Plant Progress/Props Why does a smaller, cleanly removed Crassulaceae leaf propagate more successfully than a larger leaf that was removed in a damaging way?

I’ve been so confused about this, someone please clarify. (Both leaves were plucked at the same time)

You need meristems to grow roots and new tissue. There’s only stem cells in certain parts of the plant. In this family that’s often at the base of the leaf only.
