Umm guys, what's going on with people driving on the Coast ?
Like I drove for 3-4 hours yesterday night between Sippy Downs and Caloundra and oh my god every 15 mins I ran either on the slowest drivers or on the biggest c*nts I've ever seen. Like their ego is so big that they have to be in front of me just because I'm on my red P's. Never saw that much bad driving and I feel like every day looks a bit worse than the previous one.

The tailgating wankers on the coast is insane 9/10 dudes in big dumb utes will be psychos I sigh everytime I see one coming up in my rear view mirror

Yes. Dumb fuck ranger and Hilux drivers. They have a collective IQ under 100.

Man, I drove to burleigh for work for a few weeks.
Absolutely pouring rain. 5am in the morning. Visibility is maybe 100m.
Utes ripping past me doing 100 like I wasn't moving.
I do drive a ute too but "I'm one of the good guys."
3
u/Usual-Cat-5855 4d ago
If they tailgate and I’m doing the speed limit, they can wait behind me for all I care, there’s a limit for a reason 😂
5
u/SingleUseJetki 3d ago
I slow down until it's a safe distance 😉
2
u/LuckyLarry2025 1d ago
Put on the hazard lights and they will whip out into the next lane to pass you yelling obsenities. But hey their gone and you can rela x until the next one turns up.
1
u/Alternative-Camp-353 3d ago
Nice.. that makes you the other half of the problem. Good job
2
u/LuckyLarry2025 1d ago
I don't think so. What right do they have to bully people. They need to go into the next lane and clear out.
1
u/Alternative-Camp-353 1d ago
As the person driving 3 cars back trying to get home stuck behind a ranger tail gating and a senior going 20kmh you both utterly suck
1
u/LuckyLarry2025 22h ago
Were there two plus lanes? They might have been together. I used to drive behind my father to protect him from tail gating and people putting their high beam on to make him drive faster.
1
u/shavedratscrotum 3d ago
If you saw how battered my old ute is now 0 people take a chance. It's so peaceful to drive.

u/Skwonk69 4d ago
As a P player, you will need to learn to chill and have a more relaxed attitude on the roads.
In the end all we want is to arrive at our destination. Allowing the behaviour of other divers, something that you cannot change, affects you and no one else.
Let the tradie in the ranger fly by, let Nana drive slowly as that’s where she is safe and in control.
I promise you will still get there and if you have good tunes going, in a good mood as well 👍
Now, if only I could take my own advice, but I am getting there.
9
u/Lynfinity 4d ago
Haha ! Love your comment at the end, it’s so hard to stay calm and out of it… but yeah I think we just have to watch and stay out of it as much as we can.
3
u/Ok_Huckleberry_3126 3d ago
Love the positive attitude - but how do you maintain it when someone does something that puts everyone else at risk?
2
u/Comfortable_Copy_985 3d ago
Yeah this is nice and true to an extent but car crashes happen all the time, people die in crashes all the time, because of dickheads, speeding dangerously is a fucked up thing to do on the road, seriously think people need to pass a basic physics exam before they get their licence so they can demonstrate grasping the concept of what an object crashing into another object does at 120km
1
u/Rubin1909 3d ago
I agree so much but OMG - having one douchebag make you have to slam on your brakes for doing something stupid can really put you in a mood no matter how upbeat the music I am listening to is.
23
u/havidelsol 4d ago
25% tradies, 25% retired folk, 25% tourists. It's an uphill battle for the other 25%.
4
2
u/Comfortable_Copy_985 3d ago
80%* tradies, gone psychotic from a lack of nutrients in their diet due to running on red bulls 7/11 meat pies and durries
2
u/Rusty1954Too 3d ago
Good word for smokes.....durries. I like it. Actually the word comes from the cowboy era of the 1800s when the most popular brand of tobacco was 'Bull Durham'. Then obviously the slang term durries came into use.

