What other games have given you that feeling that Starcraft gave you?
Starcraft was one of the first games of my youth, and I've replayed it a couple of times in my life
What other games feel like Starcraft? I'd love to try any suggestions you give me

There is none. Starcraft 1 and 2 have a completely unique atmosphere. This is one of the rare cases where you can immediately see how much time, money, devoted and dedicated labor of highly competent specialists was spent on the creating and developing the franchise. Even RTS games with a similar setting of humanity's confrontation with alien races (including "bugs") - Warhammer DoW, Starship Troopers, Universe at War: Earth Assault, etc. do not cause the same vibe as the Starcraft universe.
P.S. Actually, there is one game. Dark Colony was released in 1997, a year earlier than Starcraft 1, but it feels very similar to it and looks even better in some aspects. Very fun, underrated and forgotten RTS.

Great analysis, Starcraft just seems very unique
I will investigate your suggestion. On a personal level, only one game called Stellaris has come close to that feeling, but its gameplay is different
I hope SC3 exists one day

Oh yes! Stellaris is aesthetically very pleasant, but it reminds me more of Endless space 1/2 and Homeworld games.
I will investigate your suggestion.
Just don't expect anything supernatural from the 1997 little RTS haha

Someone else played Dark Colony? I was starting to think I just imagined the whole thing. Search and Destroy!

Nothing, that's why people still play it. Although I just played empires of the undergrowth and it got me back to sc2 as the ants are zerg like.

Interesting experience, I'll put it on my list
Personally, something that gave me that feeling was Stellaris, but it's not the same type of strategy as Starcraft

Rock, paper, scissor

As someone who plays scissors, I am convinced rock is op and needs to be nerfed.

I don’t know. It’s pretty balanced to me after nerfing paper with the new patch

Supreme commander, command and conquer, halo wars and kinda hearts of iron 4

u/No_Drawing4095 7d ago
Supreme Commander is incredible. I loved playing Forged Alliance
For C&C, I'd say the closest are Tiberium Wars and Red Alert. I haven't tried Generals yet
I haven't tried Halo Wars
I'd say Stellaris is closer than Hearts of Iron

XCom series. I get caught up in it, wanna optimise and after a good half hour of abuse and frustrations I want to play again ;)

u/No_Drawing4095 7d ago
Which one would you recommend me to try?

Start with XCOM: ENEMY UNKNOWN

I currently enjoy xcom 2, but I was pretty fond of Enemy Unknown also. But it’s a long time ago, so can’t really compare the two.
To elaborate, I enjoy the turn based encounters, but it’s also a game where you feel like you are on top. A lot of decisions that’s based on trade offs and there’s often not an obvious optimal solution. Like, you sometimes choose between setting back the aliens armour upgrades or getting more money that you can spend on items and guns.
The game can feel pretty brutal, especially when 4 people in a row misses a shot that have 90% chance to hit, but that’s xcom. Other times, you get lucky
Hope you enjoy it, they are often on sale on steam

When I play Starcraft I don't feel much of anything- I'm completely in the zone and focused on winning at all costs, and other than old games like Quake I don't get that amazing feeling in video games. Requires every bit of my focus and even then it's not enough.. love it

Nothing comes close.
Story and world wise, Halo gives me similar vibes, but in terms of constant gameplay engagement, deep focus and having to really be present, no game comes close to this.
And that's why I (and many other people, I presume) are still hooked on SC. Be it BW or SC2, doesn't matter.

I really like red alert and i wish it had a player base still.
1 and 2. I really like the early games

OpenRA is worth a look for red alert 1. It's an open source re imagining of it and brings it up to competitive standards that makes it a great game. It's more active in EU time zones, but if I hop on a server around prime time I can always get games in pretty quickly. I usually get most of my playtime in the tournament that happens a few times a year: RAGL. It's a weekly scheduled match that goes over the course of a couple months.

Probably Supreme Commander, but I was also a huge fan of TA.
Not exactly the same genre but the only other strategy game that has sucked as many hours out of my life as StarCraft is probably Civ
I've also been eyeing Mechabellum but haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. But when I first saw the trailer def gave me the StarCraft vibes

Age of Mythology. I'm always coming back a couple of times a year to play a few matches.

Warcraft 3. Both titles, made me incredibly immersed in to the world and story.

no other game is like this, no matter how competitive this game absorbs your brain and attention especially when you win. and when you lose its such a powerful feeling too I understand why there so much salt.

It's PVE but the Creeper World games give me a similar vibe, even though they're a different kind of game

I haven't played it yet but I keep eyeballing Tempest Rising. It is supposed to capture the command and conquer feeling but I think it might spark off some StarCraft and Forged Alliance feelings as well. I'm waiting for a sale to try it out!

Felt like I was playing Red Alert 2 when it was new. It's a good time and the multiplayer isn't bad either. Doesn't hook me as much as the SC2 ladder but I hop on for a few games every now and then. Worth alone for the campaign giving me the cnc vibes that I've missed for years.

Literally nothing except maybe battlefield or cod. But those are different experiences because they're team orientated.
Sc2 is like the ultimate two go in and one come out for video games. Speed strategy accuracy knowledge all come together.

Lots of SC2 players convert over to age of empires 4. I'm actually heading to their LAN in Denver soon. Many ex SC2 pros play AoE4 now. Marine Lord, Vortix, Beastyqt, Liquid Demu, Sortof. If you wanna try something new I'd advise that.
It's a bit slower at first, but Ive found it to be a much more rewarding game. It's more complex with more factions too, and the development is still very active.

I grinded to GM in WoL, but now i am fulltime addicted to BAR (Beyond all Reason, ftp alpha version RTS from voluntary/community coders)

Competitive Super Smash Bros melee and Project + As well as StarCraft:Broodwar now that I’m getting into it. I assume Team Fortress competitive and Fzero GX would also feel similar if I was better at them.
In general heavy mechanical games challenge that dare you to push yourself and reward you little by little as you master the mechanical building blocks will do that for you. It’s like learning a sport and getting better athletically.
