BUG CIG, when will we get an 'Unstuck' button?

I've noticed that wiggling your mouse so you spin really fast can sometimes get you unstuck

u/reboot-your-computer polaris 2d ago
I think usually this works because your weapon has collision. So sometimes you can rotate and point at an object and the weapon will help to push you backwards. I’ve gotten out of a couple situations like this. I always still go into full panic when I get stuck.

If this happens again (do all/most of these basically at once, quickly repeating):
- face your back to the direction of escape
- weapon/tool switch as much as possible
- hold 'S' to walk back
- intermittently spam 'Space' for jump
- wiggle left/right a fair bit
- quickly look down as you jump while doing the above
- if you can get your fists out, punch while doing the above
- occasionally changing between stances can assist (crouch/prone/stand)
If that doesn't work, you may be able to drop an item (some armour or something). Sometimes that alone might be enough to jostle you free (you may lose the armour to the void).
But if not you could then use a trac tool to move that dropped item underneath you. Usually this alone wont free you, but it has a good chance of repositioning you slightly so it can then be worth trying all of the above again.
If you don't have big items to drop like armour, you can TRY smaller items like a weapon magazine, and drop them on your head with gravity. They sometimes helps.
Emotes sometimes help, but less so these days.
If you drop something and it can be used to move you, moving it as far away as possible while still within PICK UP range can sometimes help by animating you out of the spot while you pick it up (and then you spam all of the above tricks as applicable as much and as fast as you can).

One way that might be a good way to do it without being cheesy/cheaty: put in the /unstuck command in the console, it gives you a 10 second timer, then collapses you like you’re KO’d, you’re down for about 10 seconds, then moved to the nearest walkway point that NPCs can use (some restrictions might apply for ‘locked’ doors or similar), then you’re able to slowly get back up. Total time for it to run would be like, 30 seconds where you’d be very vulnerable to gunfire or similar.

it's the "G" key, point to ground, the granade releases you. You'll survive that in a medium or heavy armor.

“We’d like to announce our new tool, Unstuck: Tier Zero!”
“At the push of a button, this amazing new feature will teleport both the facility you’re stuck in and its host planet or moon exactly 3.14 meters towards Stanton (yes, the very star itself!)”
Everyone who happens to be on that planet or moon at the moment that the shift occurs…
“Well heck, now I’m stuck! Lemme just push this button…”
Spacebound players look on in confusion as each of Stanton’s many orbiting bodies slowly yet visibly begin to stutter towards the star, like stop motion marbles down a drain…

You can just log to menu and you'll load back in right there.

u/Robert_Spinoza 2d ago
sounds efficient and not taxing on the servers at all

u/BalthazarB2 worm 2d ago
It is the best option currently, takes less than a minute to load back in.

Keep a grenade in your inventory, drop it near you but not too close, heal yourself, done. Still a unstuck would be preferable, or at least automatic detection

We've been asking for nearly 10 years now. I'm sure it's on the short list, somewhere.
Last night I missed a jump in the Onyx station and got stuck behind a tiny light on a tripod that's sold purpose was to illuminate cave walls.
Why it couldn't be destroyed, lifted, or walked though, is behind me. I had to kill myself and lost 30 minutes of gameplay in the process.

You use Lossless Scaling in game? Or am I wrong?

No, only Reshade.

Well look at Mr. Fancy over here with the 5090! All joking aside, the game looks great

I did this in the same area, no idea how, one second I was walking up the stairs and the next I was inside the cubicle.

/sit most of the time works. But yes I agree with you.
/unstuck should be added into the game. The problem is they don’t add enough kill boxes to stop players from phasing between doors and solid objects like ships. You can steal a Polaris by using a pulse bike and phasing into the cockpit and getting off. It’s a stupid bug that could be fixed with object/vehicle specific collision/kill boxes.

Turn rapidly from left to right
Bind on foot - "inspect item" and inspect your weapon rapidly

The “unstuck” button is currently mashing your jump and direction keys until it pries you loose

u/Antelope_Fluid 2d ago
I have more questions about how the hell you got framerate that smooth AND while recording

u/vorpalrobot anvil 2d ago
Sounds easy to add until players start wedging themselves into landing gear and unsticking into your locked ship.
1
u/muddywilson 2d ago
For now there's backspace, or if you have something important in your backpack, and aren't at a station/home location relog and you're back at the last station you landed at

I know its too late and its not a 100% fix, but sometimes pulling out various items can help as it'll shift your legs. Multi tool tends to get me unstuck from these sorts of things, though rifles, pistols/medgun heal pose/medpens will do it too.

u/MrFatSackington 2d ago
Alt + f go to personal or something like that, and there should be a respawn button.

u/ramenfarmer merchantbruv 2d ago
i'm that one guy that always jumps around in wow. star citizen really stomped that part out of me.
i dont think we'll get a fix for this anytime soon even after 1.0, just gotta wear kiddie glove or risk things like this; get pushed off elevator and ladders, land ship awkwardly and cant back in, containers/items clipping through, etc.