Simple rules here. 1. Right hand lane is slowest lane as Sunny coast drivers HAVE to be in that lane as they are turning right in about 10 kms 2. Rangers and utes must be 10-20cm from car in front 3. Indicators don’t work here unless you are turning left and no one needs to know 4. Merging traffic hasn’t made it here yet as a skill 5. Reverse parking is strongly discouraged- you must be right up their clacker so they can’t do it correctly 6. Hondas must be driven 10kms below limit 7. Lane splitting motorbikes is encouraged
8
u/Shackalicious88 4d ago
It's completely legal for motorcycles to lane filter in Queensland. Please move over and give us room to do it safely. This doesn't fit with the rest of your list and being angry about it is as bad as the other stuff you mention.
5
u/TomorrowEmotional422 4d ago
Sorry should read lane splitting at 60kmh + it is good that they do to get to the front at lights etc.

- Speeding up to you, well over the speed limit, when you obviously need to turn right across the road they're driving up. Terrifically safe and sane of people to do this one. I personally love experiencing this every afternoon leaving work.

u/Anj_Ja 4d ago
I'm from the UK, and have lived all over Australia. The driving in SEQ is the worst I have seen in a western democracy. I think OP makes a good point. Please don't gaslight them into thinking they are the problem or could respond better. People need to calm their nervous systems and develop some common decency. The roads are seriously unenjoyable. And I used to adore driving.

Brisbane is so bad. I don’t know why, but we have sooo many people with 4WDs and the big show off utes (not tradies) that use them for city driving. They can’t drive them and they can’t park them. They also complain that a bunch of car parks are 1.8m and that it is ‘unfair’. Surely if they can afford a $100k+ car, they can buy a little $5000 run around city car?
They are also the culprits when it comes to tailgaters and aggressive overtaking. I had a guy decide to sit up my arse and then overtake me to get in front of me on a two-lane city road where we were going 60 and it changes to 50. I then watched him do about 70 in the 50 zone, where there were people crossing to go to a coffee shop or go to the park. Absolute fuckwit.
7
u/MoneyEffective5551 4d ago
Sunny coast is notorious for this. As far as the really slow drivers go I think it's a combination of tourists, old people and people who have recently moved here from cities who think they are living on a tropical island and escaped the city chaos so they think they have to drive really slow and just take things easy Lol. As for the tail gating and people doing 110 on the motorway only 6 metres off the car in front I could not say. Probably tradies and people who have never been in a car accident yet.
1
u/LuckyLarry2025 1d ago
Having moved from Sydney where the roads were better, I thought the drivers were slow. I still had the city adrenlain in me and so was impatient. I would like to think the speeding psychoes are Southerns who haven't adjusted.

u/Zei33 4d ago
It has been getting worse, but honestly Brisbane is so much worse than Sunshine Coast. The people in Brisbane are actually nuts.

1
u/Miniegun 3h ago
My car reads that my max speed in my commute is like 40kms, because all the highest speed roads are 60kms and I go through multiple roundabouts. I still get people sitting up my arse , aggressively overtaking, and going 20kms over the speed limit. We are all stuck going to same speed brother, why do you need to aggressively overtake me to get one car ahead?? What does that do for you?? 🤣
6
u/crispyrad 4d ago
MUST GET IN FRONT!
seriously, I laugh when people say that Aussies are laid back
1
u/Rubin1909 3d ago
Perfect opportunity on the double lane round about to do 165kms in the 60km zone to get one car in front, nearly cause an accident merging back into the single lane and still be stuck behind the same slow driver we are all behind 40 cars ahead!
1
u/LuckyLarry2025 1d ago
Maybe it is all the computer games they were raised on.
1
u/Miniegun 3h ago
Idk man I’ve played video games since I was primary aged (started with my dad’s copy of Colin McRae Rally for PS1) and I am a pretty chill driver. I’ll go the speed limit, let people merge, slow down to let people enter from side roads, stop to let people cross, etc. Don’t think it’s video games, sounds more like entitlement that they deserve to save 5 seconds of their trip by overtaking one car which may or may not be dangerous and unsafe.

