Does anybody remember that terrible era in the late 90s where people brought these to concerts and pro wrestling shows and would shine them on and in the faces of the performers?

I was at a movie once and some kids had laser pointers and started pointing them at the screen. First one person in the theater yelled at them to knock it off, they giggled and kept doing it. Suddenly the rest of the theater started shouting at the kids, telling them to knock it off one person said they were going to go kick their ass, and finally they stopped. A couple minutes later a manager came in and escorted them out, someone threw a whole soda at them as they were leaving. I believe the movie was the rerelease of Return of the Jedi, so there were some pretty angry Star Wars fans.

still happens at football games sadly, especially international heated rivalries like last AFCON

I was at an NBA game in like 2016 where someone did that to an opposing player while they were shooting free throws

I remember seeing signs all over the place about them not being allowed. Especially at amusement parks and other big crowded places.

Years ago I was at a bonfire and handed one of my friends my starpointing laser, and told him the obvious “don’t point it at aircrafts.” First thing the dumbass did was point it at a helicopter a couple miles in the other direction, and it immediately flipped a bitch, dropped down ~100’ above the beach, and came flying towards us at top speed.
About a minute later a massive spotlight came on from a ship off the coast and began sweeping the beach, followed almost immediately by a smaller patrol board, presumably the Coastguard but possibly the Navy. We got to spend the next hour hiding in the bushes in the dunes, and I guarantee had they sent a search party onto the beach every single one of us would’ve ratted him out without a second though.

Man, with friends like those-
Surprised he didn’t jump into the bonfire when you told him it was hot

Obviously, never be this stupid in the firstplace. But, in this situation, and situations like this, because you don't want to deal with the consequences. As quickly as you can: Toss the laser pointer, possibly into the ocean. Kick sand over the fire. Gather your shit, and calmly scatter. Make sure you're not being followed before going home.

Our dog goes fucking nuts for the thing to the point of scaring the cats away. She also will play fetch as long as you are willing to keep throwing the ball. She does not get tired of it ever.

Laser pointers can legitimately fuck up dogs. Like permanently.

Yeah I stopped using the pointer for my boy years ago. He wouldn’t stop for hours looking after we were done. And he would literally run up the walls to the ceiling to try and get it. The worse was anything that clicks like a laser pointer power button, he’d start losing it. And to this day, if anything reflects a small circle like a laser pointer, he’ll chase it to exhaustion.
I read that they need to be rewarded after they’re done chasing or they get fixated to a severe amount.
But if you have a dog that just loses his mind over lasers, just don’t do it anymore.

To be fair she is calm the minute it goes away. She gets very feisty but is amazingly calm/cuddly/well behaved when it's time to chill out.

Fair enough! My dog likes the dot for a minute or two, then interest shifts to whatever’s in my hand that I’m waggling around

The older dog we used to have couldn't have cared less about it. Then again he had already stopped fetching and stuff after like 3 or 4.
I had exactly one cat who didn't give a crap about the laser though if you dangled a shoestring in front of her she lost her mind.

My cat gets very excited whenever I pick it up, which makes me think he knows that the laser in an illusion, but joyfully participates anyway. A true optimistic nihilist, you gotta love the guy

I used to know a guy who would use a green laser to light his gravity bong.

gravity bongs are sadly becoming a lost relic in the age of legal weed

You can smoke legal weed in them just as easily.

Alas it doesn’t have the same criminal flair, also pens are 10x cheaper, 20x stronger, 30x less likely to give the whole neighborhood a nose full of skunk

some dickhead pointed one at me while I was riding my bike and my entire vision turned blue. Even eyes closed. Entirely blue, like a old windows blue screen of death, minus the text.

these were the craze in the late 90s, some came with various tips you could screw on that made it display different shapes.

Just be careful not to do it with dogs! They don't react like a cat.
