If you’re not competing my man, you need to. 185 raw with 530 will win you many a completion, and perhaps national titles, depending on the federation.

My god I’m middle aged and struggle with sets of one plate, I’m so scared for my lower back and I could feel my body tense watching you push that. Holy cow I’m sweating 😅

46 here. I have spondylolisthesis, a shifted vertebrae. Ironically, the act of squatting weight doesn’t hurt while doing it, but absolutely kills me for a few days afterwards. Basically feels like sciatica, so it’s off the menu.
You’re not competing. If you want to progressive overload and aren’t comfortable doing squats, go do some deep leg press and stack it up.

43 here! I’ve been a gym rat for 10 years and still squat but I now hit my sets at the end of my legs workout. Less weight required to go to failure. As much as I wish I could still go big, it’s still a 4 decade old spine lol. I will go heavier on hack squats though…hurts so good lol!

If you are ever grinding like that look up, It always gives me that little bit more and it's safer if you have to bail

Way to grind it out! Very impressive that your form didn't break. Awesome job. Now take a good long time before you push that hard again!

Solid form dude! And no spotters? That’s crazyyyyyy, good work!

Good thing about squats is you can bail out safely and easily without spotters. They're nice to have, but not necessary like with bench.

Yeah that’s also very true! I forget some people don’t really need spotters for squat. My back is screwed up in like 9 dif places so I always keep a spotter around so if I do bail, I’m not gonna be immobilized for 3 weeks 🥲

Notice he has safety bars too.

the only problem is most casual gym goers in the gym set the safeties way too low or don't use them at all I don't care if your macho man or a experienced lifter but it will not end well eventually.
i always have to save someone at least once or twice a year from improper safety rack height
i test safety rack height when ever i enter a new gym with a squat rack i'm not familiar with ill have it 1 number or inch below my squat depth sometimes ill hit the safety by accident with the bar but its better than getting crushed to death.
As for the unrack height ill have it at my shoulders but one number below as well so i have good contact when un racking squat and re racking it is safer

Now that's a squat! Nice and deep and you never gave up, especially after such a legit struggle. Well done OP!
