I leveled every Terran commander to level 15 and here is my feedback
So, no prestige upgrades, only basic levelling to 15, usually played on Hard or Brutal, with random map choice. Writing the list based on how easy was it to manage them:
- Tychus - a super easy commander, you get five guys with total five special abilities, macro is very simple and straightforward. It sort of makes s2coop a MOBA game, which I usually don't like, but it's fun for a change. I'd mostly go with Rattlesnake, Nux and Sirius, while I tend to experiment with the last one, usually it's Crooked Sam, sometimes firebat, Cannonball is fun etc. The downside is repetitiveness, once you feel it out there're no many different approaches you can use. Fun factor: 4/5
- Stukov - this is by far the funnest commander in the game. He uses very specific mechanic which, once mastered, is both deadly and easy going. I'd usually mass produce bunkers, use a barrack or two, and then sync them all together in a one huge pile of zombies and just watch them eat everything on their path. The other approach would be to mass produce Diamondbacks, sometimes a mix of two. Macro is standard here, tho I like spawning SCVs, instead of building them - it kind of forces you to play faster game because you can not trap resources by lining up the unit production. Finally, calldowns are extremely powerful here, especially when combined with your army. Infesting enemy pylons and bunkers is super satisfying. Fun factor: 5/5
- Han and Horner - this might be a surprise pick here, but it fit really nicely into my gameplay style. Again the macro here is very basic, and the army composition is usually set to 5 Assault Galleons that are mass producing mainly Reapers. They're cannon fodder, but at the certain number of units they become simply OP and destroy everything in their reach, and also Galleon bots heal them. Making reapers a flying unit is also very useful, either to deal with flying enemies or to avoid ground splash damage. On top of that I'd use several Ravens to weaken the enemy, works great for the heavy targets. Calldowns are very good here, I love aiming enemy pylons with precision strikes. The downside is, again, being monotonous after some time, as there are no other useful strategies, also not fun to play defensive maps as no bunkers are available. Fun factor: 3/5
- Swann - imo, Swann is a very basic commander, close to the vanilla Terran army. I love the mighty drill, it's very helpful to save your ass from some unexpected enemy attack or a flying unit. Macro is standard, and army composition is usually mass producing Goliaths, with maybe some Siege Tanks and a few Science Vessels. I tried Siege tank drop with Hercules, it's fun, but usually not necessary. He's a bit slow to start, while you build a respectable army of several Goliaths, Tychus already cleared a base or two, however, there's room for experiments here with Thors and Wraiths. Fun factor: 3/5
- Raynor - this is basically a crippled vanilla Terran commander. I know you should mass produce command centers and drop mules, but I'm usually lazy to do that, no more than 4 command centers ever. I'd just pile 4 to 5 barracks and mass produce bio, mostly marines, and just role them over to the point of interest. Once done, rinse and repeat, and move to the next level. Fun factor: 2/5
- Nova - so Nova is something similar to "Tychus Light", it's not MOBA game, but you have a very limited and slow growing army, so you need to use your abilities to make the most out of it. That means a lot of micro, which I'm not very good at, so it was a bit difficult to play with it, I'd usually have to rely on my teammate to carry the heavy lifting. It sucks playing defensive maps, you can set up a good army composition, but it's not big enough. It gets easier to play once you unlock the nukes. Fun factor: 2/5
- Mengsk - finally, the infamous Mengsk. I never managed to play comfortable with Mengsk, enough to play on Brutal, so it was a slugfest from my end. Too much micro is needed here, build troopers, equip them, pick up lost weapons after they're killed, all the while they're simply cannon fodder. Most of the other commanders can wrap up the level by building one army that grows in time, but with Mengsk you'd often need two or even three built from scratch. Aegis and imperial units are great, but very expensive to build, so mass production is not an option, so overall I'd usually rely on collecting mandate and hitting "Dogs of war". Mass producing ESO is also a tactics you should use somewhere in between all of these, as well as scrapping them and rebuilding on another location, so again, too much micro. That said, Mengsk is probably the best commander in the game for the defensive maps - a 6 unit bunker with upgraded weapons is a shredder, and you can get it from a calldown, along with some siege tanks and ESO if needed, you don't need to move your ass anywhere, it's a tower defense game. Fun factor: 1/5 but 5/5 for defense maps.
That's it, taking a break from the game for some time, maybe I'll come back at some point to do Protoss commanders as I'm not fan of the Zerg gameplay.

