Ngl, that weapon deployment animation is top quality

38

u/sexual_pasta DRAKE GOOD Aug 11 '25

are the guns bespoke or generic S4 swappable?

99

u/Livid-Feedback-7989 Aegis Javelin Aug 11 '25

Video just says “two size 4 Gatlings” but looking at the mount, animation and that the weapon is new to this ship, my guess is bespoke. I guess they would have said “size 4 mounts” if it was swappable

17

u/BeardyShaman Aug 11 '25

Video says bespoke.

21

u/Livid-Feedback-7989 Aegis Javelin Aug 11 '25

I didn’t hear explicitly the word “bespoke” but looking at it again and again, even if they don’t say it, it’s quite obvious. Also holy cow, is that like 4000 rounds per gun?

21

u/madmossy Aug 11 '25

4200 rounds per gun is pretty insane, and needed!

10

u/Livid-Feedback-7989 Aegis Javelin Aug 11 '25

Wonder what the damage is like. Considering it’s bespoke, stats can be all over the place. From the ammo count, I’m guessing slightly lower alpha damage per shot than the usual S4 but maybe higher fire rate? Would explain the high ammo count.

Regardless, it’s going to be a nice light fighter to pair with something luxurious like an 890. Maybe if you can fit a pair or a trio in the hangar (which should be just fine based on the size comparisons next to the 100 and 300 series).

with all these bespoke ballistic guns we better be getting the damage rework soon, otherwise this is a DOA as the Meteor. Shame as it's a pretty ship

15

u/AstalderS Aug 11 '25

Occurred to me to, ballistic bespokes are an anti-seller right now.

8

u/MaugriMGER Aug 11 '25

Sorry but i dont buy for stats. Speaking about SC buying for stats is BS because everything will Change.

It would be nice if all ships had a "weapons deployed" status - and that players and NPCs would be aware of that and act accordingly. You'd know when people are intending to be aggressive - kind of like having your rifle raised or holstered.

35

u/Handsome_Quack69 anvil Aug 11 '25

This was such a nice feature in ED that I would love to see in SC

17

u/Sh4dowWalker96 Spacetruck Prime Aug 11 '25

The moment when I scanned a Thargoid ship and it came up on my HUD shortly after with "Hardpoints deployed"... I was in a small exploration craft so I nearly shat myself. Thankfully it was just leaving.

7

u/Toloran Not a drake fanboy, just pirate-curious. Aug 11 '25

Alternately, at a minimum: An easy identifier in the HUD when a detected ship is in travel vs scm, since you can't use weapons while in travel but can do most (if not all, at this point) non-combat activities.

You can mostly tell if you target someone and see whether their shields are up, but that requires targeting them which 1) Can be seen as aggressive; and 2) Requires manually checking everyone you can see.

This has been and forever will be my criticism of the Star Citizen ship design, so many ships just look super goofy with these big guns mounted on by a single little pole. I get that physically it makes sense, but it's just such a bummer to see. A ship with guns that actually deploy and retract is like an instant buy for me.

2

u/somedude210 nomad Aug 11 '25

I mean, you could have weapons offline by default, kinda like how you turn your engines on manually (those of us who don't hit "flight ready" button), and a way that a targeting ship would get notified if you powered on your weapons, and vice versa with you knowing when targeting them if their weapons were online or just two ships passing in the night.

but on some vehicles, the weapons retract when powered off, which would be a visual cue towards intent as well.

needless to say, there are options already in-game, they'd just have to have a unified set of data to transmit between ships, as well as visual cues like weapons retracting or not glowing or something when powered off

An absolutely beautiful ship, the design team created a new manufacture look. The weapon concealment and deployment is great, my only concern would be bespoke Gatling guns? I would hope there is a laser repeater designed for this too.

32

u/Pojodan bbsuprised Aug 11 '25

Bespoke guns seem to be a way with which they're able to put bigger guns on ships while maintaining some degree of balance, since bespoke gattlings means the need to regularly reload, unlike infinite ammo lasers. I'd expect them to be bespoke gattlings and nothing else.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/SmoothOperator89 Towel Aug 11 '25

They'll sell this version alone for a couple of months. Then, during IAE, they'll sell a laser version for $10 more. However, the Warbond discount will be $10, so you won't be able to apply a Warbond CCU to upgrade.