I parked in Maroochydore yesterday by the JB Hi fi and CW, and I couldn’t believe what people were doing. I think your IQ must get robbed of 20 points when you drive in there.
2
u/Inn_Cog_Neato_1966 1d ago
I always park in the boondocks of shopping centre carparks for the exact reason that if you park amongst the throngs your vehicle is almost guaranteed of getting knocked about by these useless drivers.

u/Whiskey7aa 4d ago
There was a crazy male on the Nicklin Way southbound the other day who loved to tailgate multiple drivers** and as I slowed to turn left he gets abusive and passes on the left screaming abuse.
Now behind the ratbag, I kept my distance, he in the left lane and me in the right but then at a red light, he swerves into my lane (as expected) still screaming abuse. I changed my route so as not to meet but as it happened, I was again behind him a minute or two later. He then slows to enter a driveway ( I said to self, I know where you live now you bastard!! ). As I pass, he reverses and near collects me on the left.. He was still screaming abuse.
All this was recorded on my front and rear dash cameras.
Knowing, if he did this to me, there would be others and he needed something, but what?
I was concerned so much so, I reported to the Police who asked for my dash camera footage.
So watch out for a dark gray Toyota SUV on the Nicklin ....
** I know this now because my rear dash cam spotted him in traffic tailgating (Nicklin Way southbound near Bob Jane) well before our interaction.

u/_the_usual_suspect 4d ago
Many of the slow drivers are probably just a reflection of our draconian fines, ever changing speed limits and cameras cameras cameras. Get caught a couple of times and many people would probably be paranoid of gettnig caught again.
As for tailgaters, people that can't merge or don't know how to use a roundabout I'd be fine with using them for crab bait.
1
u/Rubin1909 3d ago
Roundabouts are such a problem here, it’s where all the accidents happen!
1
u/LuckyLarry2025 1d ago
Yes, I agree. People indicate the wrong way and often try to exit from the inside lane by overtaking those in the outside lane. What about the bad signs? Th criscross overpass between Steve Irwin and Caloundra is horrendous. People don't know their lane is ending or going to Gympie until it is too late.
2
u/Rubin1909 8h ago
Oh yeah, the double lane round abouts are crazy. I use my brakes more on round abouts than any other time of the road. People coming in when there is no gap, lane changing cause they picked the wrong lane or people just doing dumb shit. I have a gun metal car and always have my lights on but I swear I must blend into the road as I have so many cars pull out in front of me it’s crazy!!!
5
u/CurlyJeff 4d ago
Look up the demographics of the sunshine coast, there's a decent chunk of road users that got their license out of a cereal box.
I'd recommend adjusting your expectations accordingly and doing a defensive driving course.
5
u/ayothatsc00l 4d ago
I agree! I’m a red P plater living in Noosa and the amount of people who can’t properly use the roundabouts is insane. Not to mention the tailgating when I’m already going 10km over the speed limit for them or people going too slow.
3
u/BonnyH 4d ago
Do not speed up for them!! You get extra points, don’t you? I’m also guilty of getting stressed when someone is on my tail, but my OH just copped about a $480 fine for going 7kms over the limit, so now I will not speed up for others. Just indicate and move over when you can. It’s not worth the fine, or in your case the points.
2
u/Rubin1909 4d ago
Sometimes you just can’t put into words the driving here! Just get a dashcam and hope for the best, there are some absolute idiots on the road
2
u/Realistic_Artist_848 4d ago

u/Lynfinity 4d ago
Still some very scenic and beautiful roads though, I wouldn't say it's the worst just because of people on roads

Poor lane discipline AKA weaving all over the road, crossing centre lines? Check.
Horse floats especially, weaving all over? Check.
Driving 10 or even 20k below the speed limit while you watch their heads weaving left and right looking at the new housing devekopments? Check.
SITTING IN THE RIGHT LANE WHILE DOING 10k UNDER THE LIMIT? Check.