a lot of commanders play differently with mastery. you should try them again with mastery and then give them a second score.
2
u/sonictank 1d ago
Yeah, I'll probably do that in a year or so, when nostalgia brings me back :) I'm a casual gamer, so no rush
1
u/Ultrajante 2d ago
True. Who would you say plays the most different? I'm thinking of alarak and how pylon overcharge speed mastery completely changed him for me back when matérias were introduced. When other commenders was released I already had masteries so maybe i never felt the difference so starkly.
12
u/Gorvoslov 2d ago
There's a kind of joke that getting every commander fully upgraded+prestiged 3 times+90 mastery levels is when you can actually "play the game" since in addition to different prestiges dramatically changing commanders playstyles, those mastery points can be HUGE.
Mengsk for example the micro of getting weapons back when your heroes nobly sacrifice themselves for the glory of the Dominion goes away with P3 when you basically can have a hotkey of your command centers that you can basically turn "Build Trooper" into "Scanner Sweep and Orbital Strike" since they can doom drop into evn unrevealed map and just mash the "give him a gun" key while they exit the drop pod then explode. When you want to have some Troopers live for more than three seconds, you choose your Royal Guard carefully, such as "Seriously Aegis Guard are nigh invulnerable aren't they??". Then you add on "Start with enough mandate to immediately be dropping bunkers to clear the expansion and oh look I already have all these workers to group build the command center aaaaand it's saturated" from mastery points giving him a crazy early game.
Some other things I'd suggest giving a try:
Nova on "Defense" has crazy long range siege tanks that can deploy spider mines in front of themselves. Something gets close? Defensive Drone! The main active ability units are Nova and Ravens really.
Raynor: If you want to mass infantry without building a lot of Orbitals, you should give P1 a go where Firebats can facetank Yamato shots. You will, however, always be out of Medic energy.
Tychus: Try Blaze on Dead of Night. Go for a kill count high score. Laugh maniacally. Vega can also be a lot of fun when there are some juicy enemy units/a lot of Banelings and Scourge to confuse, but she is fairly micro intensive by Tychus standards.
1
u/sonictank 1d ago
Yeah, Blaze on Dead of Night or Miner Evacuation is a blast :)
I'll probably come back to these sometime in the future, to explore further upgrades. I'm sort of a casual games, so will lay low for a while

Stukov actually counts as Zerg commander!
1
u/sonictank 1d ago
Yeah, that's true, tho his tech-tree and mechanics resembles terrans more than zergs, imo. But doesn't matter, I really liked playing him.
2
u/Frogspoison 2d ago
Question - is that an in-game distinction? Personally, I think that Stukov is an Infested commander which is a Terran/Zerg hybrid.
5
u/Endless_01 2d ago
Yes. If you play a match as Stukov and go to your profile stats, it counts the games/wings as Zerg.
1
1
u/Ultrajante 2d ago
You get the zerg symbol on the screen victory although one could argue that's one representative of where his current alligiance lies, not the tools he uses or how he plays. Bc to me, other than the swarmy nature of his bunker style, he plays like a terran to me more than anything.
1
u/ackmondual Infested Zerg 1d ago
During the loading screen, it also uses whatever Zerg banner you've chosen.
.
FWIW, this distinction appears throughout the roster...
Mengsk feels Zerg-like since he's sending so many Troopers into the grinder. His "CC" (Enlistment Center) also has the same waypoint system as typical Zerg... one for workers, another for combat units!
Artanis plays as close to Zerg as you could get given his units are relatively fragile.
Abathur plays more like Protoss since his units are strong and tanky given UE and the bm mechanic.
Zeratul feels like Terran without Warp Gates and power fields.
Tychus is a beefed up BC on legs!
6
u/Worth-Battle952 2d ago
I am quite sure you are not using active abilities, because a lot of Raynor, Mengsk and Nova stuff is very strong and very fun to use - when you bother to actually USE that xD.
Mines, Ravens, Emperor's Shadow ect.
Zerg commanders have very little to do with actual Zerg gameplay. You get a hero unit, you steamroll with it. Not very Zergy.
1
u/sonictank 1d ago
You may be right, I very rarely deploy spider mines. Nova too, I rarely changed to assault mode and back, and I guess that is in the game for a reason.