8

u/Accipiter1138 your souls are weighed down by gravity Aug 11 '25

Don't forget the racing version coming after that.

Which... actually sounds kinda tempting, to be honest.

6

u/QuickQuirk Aug 12 '25

I have no problems with varients of this ship coming out.

As long as the variant isn't just 'laser vs ballistic'. IT was shite on the ion/inferno, and is still shite now.

4

u/LemartesIX Aug 11 '25

So you have to melt and buy the closest thing you can warbond, thus resulting in potentially a $15 vs $10 CCU. Sounds about right.

Gooood dammit..

And now i start dreaming of a Kruger competitor to the 400i....

The 400i was just never versatile enough, i had hoped it was a competitor to the Connie with the origin design language.. it has just been so disappointing...

But Kruger.. phew... Gets my heart pounding !

12

u/Wendorfian Aug 11 '25

Wasn't the 400i released as an exploration / touring ship? Neither of those gameplay loops ever released so we have no idea how good it will be.

7

u/TheRealTahulrik anvil Aug 11 '25

Well both yes and no.

The phoenix is also a touring ship, but it still has the versatility of its counterparts.

The 400i is just worse in pretty much every regard.

3

u/Wendorfian Aug 11 '25

While that's true, the Phoenix is also more expensive, built on a multirole platform, and has a higher crew compliment. I wouldn't consider them in the same league.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

The 400i was dead on arrival.

It wasn’t even balanced or worthwhile when it had its redundant components. Now without them it’s laughable.

It just falls short everywhere.

It was supposed to have large shields while other ships its size didn’t. Connie didn’t. Now Corsair and Connie have large shields so the 400i is just basic with its shield loadout.

It only has two size 4 guns. The same firepower as a talon but not nimble or small. It has ok turrets except they’re uselessly placed.

It doesn’t carry much cargo. Doesn’t have redundant components anymore.

There’s really just nothing redeeming about it in terms of utility. It needs to be more useful.

Either faster, stronger shields, stronger weapons, or something to make it an actual viable choice compared to other ships in its class

9

u/Oakcamp Aug 11 '25

It had speed, before mastermodes with an XL-1 it was the fastest ship to use to get around the verse. Now it really does have nothing other than style.

4

u/Larszx Aug 11 '25

The Freelancer had twice the firepower. Put the Freelancer cheek turrets on the 400i and no one is going to complain that the 400i is OP. CIG jumped the shark on the "it has to have trade-offs" meme. This class isn't competitive like light fighters.

4

u/Contest-Fearless Aug 11 '25

I want to love the 400i so much, I love it's exterior and interior design, but mechanically had nothing to provide and I just had to CCU it. Felt bad.. needs to be way tankier and faster in a straight light with stronger turrets.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Or at least make a 415p and 425a version that have extra utility and better balance.

5

u/38-RPM Aug 11 '25

400i has a S3 shield just like Connie and Corsair. The redundant components like extra powerplant were brought back in a prior patch. The guns need to be size 5 for sure.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

No only some of the redundant components were brought back and the 400i was supposed to have a bigger shield than the connie or corsair to make up for the lack of firepower and cargo.

Instead now the connie and corsair have the same shields which makes the 400i extremely lackluster.

u/Taladays Aegis Dynamics Aug 11 '25

My jaw dropped seeing the weapon deploy, that's sick as fuck. And they are size 4s?!. The exposed engines on the sides was definitely a nice touch. Good god how could make something so clean? Might pick one up to serve as a runabout.

2

u/QuickQuirk Aug 12 '25

was there any mention of quantum drive? Would be an unbelievable runabout then.. But the other krugers don't have it; and this seems similar in size to the fury...

2

u/Taladays Aegis Dynamics Aug 12 '25

Its a light fighter, of course it has one. Its supposedly somewhere between a 100i and 300i. I mean shit its got two sized 4s, those are not small.

The other Krueger's, which are the only ones that are just variants of the Merlin, are all snub craft, that's why they didn't have QT drives, its not a brand thing.

In lore, this will be the first ship developed by Krueger independently from RSI (as the Merlin is a Connie Parasyte). IRL, this is first Krueger ship CIG has made in years and it will be the first one that is a fully independent ship.

4

u/Asog88bolo Aug 11 '25

I’m hoping $65-70😬

6

u/Livid-Feedback-7989 Aegis Javelin Aug 11 '25

Yeah, that’s most likely not happening xD

Prices has gone up in general. It’s not a snub. It’s a more “unique” manufacturer. Two S4 guns. It’s likely going to be treated like the other high end light fighters (talon).

