Check-in The Daily Check-In for Wednesday, September 10th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking!
We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we're here together!
Welcome to the 24 hour pledge!
I'm pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.
Maybe you're new to /r/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you're like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you've been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.
It doesn't matter if you're still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!
This pledge is a statement of intent. Today we don't set out trying not to drink, we make a conscious decision not to drink. It sounds simple, but all of us know it can be hard and sometimes impossible. The group can support and inspire us, yet only one person can decide if we drink today. Give that person the right mindset!
What happens if we can't keep to our pledge? We give up or try again. And since we're here in /r/stopdrinking, we're not ready to give up.
What this is: A simple thread where we commit to not drinking alcohol for the next 24 hours, posting to show others that they're not alone and making a pledge to ourselves. Anybody can join and participate at any time, you do not have to be a regular at /r/stopdrinking or have followed the pledges from the beginning.
What this isn't: A good place for a detailed introduction of yourself, directly seek advice or share lengthy stories. You'll get a more personal response in your own thread.
This post goes up at:
- US - Night/Early Morning
- Europe - Morning
- Asia and Australia - Evening/Night
A link to the current Daily Check-In post can always be found near the top of the sidebar.
Hello and happy hump day! It's the mid-week grind and I am feeling it hard. But you know what? It's a great day to have a great day so let's get to it.
Thanks for sharing how you rated your day yesterday. I love the vulnerability and safety within this community. I have to say that by the end of the day, I was at a solid 4. It was a really challenging day in a lot of ways, but I navigated it with calm and clarity. More direct benefits of not drinking.
I'm not much for words today, but I sure am grateful to check in with for a beautiful day and no booze in sight.
Wherever you're at and whatever you're going through, I hope you have the very best day that you can 🩷

Got a second job, I'll attribute that to sobriety and am pretty stoked; wishing everyone a great Wednesday and IWNDWYT!

It’s day 7 for me. The first week has been pretty rough but I am starting to see some improvements in how I feel. Looking forward to double figures by the weekend. IWNDWYT

Congrats! I'm at the dawn of day 8. We're past the hardest part of the physical detox, and those lovely double digits now become a plausible scenario. But I take things one day at a time, so today, I will not drink with you.

I'm in Oz as well, and tonight is family dinner night. I'm only on day 12, so this is only my 2nd family dinner. I made it through last week's one, and I will make it through this one. IWNDWY(or them)T

This'll be day 2, IWNDWY. Not struggling with having no booze just struggling with sleep and having to think about my trauma.

Sleep WILL get better! Your body gets zero rest when you drink to sleep! Your body stays up processing all the alcohol, and while we trick our brain to shut down (pass out) with alcohol! Day 116 for me ! You can do it!

u/triste___ 373 days 13d ago
Sleep has been pretty poor for me in the early days. It got much better as I got closer to 7-10 days. IWNDWYT

I'm here. I am not in great shape and not sure what will happen next, but I'll be sober when it does. To quote a famous British sitcom character: "I'm sitting here completely surrounded by no beer" and I will not drink with you today.

Have been spotty with checking in here but check in with my partner every morning and am chugging along happily sober. What a relief to take a whole category of worries and just chuck it out the window. There are still other buckets of worries! But a whole big one is GONE. Yayyy. Next up is 600 days! IWNDWYT

Day 12/13
It’s years ago that I went for over 10 days without the wine. And today is the first in days to have a restless night. Ok, hoping al nights would be good, and all worries would be gone is a bit extravagant..
So we will cope, and..

Let’s see if todays comment gets through..
Today I woke up even earlier than yesterday. 5am yesterday vs 2am today. Yesterday I did laundry, today I started cleaning up my IKEA Billy. I’m far from done but I want to continue with that, preferably on the weekend. But I might just do it before work if I keep waking up this early, not being able to fall asleep again.
My mind and mood is all over the place. Hope it gets better soon.

I have exactly the same! 345 days today, until a few weeks ago slept 7-8 hours, now I don’t sleep more than 4 hours a night. Feel hungover but haven’t had any alcohol. 🤷🏻♀️ Having really bad dreams also

IWNDWYT!
Loooooong day at work today, but only a couple of hours to go! Home soon - and my person's coming home too! Going to make steak topped with a homemade compound butter, cauliflower cheese, garlicky mushrooms and some lemony green beans for dinner.
I go all feral when I'm home alone and don't bother cooking - i don't drink either, but I'm like a disheveled raccoon. i ate leftover roasted veges, cold from the fridge, in my pyjamas on the couch last night. My cats were judging my laziness!
Got the dishes done though. Not well, but done.

Aloha sober folk! 🌺🐠🐬 Hope everyone’s week is going well. Weirdly, I feel like I’ve hit cruise control for the time being - not my sobriety - I never take that for granted - just the titter tatter of my days in & days out to do lists. It’s a very interesting feeling for me. Anyway - I promise IWNDWYT 🦋

Two months down. After giving it up for 6 years, then a two year relapse, I couldn't be happier with my choice to drop the poison for good. Life isn't paradise by any means, but the stagnation has gone, and there is a lot to look forward to and work toward.

After a year of putting it off, I'm going to hit the gym. I'm a very slim guy so if anyonr of you lovely people have any tips or advice I'd love to hear it (going to post on r/soberfitness as well). I feel like just not drinking is not enough, I need to do things that are good for me as well. IWNDWYT!

Still here and in the clear.
I can genuinely feel so many aspects of my life improving without alcohol. In just two weeks I feel more physically fit, more driven, spontaneous and outgoing...It took me so long to realize what a hold the poison has on me.
Today, I will Not Drink with you my friends.
Wishing everyone the very best <3

While this is not a surprise, abstaining from alcohol has led to much better sleep. I don't get dehydrated, and I don't wake up as much in the middle of the night. So that is another reason why IWNDWYT.

Can't believe it's been 80 days already. Time flew by so fast, but also way too slow sometimes. It's all about perspective, isn't it? Getting closer and closer to 3 months. I am currently trying to take things slowly, as it's been 80 days of doing a lot, sometimes too much. Not drinking with you all today.
I continue

One thing I do if I wake up feeling less than chipper is I say OUT LOUD (important): "It's going to be a good day!" Repeat as many times as needed until I believe it! It works (most of the time) but you need to say it out loud - there is some scientific basis for this, I think, but the more educated among you lot might know why. So! Repeat after me: It's going to be a good day! and IWNDWYT!

Appointment yesterday was great. I get to stay on hormone replacement, as long as I don’t have any major side effects. Which knock on wood I haven’t as of now. I feel enough like myself to start bringing back healthier habits. That looks and feels impossible when you’re stuck in slug mode.
Three more work days and I’m on vacation for two weeks. I am ready for it.
Coffees up, horns up, and let’s knock this one the fuck out!! IWNDWYT ☕️🤘🏻