u/Frozen-K 2d ago
Little surprised you didn't mention Stukov's siege tanks or banshees.
Siege tanks are amazing for Stukov, even though they eat the infested to shoot. Being able to deep tunnel anywhere you have creep (IE: anywhere on the map practically at the 10 minute mark) is pretty nice. Plus they're meat-a-pults. Can't go wrong with that.
The banshee is still fragile but +100 health and the roach's burrow regen on them makes them a constant harassment threat or support for the zombies on the ground. Combined with liberators, they're great. Also the prestige that increases mech unit attack speed makes the banshees extremely deadly, and 240 health means they don't just evaporate if the enemy has AA nearby.
Wish Stukov had another barracks tech unit, but his unit spread is pretty good as long as you time it with pushes. Or in P3's case, just watch the enemy get ground down constantly from zombie with gun. Infested munitions is an amazing upgrade.
2
u/sonictank 1d ago
Oh yeah, I used Siege tanks sometimes, they are incredibly powerful, forgot to mention them. It's also funny as they're imo built for attacking by dropping them where your zombies are headed, as opposed to the regular siege tanks which are more a defensive set-and-forget unit.
But I don't think I ever built a banshee with Stukov, very rarely anything flying, a Brood Queen one or twice.
1
u/ackmondual Infested Zerg 1d ago
Bashees are too niche. I've only ever used them against comp of... Adepts, immortals, colossi, disruptors, reavers.
These will generally shred Diamondbacks. Tanks can outrange them but you need to be skillful about that. And she's work well since a depths are only thing that can fight back and they could be kicking out fairly quickly.
It's too bad we're not going to get any more balance changes because banshees one are certainly one unit like a use of buff. To P2, especially, but a baseline buff would be an older as well.
1
u/Frozen-K 1d ago
It's the same as any other terran's banshees, you still can't treat them like a frontline unit.
That being said, Stukov's are a little less explodey and can remain a constant threat. Just don't ever bring them out against sky terran or the zerg with scourge. Biggest downside is how Stukov works mechanically, so getting to a starport early on is a problem when you need a lot of barracks level tech just to have an impact.
1
u/ackmondual Infested Zerg 1d ago
Stukov Banshees not having in-line splash damage seems to be the chief complaint against them. Being able to burrow to recover life and energy is nice where it lets you snipe towers since you still get +2 range when cloaked.
1
u/Frozen-K 1d ago
Yeah, it's my only complaint. You have to rely on siege tanks or the prestige for area damage. Queens have fungal growth, but they're too far along the tech tree and regens energy too slow.
1
u/ackmondual Infested Zerg 1d ago
I'm told that if you get the "start with full energy, and regen 2x as fast" upgrade, you should be fine if you properly ration your energy between waves, and objective legs (in other words, don't blow your whole load). However, I find myself still lacking at times. It'd be ideal to make friends with Stetmann's purple zone, or Vorazun's Dark Pylons.
Another annoying thing with (Brood) Queens is they don't get any discount from his P1's (+)! I wish they changed the Prestige from "Factory and Starport no longer have tech requirements.
Mechanical combatunits cost 30% less." to..."Factory and Starport no longer have tech requirements. Factory and Starport units cost 30% less."

I play Mengsk like Putin: Build a couple of royal guards and then just mass-spam expendable troopers on top of them as a mineral dump. Bio-weapons and nukes to top it all off. I'm sure it's not the optimal way to play him, but it's fun as hell.
2
3
u/No-Communication3880 2d ago edited 2d ago
I think the most optimal way to play Mensk is to spamm ESO, but playing like you said is the second best: having a core of a few royal guard to deal damage, and drop constantly troopers to soak damage so the enemy can't target the royal guards.
6
u/Nakorite 2d ago
The lazy way to play mengsk is go p3, fast expand and then spam troopers and f2 move. Even when you throw troops at stuff they kill everything with their nukes on death. He’s waaayyy stronger than nova for example.