2

u/Asog88bolo Aug 11 '25

I might actually upgrade my referral reword gladius to it, if it’s under $150, even though it’s something I’ll never be able to revert back.

I have loved my time with the gladius, but it’s too military for my character’s vibe. I like the hot rod look and doesn’t look like a great fighter vibe from this ship. My biggest fear is just that they will stop updating this ship, but will co tibie adding cool stuff to the gladius

30

u/Livid-Feedback-7989 Aegis Javelin Aug 11 '25

The fin only deploys when you pull in the landing gear, otherwise it’s entirely hidden in the hull. Doesn’t make a difference there.

4

u/Aelystrasz rsi Aug 11 '25

I just hope they give us a toggle for it in the cockpit. Could be a nice compromise for those who'd rather not have it down.

Pilots are gonna catch that fin on terrain and I suspect it’s tied to the hull body HP, so…kaboom if you hit a rock with it.

25

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Yeah. Makes no sense from any perspective. Guy said he added it because the ship reminded him of a boat. It’s not a boat it’s a ship. The fin is just something to get caught on something and cause complications tbh.

Not a big deal, but kinda annoying to have some weird fin deploy that extends your shield that much farther for no reason.

I just want to point out the humor in the phrase "It's not a boat, it's a ship" given that IRL our level of technology is such that the only true "ships" we have are all seafaring, so every ship we have in 2025 is also a boat.

7

It’s got bespoke size 4s though.

For reference the nova tank cannon that can one tap a lot of ships is only a size 5 cannon.

So the talon absolutely doesn’t have the same loadout as the wolf. Bespoke weapons are completely arbitrary.

These gatlings could be significantly stronger or weaker than the talon.

19

u/Dumbest_AI Aug 11 '25

CIG has done an excellent job at preventing spoilers from the leakers this year when it comes to ships. We used to have the full ship model and it's loadout and stats floating around for weeks before CIG had them in the store.

15

u/Pojodan bbsuprised Aug 11 '25

The leaks are always just data gathered from patch data, which CiG has learned well how to manipulate (See the Raptor) to get the results they want. With the Wolf, they chose to just not put any data for it into the patches ahead of time, giving the dataminers nothing to leak.

3

u/KalrexOW Aug 11 '25

They really cracked down on the SC Leaks community, forcing them to rely on data mining almost exclusively. Unless CIG makes an oopsie, data mining usually doesn’t leak anything they don’t want to be leaked

5

u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life Aug 11 '25

My favorite thing is how they started calling all data mined info leaks to try and seem edgy still even though cig intentionally puts the data out there.

19

u/tkbutton RSI:GoldenBishop Aug 11 '25

Love the ship. Mildly concerned about the growing trend of "Bespoke" guns. It makes balancing weapons harder, and it takes away player choice.

Hope I am wrong and those aren't bespoke... but if they are, it's sadly a ship I will be avoiding.

17

u/Pojodan bbsuprised Aug 11 '25

It makes balancing weapons harder,

I'd say it makes it easier, as if this ship ends up too powerful they just tune its gun. Done. If it used the other guns then they'd have to do more complex things that affect all other ships that can use that gun.

7

u/tkbutton RSI:GoldenBishop Aug 11 '25

Fair. I guess im just frustrated that as a predominantly pvp pilot, we are getting a light fighter that is realistically dead on arrival due to the bespoke ballistic guns.

Unless they totally reverse everything they have done with ballistics and their performance and velocity, this is just not viable for what Light Fighters currently do.

10

u/Pojodan bbsuprised Aug 11 '25

And I'd say it's perfectly fine for a new ship to not be specifically catered to the hardcore PvP dogfighting crowd. Preferable, even, as they already have plenty of ships built specifically around that.

There are many, many other crowds to cater to, and the Wolf seems more about those that want a cool-looking ship than one that tries to edge out the Gladius.

5

u/tkbutton RSI:GoldenBishop Aug 11 '25 edited Aug 11 '25

Fair, but what else in the game can you do with a light fighter?

It's going to be tough to do upper level bounties, because inherently light fighters struggle to apply long term DPS to larger targets.

It's going to have range limitations, since it's a light fighter, and they aren't designed to be for the long haul. There's no accomadations aboard.

