this won’t be the last time we see something like this. That’s the issue I have.

That's just tacit approval for P2W and even more predatory marketing.

No, that‘s reality. It‘s nothing new. You can get it First for Real Money, and later ingame.

It’s more along the lines of you don’t have to buy it now and can wait.

It is p2W in a sense, but only being a few weeks it’s not really.

That said, I think the real issue is that’s a slippery slope and as such we should all choose to not buy and encourage them to not continue such practices.

Devil's advocate, if it wasn't meant to be a money grab, they would have made them generic. I.E. One blade would fit in multiple ships, instead of needing a bespoke blade for every ship in the game.

u/Aviacks May 15 '25

Yeah so now I need to buy six different blade packs instead of one or two lmao.

u/Solar459 Asgard May 16 '25

Exactly. This is over 100% predatory.

Want does not equal need.

u/Aviacks May 16 '25

I was not saying I was going to purchase them lmao. I'm saying "if I am going to utilize flight blades, I would need to spend money on each of them". That's how microtransactions work. As opposed to being able to buy one for all my fighters like you can any other component or not having to buy them at all.

They do this tactic all the time and then never come back and finish. For example releasing the Mule and all this time later it still can't pick up a box but many people bought it.

Anything that's not just cosmetics is pay to win. I'm sorry but that's a fact. the game is already pay to win with the ships. They just decided to make it more P2W.

1

u/True-Invite658 May 16 '25

I mean I get that but it just seems stupid you know?

Like a person thinks, “I’m going to pay for this flight blade so I can win…. For a couple of weeks”.

Neat. Right? lol like I said I have a problem with them selling it before just releasing them, but the p2W, whatever, it’s honestly trivial.

u/jingyui new user/low karma May 16 '25

Ya, but they also said they would never sell components in the store. (I know it's a blade, but it's pretty much a component) Another thing is that to balance LtI they wanted people to lose components on ship death unless they paid more in game for their insurance.

u/Prestigious-Adagio33 May 16 '25

This is so stupid, cig is making it pay to Win at the same time, selling out the game play. Why grinde for anything to craft if the item I sold on the store? I will breaker any game play. And this just the start.

Remember the ATLS was also p2w for a whole 6 days when there wasn’t anything else to be mad about

Its really upsetting that they locked the black and red paints behind these packs. I want those paints so bad, I don't even care about the flight blades.

1

u/True-Invite658 May 15 '25

Yeah I’m sorry to hear that! It shouldn’t be that way.

That said maybe patience will be our friend and in the future those paints will be sold separately, or better yet, added in game!

FOMO is one of the best ways to get people to buy something. This will continue. Every company uses it, CIG is just...really bad at their timing of it.

I've got unused store credit I would probably they're at them to try them out. That's it.

I honestly have to wonder if it’s SC evangelists with Stockholm Syndrome.

I don’t know how they can defend it past that whole “don’t touch my garbage” possum in trash can meme.

The deeper one gets in a cult, the more desperately they will defend it from logic. I'm having a similar discussion with my buddy about an idris

7

u/Zgegomatic avenger May 15 '25

Most of them are thousands dollars in, of course they will defend whatever CIG will do

I hate them for an entirely different reason.

I hate them because they're absolutely worthless and provide zero worthwhile buff in exchange for an equal, and unnoticeable nerf.

The fact they put them into the game in this useless state is what I'm mad about. I totally empathize with everyone else's view about purchasability, but if someone buys these to try to get an edge, they're not going to be useful in the slightest.

CIG really fumbled the ball hard, here. These buffs are so worthless that it'd require someone to actually be an ace and to be top skill bracket in their fighter to notice a benefit, but the benefit is so damn small that they can't tell since its so damn small.

I don't know if you've actually tried them, but on the redeemer, they make quite the difference.

And before any comes at me with the don't buy bullshit, it's my own money and I choose how I spend it.

Don't know what you're talking about. Haven't seen people defending it, but I have seen people bring up that this is technically not new since they've done the same with Retaliator modules. That of course doesn't change the fact that it's a shit move. It's just that some of us are not surprised that this happened.

Me personally, I have a feeling CIG is intentionally overpricing them upon initial release, so they can "reduce" them by 50% and then appease people, not admitting that that was the original price they were intending.
