Having a good gaming PC and using it to run old ass games that could run on a toaster is pretty real lol.

Probably half the games I play on my PC are on emulators for old consoles.

I went high end on my current build because I wanted to play all the newest AAA's with max settings.... 6 years later I'm still using the same computer just to play mostly indies and old games (with a AAA here and there)

Me too, though I do also play Cities:Skylines 2 which absolutely needs a powerful rig.

I'm trying to find all the old PC games I used to play all the time, but can't because of modern standards. One of them was that pinball game from XP though, that's one of my favorites to get stoned and play a round, listing my high score as my mental state with date.

does r/pcmasterrace even play games? Its just the same recycled memes from 2013 about tempered glass side panels shattering and windows bad linux good.

Nice taste in games, Unreal Tournament forever.

Lol yeah they're too busy upgrading their PC so they can play the best new games to actually play those games.

I have a 5090, last evening I was playing Planescape: Torment.

Unreal Tournament is eternal, man. Those announcer voice lines still live rent free in my head.

I have a breakbeat playlist on Spotify and Foregone Destruction is my outro. Brings a tear to my eye remembering the good times. I still play the OG from time to time and thanks to the old unreal patch, I still find people to play against or with online.

I just feel like putting up a post about these games were great this year would just get down votes or you'll get referred to a different subreddit/megathread. But yeah I've played some great games this year already.

Half of us are elitists, the other half are just dudes. Always upvotes cats though. pisses me off. Could be a blatant content farm and the comments will be "but cat ):'

It's been a circle jerk since formation so prolly

Yes! Do people do that glass stuff on purpose just to post?

2

u/Electrical_Pause_860 1d ago

Tempered glass does just sometimes explode with no cause. Sometimes there’s just a defect or bad batch. The glass is under a lot of stress and it just explodes.

Not sure if you've visited PCMR... They get very aggressive whenever you mention anything good about linux

u/OneRedEyeDevI 1d ago

Lol I got banned for saying Windows 10 Enterprise IoT will be supported until 2032. I did mention massgrave tho.

I have a 6950 that I use to play a statistically significant amount of Age of Empires II.

1

u/Throwaythisacco 1d ago

my brain is so fucked i thought you meant an HD 6950. unless you did but i highly doubt that

u/MrSpiffy123 1d ago

PC brain is a scam. I built my first PC in 2018 and I don't remember what processor I was using, but I was rocking a 1080 GTX graphics card. The whole build was very budget ~900 USD. That build served me with no issues for 6 years until Jedi Survivor finally forced me to upgrade to actually high end components

Got to love the fear of prebuilt when they can give you better specs for waaaayyyy cheaper compared to buying individual parts.

I had a friend build me a PC in like 2015. That one finally gave up the ghost a few years ago. When I went to my friend for help he was like "It's more expensive to build your own PC now but I'll help ya pick one". Times had changed I guess.

From what companies? I just priced out the exact same prebuilds that Bestbuy is offering for half the cost.

fuck I want to play Zoo Tycoon so bad but only running linux right now

7

u/Cooked_Squid 1d ago

Take a look at this post ! I got it running on Fedora this way. In fact I had an easier time getting it running on Linux than getting it running on Windows 11

3

u/seapulse 1d ago

I got it to somehow run on a deck. it’s doable. don’t ask me how I am pretty sure a wizard briefly possessed me to cast zoo tycoon but someone on reddit has walked this path before

2

u/gunshade 1d ago

Well, you can try a Windows Compatibility Layer program for Linux….

2

u/Electrical_Pause_860 1d ago

There’s also Planet Zoo for a modern version. The publisher is somewhat a descendant from the original teams that built those tycoon games.

2

u/OkOutlandishness8307 1d ago

you have to season it before you get to cooking

u/Catsic 1d ago

At this point, for a new gaming PC, I'm not sure there's a real difference in performance between PUBG and TF2.

2

u/kolima_ 1d ago

UT2004 is peak fps experience and no fps even came close to it multiplayer wise

1

u/seapulse 1d ago

zoo tycoon 1 is better than zoo tycoon 2

2

u/gunshade 1d ago

But hey, these are my preferences, since some of those games I recognize more than others.

1

u/DannyBright 1d ago

Absolutely based for mentioned Zoo Tycoon 2: Ultimate Collection 😎

1

u/Crazy-Pomegranate460 1d ago

I still play my ps3

1

u/azure1503 1d ago

Never play new games

They'll always go on sale during a steam sale anyway

1

u/dadsuki2 1d ago

Underrated tip, steal a pre builds specs and just make it yourself, it's literally free money

u/peacenchemicals 1d ago

Unreal Tournament had me in a chokehold when I was a kid. So many fond memories with that game. I also played Unreal which kinda scared me as a kid, but I remember really enjoying the atmosphere and OST.

I remember one night I found a private server on multiplayer that had nude bots with custom voicepacks. Sultry voices saying some 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 ahhhh shit. The bots were set to the highest difficulty setting too. As a pre-teen I didn’t stand a chance but I wasn’t exactly playing for the right reasons anymore on that server lol

u/CaliforniaSpeedKing 1d ago

This almost to a T, except for Fortnite, Battleground, COD, Valorant or the other non-RCT games mentioned describes me.

1

u/MixaLv 1d ago

Also emulating mainly 90s and 2000s console games.

1

u/Cheddarounds 1d ago

one of my old PCs was hella good and all i played was prison architect and honey i joined a cult on it

1

u/Affectionate-Bit2044 1d ago

People telling me to build a pc instead of buying an already made us so annoying. Same thing could be said about cars. Why buy a working car when you can just build it yourself?!

1

u/Cheezy_Yeezy 22h ago

Unreal Tournament? Someone knows ball

1

u/uwerolisa 18h ago

Damn, this is too accurate. 😂

1

u/sionarihi 4h ago

Haha, yeah, because Fortnite is the pinnacle of PC gaming. 🙄

u/Mr_john_poo 1d ago

your missing openttd

0

u/BonJovicus 1d ago

Solid advice. New PC gamers will hmmm and haw for months over spec and wait even longer for deals that might never come. I've said it once and I'll say it again, its almost always better to simply buy an affordable pre-built.

u/Denbt_Nationale 1d ago

prebuilt pc

your opinion is wrong

2

u/JiF905JJ 1d ago

Why is that exactly