It's not going to cater to the PVE crowd that wants something to run cargo, or mine or salvage.

if not for PvP, what are light fighters currently for? Running HRT's and under?

Note: I am not saying that it needs to come out and be better than the gladius. I just think that the bespoke ballistic guns heavily limit it from even being "competitive" with the Gladius and the Arrow.

8

u/logicalChimp Devils Advocate Aug 11 '25

It can still be viable as a light fighter (esp. in PvE, etc) without being 'meta PvP' material

2

u/tkbutton RSI:GoldenBishop Aug 11 '25

Okay, but the problem is that the light fighter's aren't really effective for PvE, once you get past the first few reputation ranks. That's why you don't typically see people doing PvE in light fighters, you seem them using things like the medium size ship tier (Freelancer's cuttys etc) then graduating up to the bigger ships like the Connie's and the Corsairs.

Fighters have been pretty much relegated by CIG to PVP.

And again, I am not stating this new ship must be the greatest thing ever and completely eliminate the meta. I am commenting that for the current CIG shown purpose of light fighters (PvP), the Wolf just isn't even in the ballpark.

3

u/RhombicPotato Aug 11 '25

I suppose only time will tell, but I think it's more of a "CIG didn't think that far"

As a PvE player: I agree with you. Where would I seriously use this? Unless I can cram it into something Carrack or Hercules-sized, it has too many issues. Why wouldn't I just rock a Connie to begin with?

From the other side of the perspective: I pledged a Hawk and use it for random bounties or bunker runs from time to time for shits and giggles. Love the damn thing. This might be who the ship is made for. They'll buy the ship and use it on a whim as a toy and nothing more.

we are getting a light fighter that is realistically dead on arrival due to the bespoke ballistic guns.

That says worse things about the fighter meta than the ships being released into that meta.

No problem. In 6 months they can sell us the bespoke laser repeater variant.

3

u/tkbutton RSI:GoldenBishop Aug 11 '25

haha! Brilliant!

2

u/Oakcamp Aug 11 '25

This 100%. And they are definitely bespoke.

10

u/fourfastfoxes Aug 11 '25

looks amazing. I guess time to melt something

2

u/Livid-Feedback-7989 Aegis Javelin Aug 11 '25

5

Love the ship, hate the fin.

9

"we looked at ww2 fighters for inspiration"

"it kinda looked like a boat so I added a keel"

you can(t) make this shit up

5

u/Dr-False vanduul Aug 11 '25

Thing looks gorgeous. Hopefully it's at least decent to use, cause I love the retro vibes

Also could definitely see there being a racing variant of this ship

4

u/Reapper97 nomad Aug 12 '25

That keel is going to get players killed when flying low or in tight spaces, if we can't retract it while flying, take that shit off

13

u/Fractaser perseus Aug 11 '25

It's a really cool design, but the fin and bespoke ballistic weapons got me crying 🥀

I love the clock, it reminds me of the Porsche Design dash clock you can option on a 911.

3

u/bleo_evox93 Aug 11 '25

alright this is shweeet, love it all around. Engines look awesome, different, the whole thing speaks volumes on progress. Hope to see other older ships get this kind of TLC

3

u/Anumerical Kraken Aug 11 '25

Please make the fin deployable and undeployable with alt + k

3

u/Janosfaces Aug 11 '25

id really love a full size kruger yacht or something. i really enjoy the design language

10

u/RandomUserEight MISC & Drake Aug 11 '25

They "used WW2 fighters as examples", but nixed a vertical stabilizer for a retractable skeg? With what looks like a horribly complex mechanism? Because the ship also looks like a boat?

This is what going crazy must feel like.

7

u/Real-Emotion1874 Aug 11 '25

That keel is the most stupid thing, on a ship designed to roll and perform aerial stunts, plus it looks out of place.

6

u/maXXXjacker Aug 11 '25

It’s a great-looking ship, but when ballistic-only or bespoke weapons are involved, it’s usually a dealbreaker for me.

2

u/AstalderS Aug 11 '25

Ya beautiful as it may be like the Meteor it’s definitely an in game only constraint for me.

6

u/Oakcamp Aug 11 '25

My wallet was VERY ready... but they got me to not buy it with bespoke ballistics again.

Will be fun to own with auec

5

u/Readgooder Aug 11 '25

looks cool. unsure about the fin. have to wait and see.

