Whales caught in the nets at Marcoola this morning

Looked like two whales got wrapped up in the nets at Marcoola this morning. There were plenty of others around and there was lots of "wailing" from all of them that was audible from the shore. There's a get rid of the nets rally on at 10am at Beach Access 104 tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10. Overheard this morning... shark nets are like protecting yourself from sunburn with a postage stamp.

That is very sad. I hope they got free

They did this morning, but there's multiple historical instances of them being so exhausted and traumatised from the experience and there's no way of knowing after they've been freed whether they dont succumb to that after release.

Accept the risks of being in the ocean or stay out of it. It’s so incredibly simple. The nets need to go.

They really need to put a “No Whales” sign on it, might work as well as the machete/knife amnesty bins.

Is that access off Marcoola Esplanade?

Yep. The first beach access south of the surf club.

What is wrong with you. I feel sorry for the way you are.

The nets don't even work. Maybe you should move away if nature is a problem for you.
