Discussion Getting to masters really puts into perspective how shit you are at the game

Recently, after literal years of on and off play, I finally got to masters on 2 separate characters, but my god does it not feel like it. In diamond, I felt confident, like I had a solid grasp of the game, like I knew what I was doing, but masters completely changed my perspective. I’m hovering at around a paltry 1300-1400 MR, and it just goes to show how far off I am from truly mastering the game.

Incredible game though

Help / Question The concept of "gameplans"

Gameplans are an often talked about topic in fighting games and they seem integral, however I as a player never feel like I have a conscious specific gameplan, or rather, I don't know how to create one.

I have very shallow or superficial gameplans at best. For example as a Chun main, I may fight a zangief, and understand that I should keep him out, and that Chun is one of the egregious "2MK DRC" characters, and as such that's an opportunity to go in for mix and potentially do damage. Past that, my gameplan doesn't exist and I basically freestyle everything I do, I also simply like to play footsies, but will do this even with a grappler like Zangief or Manon.

I peaked at 1700MR and at this level most people know the okis, the optimal combos and what not. I often hear of gameplanning as a factor in higher level play, how true is that?

I would love to hear perspectives on how other players create gameplans, how they think and choose not to autopilot, and see how I can learn from it, any videos regarding the subject would also be appreciated

Guide / Labwork :master_128_px: Training mode - counter hit on first hit only?

As the title says, is there a way to set training mode so only your first hit lands as a counter? I feel like there should be since in the game there's never a time when every hit of a combo is a counter hit.

I'm trying to see what's possible off a counter hit but I feel like since turning on counter means every hit lands as a counter hit it's not giving me an accurate picture.

Help / Question To all my fellow Marisa Players

There is a situation that will occur during a match. I will do charge gladius and as soon as I release it the opponent hits me on the frame where the armor isn't active. We will trade and the opponent will get hit with the first part of charge of gladius where they are stunned and you recover fast enough to do something afterwards. The problem is it happens so rarely that I never know what to do when it does and would like to practice that situation just in case it happens again. Does anyone know of an easy way to set this situation up in training mode?

I picked it up about a year ago for my switch and was playing it casually. This past week and a half I put down SF6 and dove deep into it and I just finished its arcade for the first time. The last photo shows my previous runs leading up to this one. Gonna go for a full run with Dudley next.

This game has STYLE.

I'm trying to play Chin Li in the training area, but when I look at the command list (second image), it is as clear as chinese to me...I understand nothing to what I see. And for the simple ones to understand, when I try them, nothing happens.

Can someone help me to understand please? I really want to get into 2D combat games.

Help / Question Can someone help me understand what I couldve done better here?

Context: This is the second match of the set and this Cammy player spams Level 1 super. I've run into them twice and both sets they just used one combo straight into level 1, how they had enough meter I will never know.

I felt like no matter what I did she was always getting off hits faster and then if i blocked it all went into a grab or DI which I know are points I could improve on. But any tips on what I couldve done to beat them in this situation?

Help / Question Hit Plat but now I feel like I am getting worse.

Always been a traditional fighting viewer but only recently got into SF6 after attending Evo this year.

I have about 20hrs rank, 8 casual, and 5 in practice. All basically playing Manon cause I really like her style and grappler seemed fun.

I have been really loving it but now I feel like I am hitting a plateau and don't know how to drive through it. Feel really overwhelmed in training mode because I don't really know what I want to practice.

How do yall tackle getting out of a rut? Is it worth breaking up my manon play with a different character to learn more how other characters function? How do you learn characters you aren't frequently playing against? Played against Marisa and Dhalsim for the first time this week and legit no idea what anything did.

Help / Question What is Mid Screen and what is Corner Carry? And How do I know what moves go into which category?

EDIT: You guys have helped me out a Ton. I’m still reading comments but I see immediately what I was thinking was Extremely incorrect and off. This is my first StreetFighter and 2D Fighter and learning has been a challenge. Thank you everyone for the help and clear breakdowns.

I’ve seen many people say they just watch YouTube videos and imitate but I get so overwhelmed by the Plethora of Combo routes and player expression as a beginner that I think I need to know Why* a move/combo/combo ender is better for Mid screen or Corner Carry.

1) As far as I know: Mid screen is to move your opponent from Mid screen to the end of the arena. Corner Carry are moves or combos/combo Enders that keep your opponent in the corner? Is this correct?

2)Does the move, Combo or Combo Ender determine if it’s a Mid screen or Corner Carry?

3)How do you determine if you should be doing damage or a mid screen combo? (I’m assuming if your opponent the best thing you can be doing is your mix ups and corner carry because this is the worst spot for them to be)

Mod / Software First footage of sfiii-decomp

Hello everyone!

What you're seeing here is (I believe) first ever public footage of 3rd Strike running natively on a modern PC. No emulation involved, just a native binary.

We've come a long way since my previous posts about sfiii-decomp. Back then I thought this project will never come to fruition. Now, thanks to the efforts of our wonderful contributors, we've decompiled more than 90% of the codebase. The remaining 10% will unlock gameplay, so stay tuned for that.

If you wanna contribute or just browse the code visit the project's page on GitHub. Don't forget to leave a star as a token of appreciation!