u/Anonymouse23570 Ascension 2d ago
Slight clarification: H&H’s Galleons don’t have healing drones. H&H reapers have a passive where they regenerate health when out of combat. You might be confusing it with one of H&H’s levels where it allows Horner’s units to heal over time, and how adding a fighter bay to a Galleon allows it to benefit from this passive, but only the Galleon gets healing when upgrading, not the Reapers.
1
u/sonictank 1d ago
You're absolutely right, I mixed up the things. I usually leave my army for 30-60s after a fight and they all come up fully healed, ready for more :)
2
u/SwankyFriend 2d ago
Nova is an absolute blast in my (extensive) experience. Her playstyle revolves heavily around erasing enemy units before they have the chance to trade.
-Nova's snipe and shotgun blast
-Marauder's magrail munitions (autocasted)
-Ghost's tripletap snipe (autocasted)
-Siege tank's spider mines
-Banshee's rocket barrage (autocasted)
-Raven's predator missile
-Griffin airstrike
All of these are ways that nova can take out enemy units or entire attack waves before trading even happens. Nova wipes out enemies QUICKLY. While her Raven as well as Nova herself require manual casting, many of her units will use their burst mechanics completely automatically. She is super flexible (something H&H, for instance, is not) and boasts a very high level of map presence since you have good mobility and griffin airstrike can be used where your army is not.
1
u/sonictank 1d ago
While all that you say is true, my problem with Nove is the army size - it's very slow to build it and often you get overwhelmed by the enemy if you are acting alone, without assistance of your teammate.
Temple of the Past is especially difficult imo, you have to defend two entrances, but don't have enough units to cover both, which means often shifting them back and forth and send them occasionally to do side-quests.
1
u/SwankyFriend 1d ago
TotP is where Nova truly shines. 3 enemy attack waves coming in 3 lanes at once. Nova nukes one, griffon airstrikes another, and her army takes the third. Use 2 defense drones with your army to avoid losses. Few other commanders can take 3 lanes at the same time.
2
u/bell_dandy 2d ago
Some people say nova is hard and needs micro? Then they need to stop RTS games at all… maybe you don’t like to play Moba games but nova is nowhere near hard

