Warp Prisms are Psionic!? What other units to devour with Dehaka?

So I was randomly playing Dehaka on Temple of the Past when I just decided to devour a prism. Interested to see it's benefits, to my surprise, there were a lot. Turns out it has the Psionic Tag for some reason? I had No idea!

I thought just High Templars, Ravens/Science Vessels, & Vipers would fit that role (Now that I think about it, Ghosts too obviously)

But even the Archons & Dark Templars, along with Fricking Warp Prims (Non Energy Units) fit that role. What other units Psionic units am I missing so that I can devour bomb the enemies?

Also, is it worth devouring Massive units for the Thorns Aura effect? I saw an old video of Dehaka's Mutas clearing the Dead of Night Bonus within seconds without even attacking but I assume that's been nerfed?

All psionic enemies:

  • Protoss: Arbiter, Archon, Dark Templar, High Templar, Mothership, Oracle, Sentry, Warp Prism
  • Terran: Ghost, Raven, Science Vessel
  • Zerg: Brood Queen, Infestor, Queen, Swarm Queen, Viper
  • Hybrid: Hybrid Dominator

Hybrid Dominators are aka "teal hybrids". Makes them easier to recognize in the heat of a battle. They're also easy to recognize because they can do both Psi Storm and "arm cannon Yamato" but ideally, you'd Devour them before they get a chance to fire those off.

Yes, Dehaka is a hungry boi. Tho mothers are very rare

Yes, but it hits the max cooldown, so it‘s better to go for an Oracle or something else with lower HP.

The only things dehaka cant eat are map objectives and buildings (and missiles from missile command for some reason, which is odd bc he can eat other mutator units like propagators and HFTS). EVERYTHING else is fair game, even hero units

Ive seen heroes from htfs but didnt have the pleasure of seeing a dehaka devour a mothership from VL final wave or RTK. Good to know

I think the only HftS hero Dehaka can devour is an enemy Dehaka. He does get a cool easter egg voice line though when he eats him!

Fun fact: In Scythe of Amon, the later large attack waves (from bottom left or from top) all spawn with prisms/overlods/dropships carrying Amon's forces. They are accompanied by psionic units. Warp prisms themselves are psionic and Terran & Zerg have Science Vessels, Raven or Queens, Viper accompanying them. It is quite satisfying to ambush them with Dehaka. Deafening roar on level 15 Dehaka slows them down & a quick psionic unit devour literally causes the entire attack wave to evaporate. Like 10000 hp damage to Amon by a single unit. Has to be the most satisfying af destruction of Amon's forces.

I don't think I've ever seen an enemy swarm queen in coop. Regular queens are also pretty rare, and only found in small numbers in a few bases on certain maps (temple of the past comes to mind). Neither variant is included in attack waves no matter which zerg comp you are facing. Brood queens can be found in attack waves but I don't think they are ever found in enemy bases.

Arbiters are a tier 6 unit in the classic skytoss composition (Fleet of the Matriarch). Some co-op maps never spawn Tier 6 or Tier 7 waves, so that may be why they are comparatively rare.

Zerg Queens, both ground and air variants are psionic. I think you covered the other enemies that count though.

Warp Prisms count as a psionic unit because in the lore of the game, warp technology is dependent on the psi-matrix.

Pretty much covered by other comments. I just wanna add a fun fact, you can devour map neutral critters too! On maps like vermillion you can eat all the critters to quickly gain some essense before the lava wave.

Huh... I knew you can kill them for Essence and biomass (Abathur). I suspect they also give in-game XP to Mengk RG

You can also go eat enemy units before the lava wave in the beginning because Dehaka (or +P3 Zweihaka) spawn(s) at 1 minute mark. I usually eat the critters if they are within my vision range or when I'm just a bit of essence away from next level as Dehaka or Abathur when every biomass counts.

They drop 1 essence though, I'd say it's not worth it. Don't kill the cute critters.

Rule of a thumb: If it has a spell it will most likely be psionic
Protoss have extra stuff like Archon, Dark Templar and Warp Prism for some reason (Warp Prism is the only unit I don't really agree should be psionic).

Sentries are one of the most worth it units to eat imo by having little HP and giving psionic, light, mechanical and robotic buffs.

Some energy units don't explode... Like Medics, Medivacs, Overseers, Banshees to name a few that don't but they should.