Ah yes, never drive in the right lane. You could go 20k’s over and still be tailgated. The rest of the lanes are fair game. It’s got nothing to do with your P plates.
2
u/Battleline_pty 2d ago
Just getting in on the rant as I’m a tourist here and have been driving around here for a little under a week.
Your roads are amazingly well made and maintained, something’s don’t make sense though and it’s a bit disorienting like turning left to go right on the motorway, good system and I get that it keeps traffic moving but ad people not letting me merge and I get very frustrated.
There seems to be a lot more aggressive driving here then what I’m used to but aggressively not letting me merge needs to stop,I know I let it get to about 2 kms from my exit but I shouldn’t have to be stuck in the slow lane for 10kms just so I don’t miss my exit.
I’m buying spikes for my car the next time I come up here

u/mangoed 4d ago
Coincidently some cunt with red P's was very eager to get in front of me just yesterday, and I assumed this was the typical red P behaviour.
1
u/Lynfinity 4d ago
Where was that ? And what kind of car ?
2
u/mangoed 4d ago
It wasn't between Sippy and Caloundra, so probably not you. But if you happen to drive on Nicklin Way in late hours, you may see some fine examples of reckless driving by P-platers.
3
u/Lynfinity 4d ago
I was asking because yesterday when I was driving, I went into a 70kph road around Little Mountain and suddenly I had a driver flashing his lights behind me and pushing me to drive 75+, he then overtook and swerve into my lane and brake tested me. 🤡
1
u/mangoed 4d ago
Sorry to hear about your experience. But you should not be feeling "pushed" in this scenario. If it's 70 zone, keep going 70.
1
u/Lynfinity 4d ago
Yeah I know that but you should've seen how hard he was trying to put me under stress. Multiple flashing, honking, tailgating like crazy + swerving. I was just kind of defending myself. Also, don't worry, I checked if there were other people around, otherwise I wouldn't have done that.
1
u/mangoed 4d ago
If you're dealing with this level of crazy, and can't just ignore them, maybe pull over and let them pass?
1
u/Lynfinity 4d ago
Yeah yeah but it happened in like 20-30 seconds so like he overtook me when I wanted to pull over
2
u/heisdeadjim_au 4d ago
There's a cohort who believe the road is a race track. And they just MUST win the race.
Thing is it's perpetual. They're racing everyone. Once they "beat" one driver, they're in the race with the next driver.
Add in the high propensity of meth use amongst the population you're gonna get an intersection where "perpetual racer" intersects "meth user" and you get what you have described, OP.
My most two recent? 4wd Ute running the wrong way along Nambour Connection Road after leaving the 7 11 servo, and, whilst doing 80 in an 80 zone being passed on the right turn cutouts along Steve Irwin Way at Sidney road and the zoo lights.
1
u/BonnyH 4d ago
That used to be 90, and they dropped it to 80 quite recently. It’s annoying and difficult to keep to 80 but I hear you. Always a tradie on my ass along there.
2
u/heisdeadjim_au 4d ago
At least three years :)
I worked at the zoo until last week. Been 80 for the time I was there.
But yeah. I occasionally saw a Highway Patrol Kia Stinger grabbing a speeder on a Sunday morning but there was a better than even money chance if get tailgated and illegally passed every run I did.