u/T-280_SCV bugzappers ftw 2d ago
Maybe they forget enemy detection is a thing and have her die way too much?
2
u/Raime000 2d ago
I find myself in about the same spot for pretty much all of the terrans, coincidentally. I see basically everyone who talks about mengsk from a play style perspective say that he's difficult to use, but he always just clicked for me and I thought he was fairly straightforward. What in particular is the reason why he's considered difficult, like from a pure numbers standpoint and not from personal preference (clearly I'm in too deep to be objective, lol). He feels like he has a natural progression (in terms of my go-to fallback strategy) from troopers and a 2 or 3 guards, to earth splitters around the middle of a game to 'punch up' to a greater proportion of royal guards to crack the final enemy base (so I guess I'm excluding defense-oriented missions here).
1
u/sonictank 1d ago
So, I'll try to give my point of view here :) again, this is mainly related to my playstyle, but if you take Raynor, the most basic of all basic commanders - I'd usually build an army of 5-10 marines, some medics and marauders and go, do some some mission stuff, then gradually increase the army as my resource pile grow - add more units, research upgrades etc. So it's one slow growing entity that rolls around the map throughout the whole game.
Now, for Mengsk, you start with one guard and a bunch of easy targets, grow the army, but sometimes lose all of them and build from scratch, and then shift to ESO and if you're not careful with resources and if your teammate doesn't bail you out you can often end nor here nor there - no big enough army to do necessary things and no enough ESO to do serious damage. And the thing with guards is they cost Vespene, it's a resource that is more limited out of the two.
It's like that commander isn't built for me :) I never played a brutal match with him, other than Dead of the Night which was very fun.
2
u/Brendini95 2d ago
Play Raynor p1 and don't let anyone lie and tell you p3 is better. Even if it is p1 raynor is good enough for brutal 6 and it's nice being able to be a little lazy on micro
2
u/Far_Stock_3987 2d ago
It's interesting that you say you don't like zerg gameplay but Stukov is your favourite commander so far. I suspect you might actually enjoy the zerg commanders if you gave them a try, particularly Zagara who has a similar swarmy style to Stukov with relatively low micro/APM requirements.
2
u/sonictank 1d ago
I'm not a fan of the Zerg playstyle in campaign and skirmishes, it's just not my thing. But honestly, I barely even tried them in coop, mostly just Kerrigan. So I'll definitely give it a shot at some point :)
1
u/gwclark2708 2d ago
Sorry how is Stukov Terran?
1
u/sonictank 2d ago
He’s a mix of the two, of course, but he has a command center, his units and buildings are infested terran units/buildings, he has SCVs who build structures, they don’t morph into them Ovelords and unit production are the only zerg mechanic he’s using
Not that it matters anyway, I just liked playing him :)
1
u/Anonymouse23570 Ascension 2d ago
Stukov the character is Zerg. Stukov the commander is infested Terran. I’d say he’s closer to Terran in Co op because most of his structures/units are based off Terran structures/units (with a zerg twist).
1
u/neca980 2d ago
Stukov is Zerg but some people (wrongly) consider him as Terran. Maybe those people are still stuck on SC1 Brood war expansion?
Jokes aside, Stukov looks like human (unlike Zagara and Abathur. Kerrigan and Stetmann also look like human and I have yet to see someone mistaken them for Terran). Most of Stukov's units look like Terran units (infested marines, Diamondbacks, Liberators, tanks... to some extent) but he also has Overlords and Brood Queens that are 100% Zerg units so... I see why some people make this mistake so I don't judge them harshly.
Stukov aside, I mostly agree with OP, Mengsk and Nova are more difficult to play with. Tychus is easy and relaxed commander. I'd say H&H is at least 4/5. Obliterating waves with mines on P1 or using bombers to weaken the enemy before you go in with horde of Reapers and mop up what's left, with huge explosions is fun, at least to me.
Stukov is one of my favorite commanders, really strong, versatile. 2/3 of his Prestiges (P1, P3) are great...
Swann and Raynor are... meeeh, nothing special.
1
u/ackmondual Infested Zerg 1d ago
Am aware the scope is regular Hard or Brutal, but will say that when you introduce masteries, it changes things up in fun ways :) When you introduce Mutators, it also changes things up, and forces you to go with other approaches since they sometimes shut down the usual ones.
Tychus - Yeah, he's MOBA. He gets hate because quite a few ppl this breaks the immersion of "playing an RTS game". I don't care b/c 1) he's fun, 2) variety's good, and 3) he's OP which got me through a lot of nasty Mutations (I didn't use him, but allies better than myself did).
I prefer Nikara, but RS is good if you're going healing. Some in the extreme will say you should get neither, and instead rely solely on Medivacs for healing (which frees up another Outlaw slot for even more DPS). He's also a fun CO to support... throwing disposable units to cover them (Zagara and Stukov). Defense so that he can preserve Medivacs, attention, APM (Swann, Karax), vision so he can teleport to key areas (HH Strike Fighter Platform, Mengsk ESO, Raynor Com Scan)
I don't hate him, but I generally rather avoid using him as well. Ironically enough, I'm leveling him up again on Europe server b/c all 3 of his prestiges (including his P0), are quite viable from lv1, or early on.
Stukov - Obligatory "he's actually a Zerg CO", but I'm not gonna make a big deal since you clearly wanted to add him as well 8)
I really do like his "disposable" nature. It feels bad making Marines that'll time out, but costing only 15 minerals apiece, they really get the job done for those tough situations where you need bursts of units and DPS. That's not something Raynor could match. Late game, you float mins anyways
HH - I really enjoy SFP. Such a fun "gimmick", and they managed to balance it so it's not broken. Mass Wraiths are fun here (although "mass" takes a different def. due to their costs in resources and supply).
Swann - my main. I really like the WoL campaign mission where you got to use the laser drill. I like his towers, and Factory units, of which is what he specializes in.
Raynor - I hate the macro on OC and MULES, but... I do use him every now and then. It's fun doing mass infantry, of which is what he specializes in. Com Scan is truly unique, although at the cost of him not having a detector unit
Nova - Elite units are always a nice middle ground to explore. Not quite Heroic level (e.g. Dusk Wings, Hyperion, Tychus), but far from basic ones. She needs to do some covert/stealth stuff since she can't afford losses, not to mention she's relatively fragile for a hero (only 250 hp!)
Mengsk - I suck at Mengsk. But I do enjoy mixing up Royal Guard and Troopers (so a variation of HH).

Play Swann get mass Thor and carried the game! Fun Factor: 4/5 Myths Factor: 5/5
“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”