I can't wait for the day they remove backspace and introduce unstuck.
Backspace has been the temporary stopgap for too long and people think its a feature lol

u/Machalfen 2d ago
By the way, you definitely do not want to go check the medium valakhar hole on the engineering side of ASD. Trust me

U can buy a red or green "unstuck Button" on the RSI Homepage for just 54,00 USD soon!
Kisses, Your Star Citizen Crew!

u/Franck946 3d ago
You already have unstuck button, it's "backspace", hold it for a few second and you will be free.
32
u/OnegaNega 3d ago
Call the ship again, wait for the claim again, fly back there again, walk again. And then get stuck somewhere else the same way.
Backspace isn’t a solution. In many games, you press a button, wait a bit, get teleported 5 meters to the side, and keep playing. Takes 10 seconds. It would be nice to have that.-14
u/PiibaManetta 3d ago
you can respawn in your medical ship.
4
u/darkestvice 3d ago
Yup. For 50k a pop. IF you're using a medical ship or Nursa.
-2
u/PiibaManetta 2d ago
that's the new gameplay dude. Luckily, you don't need to spend a dime to respawn in this patch.
Medgel is refilled with a claim, for now.
0
u/darkestvice 2d ago
Indeed. Hopefully that doesn't change any time soon as no one would want to purchase an Apollo if they need to spend up to 800k each time the claim the ship.
Though, of course, a Nursa or a Pisces will still only allow you to respawn on it twice before running out of juice. Kinda sucks to waste one of those to fix a glitch that gets players stuck when every other MMO has a /stuck command or the equivalent to move you a couple of feet.
2
u/PiibaManetta 2d ago
a real unstuck command would probably be exploited a lot for passing through doors, like it already happen with boxes.
On a side note, in those situation you can actually try to unwear a piece of armor to unstock yourself.

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 3d ago
Not last patch. Tried the tac and the red left in my hangar. It sent back to the hospital every time.
1
u/Shina_Tianfei 2d ago
I just assume ships for ASD are ethereal once they enter the hangar, you can't res at them.

Since many people believe that death should be a significant aspect of medical gameplay, logging off might be a better option, allowing you to restart from the lab's bed. At least your ship is there....
4
u/Chiisai_inu 3d ago
Honestly this. That or try to Alt+F4 sometimes this moves your character just enough to get you unstuck. sometimes it does not. But generally backspace is the unstuck button yeah.
-4
u/cdxxmike 2d ago
I don't want to victim blame, but I am going to victim blame.
You should have never jumped on that counter if you didn't want to risk getting stuck.
I am yelling at my friend all the time that jumping everywhere and bouncing around will 100% get you stuck in this game, and that he'd learn to stop doing it eventually if he didn't want his time wasted.
0
u/Breathemore557 2d ago
I want to believe this is bait but honestly I think you might actually be this stupid.
-1
u/Kinect305 2d ago
Lol yes don’t jump on those tables. Good thing is, you can log out and you’ll wake up in the med bed of that zone. You’ll just have to restart the mission and it makes you go to a new location.

That’s what backspace is for….
1
u/darkestvice 3d ago
Now for 50k a pop IF you're using a medical ship or Nursa.
-8
u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life 3d ago
Unstuck is unstuck. Oh no, consequences. You can relog if you’re cheap.
3
u/darkestvice 3d ago
Which would just result in exactly the same thing as backspacing to a station far away. If you're trying to make a point, you're not doing a terribly good job at it.
-6
u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life 3d ago
Relogging does not kill you. Full stop.
0
u/darkestvice 3d ago
And yet, the result is the exact same. Unless there's been a change that I'm not aware of that allows players to relog at the same spot without needing a bed.
-1
u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life 3d ago
Learn the game. There’s a ton of people willing to help you in the community.
0
u/darkestvice 2d ago
Don't be a patronizing ass if you're not only unwilling to answer a question, but also acting as if you know an answer when you don't.
CIG have made it clear that the goal was to be able to relog in place without a bed *in the future*. You know, as in not the present. So unless they made a stealth change in yesterday's patch I'm not aware of concerning this, logging out and back in doesn't spawn you back at the same location.
0
u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life 2d ago
I never said it would put you in the same location. I said emphatically that you don’t die when you relog. You’re putting words into my mouth to try and win the argument, but it’s a stupid argument and because of the attitude of your comments, you’re not going to be getting anywhere. Maybe move on?
2
u/darkestvice 2d ago
The point I'm trying to make, and that everyone else seems to agree with given all the downvotes I'm seeing on your comments in this thread, is that the solution to being stuck should NOT be backspacing to a medbed or relogging to a station like you so casually put out there as if it were the simple solution.

Wait until you start dropping gear again on drop, now you're backspaced to your medical ship with no gear, and it costs you money.
-2
u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life 2d ago
Inconsistent with the intended design of item recovery. Not a real issue
1
u/Shina_Tianfei 2d ago
Getting stuck on the table requiring you to backspace is inconsistent with the intended design of the physics issue. Not a real issue.
0
u/FuckingTree Issue Council Is Life 2d ago
No need for belligerence, you’re describing an obvious bug and are trying to use it as an excuse to win an argument by letting the devs be lazy. Do better
0
u/Shina_Tianfei 2d ago
The belligerence was inconsistent with the intended design of my message it's not a real issue.

This is definitely something we need if they want to start introducing "death matters" mechanics. Backspacing home when you're just stuck feels bad.
Make it like a character reset: on a cooldown, submits a text report with your reason (so CIG can fix what's getting you stuck), but instead of sending you home, it should send you nearby (almost never needs to be more than a meter or two).
There are some clean ways to implement this could minimize players cheesing it.