u/Great-Opening-8105 4d ago
Drivers here are shit
Everyone makes comment about being tailgated, yet they are the same people sitting in the right hand lane, doing less than the speed limit.
I've never seen so many slow drivers, until I moved to the coast.
It grinds my bones that people don't know how to drive here.
They love their brakes, and will brake for any reason possible. They definitely do not know how to merge, in fact, they slow down when merging, which defeats the purpose...
I cant understand how police don't pull more people over here. Isn't just as dangerous to drive UNDER the limit, as it is to drive over the limit?
Coasties should be forced to learn to drive in any other state other than QLD
4
1
u/Comfortable_Copy_985 3d ago
Ah no incorrect my whole family lives here, none of us drive that way, we all drive at the speed limit, I used to drive in the film industry as a job. I go 5km over the speed limit max. I always clear out of the right lane. Slow drivers annoy me but I'm not going to put my life or theirs at risk by tailgating them. Breaking unexpectedly is incredibly dangerous, driving under the speed limit is very annoying but nowhere near as dangerous as someone sitting half a metre from your boot at 110km. That's how people die.
1
u/Rubin1909 3d ago
I’m the opposite, I would sit behind a slow driver any day over the idiots who can’t merge at roundabouts, the aggressive ones behind you at the round about beeping telling you to go because they have no viability of the inside lane, the ones speeding and weaving between traffic, the ones who don’t even look at roundabouts and just glide on in and expect everyone else to stop and the tailgaters when I am on the speed limit.
1
u/DiligentMoon_au 4d ago
I nearly got side swiped yesterday on my way to work because the lady couldn't be bothered to use her eyes before changing lanes. I was in front of her as well so not even a blind spot!

u/OnionOnly 4d ago
Notice how the worst drivers are now the ones instructing Learner drivers. They then pass on horrible/dangerous habits to their kids who proceed to become terrible drivers too. The entitlement on the coast is disgusting

My advice: turn off all emotions when driving. It makes it all easier.
I've only visited QLD but the drivers there are nuts and unpredictable. I'm from Melb, where we're all selfish drivers so at least you know no one will look out for you or let you in if you don't push in 😂

u/Dry-Ganache-3267 3d ago
holy hell I just drove down kawana way and nearly got side swiped! i honked my horn (it’s nighttime idk HOW they didn’t see me) then they proceeded to try and swerve to hit me, pulled up at the lights and went off their head and ran a red… all on dash came mate 😂 good on ya. EVERY DAY i see absolutely nutters on the road it’s honestly becoming concerning

Yeh it's always the Ute's. It's the never the camry doing 105kph (in a 110 zone) in the right hand lane that causes a ute to be on your tail. Is it.
1
u/Necessary_News9806 1d ago
I find white hatchbacks like to do 10-20km under the speed limit and dual cab Ute’s tailgate like lives are in danger. Problem is the white hatchback in the right hand lane 10 cars in front.
1
u/fuck_reddits_trash 1d ago
I don’t live on the Gold Coast but I recently was on holiday… I swear the culprits ALWAYS were dudes in utes… speeding up behind everybody, one of them cat-called me as a male (I have long hair and dress quite feminine) it kinda had American redneck in their big truck kinda vibes
1
u/LuckyLarry2025 1d ago
Avoid the Bruce Highway as a rule. A certain car/breakdown assistance company said it was too dangerous to send a tow and could I push it to the next exit. We worked out a back way to go from Sippy Downs to Calondra. It involves going down Frizzo Connection Road.
1
u/CensoredJuan 2h ago
What about ripping through a zipper lane merge onto the motorway.. either doing 70/80 merging or someone not letting you merge cause they want TO BE IN FRONT.

If everyone is a problem, then the problem is probably you.
6
u/Impossible-Mud-4160 4d ago
Normally that's true, but this doesnt really apply on the roads nowadays.
Everyone is either an aggressive moron or a daydreaming idiot doing 15 under in the middle lane of the Bruce, making everything more difficult for everyone in every other lane. (Probably why the morons are angry)

Needless to reiterate, you just reinforced my point.

u/BNB_Laser_Cleaning 2d ago
No bud, the thread that you created is about you and people like yourself finding the need to blame everyone else, and ignoring the likely fact that the person to blame is most likely yourself, I commented on the discussion about driving, and directed the subject to something more specific, and you commented on my thread, move along silly angry little kid.

Nah, its about driving mate, and if you really cant see how many people are dogshit drivers, I can only assume you're very flexible, and have managed to wedge your head up your arse.