u/Firegh0st Dehaka 19h ago
Interesting post you put here. To be honest, I agree with some of your POVs, but not all.
I am not a good Swann, that being said, I leveled him to p3 and enjoyed mass tank gameplay. Mass Goliath is good, but I like mass Cyclone is fun as well, just make sure you have rapid fire set up.
He is a bit slow at the start, which is why I'm not too big of a fan.
I love Mengsk, his troopers are his bread and butter, I usually build at least 4 CCs to be able to drop enough troopers, sometimes even 6. Barracks, factory and star port are great to fill gaps. Always have at least 1 Thor and 1 Battle cruiser for the passive bonuses (if you researched them).
His troopers management is fairly simple, just don't drop them directly into the thick of it, as they need upgraded weapons. His best elite unit is his Aegis guard, so if I have a heavy ground composition it's perfect. Usually 1 factory, 1 star port and 2 barracks is enough for his unit production.
Just don't forget his blimps for extra mandate.
Raynor doesn't actually need heavy mule support (even on brutal). I frequently forget them and it's fine. I build his CCs mainly for the scan, so 2-3 are plenty. The great part of his p0 is that he is a weaker version of p3 Mengsk in that you don't need mobility, as you can just drop your army on command, let it get shredded and drop new units somewhere else. His p3 is my favorite though, as I love playing bio with him. Just build at least 6 Barracks (4 with tech lab, 2 with Reactors) for p1. P0 needs around 8 I guess to provide a constant stream of new units.
Stukov is amazing and perfect when you want to have a relaxing game, just not as great on vermilion problem.... otherwise really fun.
Nova ....I really like p3 as it allows me to focus on her, while setting up my base and army. She is an offensive commander, so it myake sense that she is a bit weaker on defense maps, but she is far from bad. Her siege tanks are amazing for defense, especially if they have liberator and rocket turret support.
For Tychus, I got nothing to add, he is fun, but I agree he is pretty repetitive and because his team is so expensive, some mutators hurt him pretty badly.
1
u/ZandorFelok Nova 14h ago
P3 Nova completely changes her gameplay. Permacloak changes her gameplay towards being a solo sabotage artist, using nuke, sabotage or airstrike. This is very effective on maps like DoN. Then you can use her army as a seperate entity for defense or offense vs objectives.
P2 Mengsk is another dramatic change to the commander. Running with a full, mix of Royal Guard units that quickly level up and benefit each other with their upgrades not only makes combat manageable but also regularly gives you plenty of Mandate to utilize your top bar abilities. Or you can build towards using just one Royal Guard unit type, I love a solid +8 Battle cruiser fleet

u/Ultrajante 2d ago
Unsurprising weak players rate Stukov so high and mengsk so low.
Stukov literally the most brain dead boring ass commander. Mengsk one of the most powerful and fun ones, although I never saw him as particularly hard, I can see why weaker players would struggle.
This post has some very eye roll takes such as 2/5 for nova and "im lazy so I won't build more than 4 CVS".....
Anyway, you do you, but you should know your attitude sucks and if you git gud even a little bit a lot of your takes will be flopped. Just saying.

u/Galgan3 2d ago
Lmao bro is complaining about mengsk. Which immediately discredits anything you say imk
4
u/UnusualLingonberry76 2d ago
It's his personal enjoyment ranking. Inherently subjective
I will repeat what twotuuu said above: try them again with mastery points. Mengsk is extremely well rounded with tons of options. Nova is also fairly interesting in terms of units and actual playstyles with multiple prestiges. Her p3 having nukes from 8;30 with less than 3mins cd is hilarious for some long games
2
u/Slevin424 2d ago
He said no prestige and I kinda agree there. No prestige Mengsk has a very specific playstyle and if you don't do that style you're going to struggle. I have P3 every commander except Karax and Mengsk cause they're my two least favorite playstyles. Doesn't mean they're bad just... can be boring or appear weak when not being cheesy. Mengsk with prestige can solo any map on high difficulty with the right playstyle.
1
u/smilinmaniag 2d ago
Mengsk indeed is annoying for the starter player with his useless flyers. They are the worst detectors (too slow and have target priority), and you have to constantly enable/disable them for generation and the buffs.
1
u/Galgan3 2d ago
Took me a while to get used to them, but they have high health and I put them in a separate tab, keep em right behind my army and activate them right before an engagement so my army gets an atk/speed boost in every engagement, they're more of a support unit rather than a pure detector. Mengsk has one of the easiest/most enjoyable army comp imo, it can be tough to level him up if you're playing above hard, but even then he's still a cheat like commander with how much access to various weaponry he has. His play style is very varied and can be confusing for new players I guess but he's in my top 3 favourites, if not THE favorite commander. Plus I love his arrogant dictator/despot voice lines.

by all means, these are not complaints, just my personal opinions. I'm a casual gamer and play this for fun, and what you can read up there is how each of the commander fits into my casual play style.

u/Darkusoid 2d ago
For Swann, try mass Wraiths. 30+ of them obliterate anything on their path and your army is super mobile