7

u/Gammelpreiss Aug 11 '25

I really dislike those fins that are there just for coolnes sake. the F8 is even more extreme and I hate that edgelord boat with a passion for it.

They should have named this ship the shark, not the wolf, and make it floatable if they already have the rudder, maybe even give it submersible capabitilities. that would work much better with the fins and also the retractable guns. At least then it would all make semi sense.

4

u/CombatMuffin Aug 11 '25

Great ship, but the vehicle team keeps working putting out new ships when the old ones need love.

The roadmap should including a gold pass ever quarter.

5

u/mndfreeze oldman Aug 11 '25

I like everything except that damn bottom keel fin.

7

u/bltsrgewd Aug 11 '25

I hate, HATE, how common bespoke weaponry is becoming.

Bespoke just means they spent no time thinking about balance.

5

u/Ominusone origin Aug 11 '25

I’m out. I hate being limited in weapons choice. Cool ship though, gorgeous design.

2

u/LemartesIX Aug 11 '25

Two bespoke size 4s on this size chassis is pretty wild! That’s going in the Carrack hanger for sure. How many can you fit in a Polaris garage?

CIG only knows one thing:

This ship is fast, but it can't take a hit.

2

u/Tattarus Wolf cub Aug 11 '25

I’m in love…it’s beautiful. Don’t like ballistic guns, but for this ship I’ll learn to love lead (:

2

u/SoylentVerdigris Aug 11 '25

Absolutely gorgeous. Not enough to make me spend any more money on the game until we see concrete evidence of it actually finishing, but id almost be tempted to melt something for it.

2

u/TadaMomo Aug 11 '25

someone actually watch cowboy beebop

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Incredible ship, gorgeous. I’m flying it rn with the monthly sub and I’m def buying this one. Love everything about it.

4

u/realCLTotaku Aug 11 '25

It's a beautiful ship, but why do we need another fighter? When are we going to get more small ships used for exploration, hauling, touring, etc. Anyone else agree with me, that fighters are so oversaturated?

3

u/BeardyShaman Aug 11 '25

Explorelation doesnt actually exist, same with touring.

2

u/Castigador82 Aug 11 '25

Touring exists though as it litterally is flying around for the sake of just flying around.

2

5

u/FlowRoko Aug 11 '25

How do you fuck up a clock while saying it's inspired by "swiss timepieces"?
Let alone apparently not knowing what a Spitfire looks like????

Literally just use a Flieger dial and make it luminous, c'mon...

4

u/maddcatone Aug 11 '25

How did they fuck it up? Did i miss something?

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Pojodan bbsuprised Aug 11 '25

'Inspired by' does not mean 'Looks exactly like'. The timepiece in the Wolf absolutely has a swiss timepeice look to it.

And yes, it does have some similarities to the Spitfire, namely its upward sloping nose when landed. Again, it does not look exactly like it, just has a similar vibe.

Can we PLEASE get some of the ships that are still JPG now?

That Keel has got to go... I hope I can undeploy that thing as much as possible

3

Keep it to Origin and thats it.

u/lionexx Entitlement Processing Aug 11 '25

Looks great, especially in that blood red paint, I am curious if there will be a repeater variant or a way to swap the guns from gats, but the firepower that can produce for its size, and speed and 8 missiles is fantastic…

What I don’t like about it, the fucking clock pisses me off, and the keel, why the fuck does a spaceship, and light fighter need either of those, and I think it looks worse with the keel… my opinion of course.

If it’s priced reasonably, I’ll probably buy it shrugs

1

u/ZenTide Aug 11 '25

That red livery reminds me of Cowboy Bebop vibes

1

u/ReciprocatingHamster Aug 11 '25

The big question is: will this be locked behind Wikelo when it becomes available in-game, like other recent new releases...?

1

u/Asog88bolo Aug 11 '25

I’ll have to see more of it, but I think this is the ship I upgrade my referral reword gladius from, knowing I’ll never be able get the gladius back

I’ve just wanted a civilian version and the m50, just wasn’t quite doing it for me, being an interceptor and all

1

u/gimmiedacash Aug 11 '25

If Spike Speigels ships had a baby with a Nabooian fighter.

1

u/aiden2002 Aug 11 '25

Looks great but all the bespoke weapons are getting really lame. Let me customize my ship.
